Your reaction to this is fantastic. Without drama you explain what happened in a very realistic manner. I was SHOCKED at your visible injuries at the end. You explained the crash in such a calm manner that I did not think it sounded too bad, but then you showed the resulting injuries, and WOW Jenna, you got BANGED UP! You are so cool about this and I admire that. By the way, I used to work on ambulance crews and have seen LOTS of injuries and deaths, and I am very grateful to hear that you are alive. Seatbelts saved your lives no doubt. You are going to heal up and feel so much better in another week. Hang in there.

around 17 i stopped wearing my seat belt but i got into a relationship and we both agreed to wear our seatbelts for the safety of our relationship. its a good thing because even after that relationship crashed and burned, i was still wearing my seatbelt when my car flipped 2 and a half times doing 75 miles per hour and landing upside down. the only injury i sustained were small cuts on my knees and elbows from crawling over glass to get out of the driver side window. wearing a seatbelt is life saving, be safe out there people.

Agreed! I was in an accident where my car flipped as well and only had a few small cuts from either impact or crawling out my window. Luckily I had a jacket in the back seat I laid over the glass to protect myself, but it was scary and I'm always grateful I had my seatbelt on.
@frauleinzuckerguss19065 жыл бұрын
I haven't been in a serious car accident like this but I once went to like training for that kind of situation and a helpful tip I remembered from that was: When your car is laying upside down, try to move your legs up and push yourself into your seat so seat belt is a bit loose, then steady yourself with one hand on the car roof and then dislodge the seat belt so you can open the car door and crawl out without falling down.
@gotem68915 жыл бұрын

I always wore my seatbelt. I was in a rollover crash, I only had massive whiplash, gas soaked clothes cause it ran down my leg as I was upside down and my best friend flew out, was care flighted and died from traumatic brain injury. I couldn't lift my own head for days. A few years later I was driving from Vegas to Reno and about 1 hr 45 min from Reno, at around 3 am middle of the desert, pitch black, going 75 mph, I see a black cow laying down, foot stuck in a cattle guard, giving birth. By the time I saw it I was close because it was laying down and black. Couldn't get out of the way, and ran into it. My friend and I survived, with bruises and whiplash. The highway patrol said they'd never seen a car or people come out of a cow car crash as good as we did. He said it helped the cow was laying down, and that's what saved us from the engine ending up in my lap. My insurance had to pay for the cow AND the calf. Nevada has "open range", so no fences and it's our fault if we hit one, no matter what. Seat belts literally saved my life twice. I shouldn't be here, but I am. 3rd quick story. Friends driving from Reno to Vegas weren't wearing seatbelts, except the driver. They got in a roll over accident and the only one who died was the girl in the seatbelt. Turns out the 3 other bodies flying around and out of the vehicle hit her head and that caused her brain injury and what killed her. So please also make your passengers wear seatbelts, even if only to save yourself!

If you have a constant pain, your bone is probably broken, if only when you put pressure on it, it's probably just sore or sprained, but definitely go to the doctor. If it's numb, that's never good. Yesterday I was going to try and check the temperature of my Starbucks and I thought oh hey my bottom lip is numb so if it's too hot I won't hurt myself if it burns slightly. I ended up just using my top lip instead bc I couldn't feel if my lip was making total contact with the lid opening. I didn't even realize until later that night when I was explaining my struggle to my friend that I wouldn't have been able to tell the temperature even if my lip was properly positioned bc it would be numb to temperature too lol

As someone who works in the hospital, I will vouch for the Emergency Department nurses that work there that having bruising from removing an IV does not mean they didn't know what they were doing. They insert large-bore IV catheters to get fluids in, and the area in the inside of the elbow (Antecubital space) is the easiest place to get them and the veins there are pretty straight. Bleeding into the interstitial space like that depends on a lot of things, like platelet count, iron levels, vitamin levels, etc.- which with Jenna being vegan might make it easier for her to bleed or delay her clotting time. Shoutout to all the other people working in hospitals across the country!! 🙌🏼

And the protocol for CT scans with contrast is at least a 18-20G IV in the AC which is why they did it there instead the hand.

yes, injecting in the hand for a CT scan is not preferable. Higher chance of infiltration. They probably did a abd/pel scan so with how small she is a 20g should have been fine
@Maisali178 жыл бұрын
Kara B yes!!! I'm a nurse and I worked in the ER for a while. I'm great at starting IVs and sometimes my patients bruise. It's okay, it will go away. Especially since she was going to receive contrast they needed a large bore catheter. One thing though is that I like to draw blood when I start an IV so the patient only has to be stuck once. Especially if they are terrified of needles. :)
@taylorgray10608 жыл бұрын
Bruising from an IV is normal for me. I had one nurse who went straight through the vein and my whole arm was bruised and swollen. She was poking where she inserted the IV and was asking if it hurt! I like getting IVs in my hand now so I can actually move around comfortably if needed.

