It’s great to hear that they’re bringing on the original team to help flesh out certain parts of the game and add quality of life improvements to give us the definitive version of The Thing. I wish more remasters would get this treatment. A game I’d LOVE to see get this same treatment is Jurassic Park Trespasser. Sadly, haven’t played it, but I’ve been looking into the thing and it looks really interesting. With some fine tuning you’d have something truly great. Plus, if they got the advanced dinosaur ai that was supposed to be there we’d be in for a treat. On the off chance this happens I’d want some crazy person to come along and make it VR (some guy is remaking Trespasser in VR using Unity. Sadly, he doesn’t really know how to code, and is mostly using little bits that work. By his own admission he’s more of an artist).

System Shock is the only full on remake that Nightdive have done - and it is very VERY good. Their remaster jobs are always top quality work. At the very least, the game will look great and run well But they do have a history of going above and beyond for their remasters. Quake, Quake 2 and Doom 64 all got new levels to play. I’ll be interested in seeing how it turns out, but I still think a full remake would be better. One of the things that bugged me about the original game was the constant jumps in location. I feel like a Thing game would be much spookier if it was set in one location (like Resident Evil, and the original movie). The squad mechanic was nice with the Trust/Fear system, but it would have worked much better if you actually kept the same squad throughout the majority of the game. There’s no real need to trust any of the characters when there’s a revolving door of characters coming and going. I hope this remaster sparks interest in a full redo or sequel.

I had just played the original The Thing for ps2 and finished it yesterday in preparation for this. Its a good game still but it has definitely aged, especially its control mechanics. If i had to fix certain issues it would be this: The Game mechanics, specifically the aiming system needs to be fixed as it seems to slow and the aim needs to better co-ordinate with the movement. The amount of Human enemies especially towards the last few levels needs to be somewhat reduced. Health Packs need to be more available or at the very least, every time you start a new chapter the health needs to restart back to full health. The fact they are fixing the weapon and Ai System especially they are actually fixing that anyone can turn into the thing at any time rather than being scripted is a huge bonus. Hope it turns out well :D

I liked The Thing game, but only because the movie is probably my favorite movie of all time. If I wasn't already a Thing mega nerd the game definitely wouldn't have won me over. There were too many issues with the way it played for it to be considered anything but incredibly flawed. For the re-release to be truly worthwhile they would have to rework not only the controls and shooting mechanics but the infected NPCs as well. The Thing's main selling point (aside from the body horror and isolation) is the paranoia of not knowing who is infected and if/when they will turn on you. Scripting it kills the tension entirely to the point that the mechanic may as well not be there at all. It would be great if they did do a complete rework of the infection mechanics but that's a big ask, so I won't be holding my breath.

I’m excited for this because I’m a huge fan of the film and was so excited when I bought the game for the original Xbox. I enjoyed that it was a sequel to the film and honestly didn’t feel the game was flawed (of course playing it now 22 years later the game will feel very flawed but at the time I was immersed in the story so really any funky gameplay mechanics really didn’t phase me). BUT I never beat it. I got near the end and the game crashed in the middle of saving, the save file was corrupt, I had to start all over again. I remember feeling so pissed off, sunk hours into it, got so close to the ending and had it ripped from me. I never picked up the game again after that. So I’m hoping they breath new life into this, improve on it so I can play through it again fresh and finally finish what I started as a teenager 22 years ago

Hopefully they do change quite a bit of new stuff with it, like combat, make the aiming a lot more like the evil within or re, add new stuff to the infection system, add new enemies & some new weapons, make replays more varied, etc., & i also really hope we get a full on RE2 style remake with modern graphics content & gameplay, or a completely brand new game with a new story, etc. But this remaster will probably have to sell well for that to happen.