I just recently got into a car accident in August. STILL dealing with the pain and repercussions. Do NOT just let things go, even if you think they are minor. My accident was seemingly minor, and now I can barely walk from pain. Like I said, make sure you're taken care of, you only get one body, even if you are still young.

Maria Andreeva I couldn't agree more. It's teaches a lesson though. I always make sure to look on the other side of the road at an intersection to make sure no one is turning in front of me when they aren't supposed to. Yeah, I'm about 2 1/2 years late but had to comment that pee'ing you pants is a TOTAL natural reaction and it happened to me in a car accident. You body need to work on keeping everything together..pee in the bladder is not helpful so out it goes! I did have the "new guy" comment after an almost head on accident where I hit the windshield (almost 20 years ago, but this comment STUCK!!) "Oh wow, we have a WET one over here.." And the other parametric said quietly "shut the F*ck up a$$hole" so I felt better...I even remember coming to after loosing conscientiousness and realizing I was peeing myself and trying to stop, but then thinking "If I'm about to die, I'll finish peeing anyway, lol"

The bruising is from the IV, but it isn't because the nurses weren't good with it. A lot of things can cause bruising after a venipuncture (how hydrated you are/how watered down your blood is, causing coagulation to slow down, for example). Also, pressure has to be applied for 2-3 minutes after the needle is taken out, which a lot of medical professionnals don't take the time to do, since they are treating more serious injuries. The nurses shouldn't be blamed for the bruising on your arm, however I do understand it is dissapointing and you feel like it is an injury that could have been avoided. That being said, I love the both of you so much and wish you a fast and total recovery. Take it slow, one day at a time. 💕

Rose Gagnon As a ICU nurse I'm so glad you said this. ❤
@SarahNZL8 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the nurses don't give quite enough care, but often they're trying but nothing is working in their favour! I've got shitty arm veins (can't see through the skin and there's only one that they can feel to try go for) and I always apologise profusely to the nurses getting my blood because they generally have to go find the most experienced nurse there to have a shot at it. And then mine bruise a ton too.
@taylormcclure14308 жыл бұрын
Rose Gagnon I was thinking the same thing! Plus she's pretty fair skinned, so that could be a factor! I know if you look at me the wrong way, I bruise, so whenever I get IVs, (which is far more often than I wish, I'm super accident prone) I end up with bruising like that!
@rheauze8 жыл бұрын
Sarah Piper I have the same problem, and I used to think the nurses sucked before I started studying to become a biomedical lab technologist. We perform venipunctures a lot, and sometimes bruising is inevitable. It is something we need to accept, because this little trauma is worth it in the end. Medical staff aren't trying to hurt you, they are helping you as good as they can.
@sierrabird38178 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this information. I found it helpful since I'm always bruising. If the nurse takes pressure off and then I quickly applied pressure would that stop or lessen bruising?

Hey guys! I'm a medicine student in Brazil (sorry for my english) and I wanted to clarify some things. I've learned that after a trauma, when you're helping someone who's hurt, you shouldn't give that person any liquids or food, even if she begs for it. That happens because if that person is really really hurt and maybe needs to go to surgery or through other procedures later, the water or food in her stomach could interfere. I know that the person who offered water to Jenna was just trying to be nice and she probably didn't know this, but it is just something nice for you to remember when you need to do first aid on someone. Also, I'm glad you're okay Jenna! xx
@marianarocha60368 жыл бұрын
Also, it is completely normal to pee yourself after something like that. We have two types of nervous system, the sympathic one and the parassympathic. The sympathic one is related to reactions that includes fighiting or running, when you are scared or full of adrenalin. It makes you heart beat faster, makes you see better, makes your muscles able to use more energy, and it also makes your sfincters close, so you don't pee or poop on stressfull situations. But right after the crash ends, just a few moments after the main adrenaline, your sympathic system starts going down and your parassympathic starts coming back. Your parassympathic system makes you more relaxed and it opens your sfincter, so you can kinda lose control over the control of your "peeing" just because it can come back so strong. 😬

Youre right. I never was in an accident but i had to have medical tests done. I ate and drank and when they ran tests, i literally felt my stomach was a on fire. That was the part that they were screening for. I was on fire and i was crying because the pain hurt so bad for me.

Maybe it's different here but in the U.K. they just changed how long they starve and don't let you drink water for before surgery. Water is only like an hour before (other drinks are longer). So by the time anyone from an accident gets to surgery, it would be fine. And honestly it would be fine with less time than that. In the vets it's like half an hour before... Food is different though. It depends on the surgery but 6 hours is what we go by.

For the bruising under from the IV, I just wanted to comment and say that the bruising is caused after removing the IV, the vein is still an "open wound" so the blood leaks from the vein, pooling under the skin. When they remove the IV and place that gauze over it, hold pressure on the site for 5 to 15 minutes and the bruising should decrease. Most nurses/medics are taught to hold pressure in school but some just don't have time to hold the IV site for that long. Just a tip for anyone out there
@mikiiraii61718 жыл бұрын
Also, extremely sorry to hear about your accident and I'm glad you're okay!
@sexyscientist8 жыл бұрын
They usually ask the patient to hold the gauze. That works fine too. Also, that bruise could also be a result of a counter puncture.
@mikiiraii61718 жыл бұрын
YouShotMyRobot I'm sure they do, or should, but even medical tape likely isn't enough pressure to close off the puncture site.

YouShotMyRobot It's called sticking in my hospital. And in normal cases, sticking is not applied over iv punctures. Manually applying pressure is a better option.

I'm an x-ray and CT tech. you probably do have a broken rib. They probably only did a chest x-ray instead of dedicated rib x-rays and usually you can't see rib fractures on a chest x-ray. They probably did an abdomen/pelvis CT/CAT scan. Geez, that bruising is crazy!!! Go see an ortho for your knee. Take it easy and get follow up appointments please!!! Get better soon!
@kassiaugustine87458 жыл бұрын
Niki Warren I'm an X-ray tech too and the ER in my area sucks! They will send people home when they clearly are seriously ill. I agree they prob should've done a rib series With the pa chest and prob should've done a knee Xray.

Well, most ER's, especially in cities, are designed to make sure you're not dying and then pass you on to other health services.

@SchwallySells8 жыл бұрын
Clickbait is like when someone uses an overly dramatic title that creates a (false) sense of concern when really everything turned out fine...basically using a title to get more views versus authentically communicating with the people who watch your videos/care about you.
@oliviab35668 жыл бұрын
The Legendary Golden Flash click bait is when the thumbnail or title of a video is extremely exaggerated to get views. Jenna could have titled this "we almost died" with pictures of their injuries or even picture of the car accident rather than saying she was okay and she may have gotten more views.
@SchwallySells8 жыл бұрын
Not to say I'm not concerned because I was worried for Jenna and super glad they didn't sustain any super serious injuries. She talked about the incident with appropriate seriousness but no false or inauthentic drama, which is why she is so relatable and never seems fake to her following.
@rickki8 жыл бұрын
+The Legendary Golden Flash she chose not to title it something like "WE ALMOST DIED!!" just to get views. She didn't want to manipulate us with this situation.

I was in a real bad accident about 4.5 years ago. I broke 11 bones and injured 4 internal organs. I was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester NY, put into a medical induced coma for 5 weeks and I ended up spending about 2 years in a wheelchair. I just had my 13th surgery in September, and recently found out that I need a hip replacement soon. needless to say. I'm lucky to be alive and I'm lucky that I am able to walk again (I had to re learn, but still lucky). Anywhoo, I'm really glad that the two of you are doing ok. really hope that nothing is wrong with your knee other than the bruising from the trauma. but I hope you get checked out soon because blood clots are no joke!!! this is a really long vomment, but I hope you read it. I hope you feel better soon!

I can assure you she wasn't fishing for compliments. First of all she's not the type. Second I'm a little skinnier than her and I feel chubby. If you "bruise" from an IV it doesn't necessarily mean it was done wrong. So long as the site of the IV was not swelling and you were not in pain then you did not have a bad IV. I've had plenty of IV's go bad and trust me, you'd feel it. Your vein can be blown during the final saline flush or when the IV is being removed. A bruised look is normal. You'll notice if you touch this "bruise" there is no pain. Pain only comes with it if the vein was blown, not if you had a good IV there
@temperance76374 жыл бұрын
true, i donate blood,, but i have terrible veins (you can't really see them at all, anywhere on my body) and i always have a bruise afterwards - and the people who insert the needles do that all day, every day, some of them for over twenty years now. they aren't painful tho and fade like any other small bruise

I remember watching this and being terrified because car accidents are awful and gives me so much anxiety thinking of this. I was so thankful you both were okay, only 4 days later my dad got off of work at 6am and was really tired, he came around a corner and the sun caught his eyes and blinded him, long story short he over corrected and his truck flipped 4 times, he walked away with a broken neck and a concussion, obviously not perfect, but he was alive and is currently still healing. God does wonderful things for people, so thankful
