DAS CARBON-1 or DAS CARBON-2 A continuous live feed of buoy location and status information is sent using certified AIS Type 1 transmissions to your VTS centre as well as to all nearby vessels. Precise buoy location is shown on all chart displays, along with real time local weather conditions providing vital real time navigation information. On your VTS system you will receive alerts if the buoy is off-position, Their will be a buoy near by with the transmitter on it !

Casting off before starting the engine in a current like that - now there is a man confident his motor will start! Great video guys, the old Nab is looking a bit smarter than it was the last time I saw it! The old currents are strong down that way, but nothing compared to the other end of the island - from Cowes down past the Needles can be very exciting!

Don't know how I missed this 2yrs ago! but wow that was some journey Matt and Steve 👍 Never knew the history of the Nab Tower so thank you! Scary stuff watching you pull the boat back against those strong currents and then passing the bags in 😱and then wondering if the engine would start!! but well done for expertly manoeuvring and some fabulous drone footage. Really great explore 👍👍

That was amazing 🤗 I must admit did get a bit anxious when you were getting back to the boat, just so easy for that to unravel fast and end up in real trouble. Superb footage for the whole video, editing top notch as always. Very envious, you're living the life dude that's for sure 👍🏻

I've scuba dived on this site. Below the surface, it's a bit like a giant wedding cake with concentric circles about 4-5m high getting gradually larger in diamater down to the seabed at around 25m. The lower 15m or so is open to the sea and has loads of sea bass iving in it.

That took some skill, I was surprised at the speed of the tidal race that far from the shore. My ancestors fished those waters - now I see why the Isle of Wight used galleys instead of sail, which were faster. My grandfather was a Foreman on Nab Tower during WW2. He'd been an Electrical Artificer (Radio) in the Royal Navy, and worked for Naval Intelligence, based in Room 40 at The Admiralty. He was a tad overqualified for a Lighthouse Keeper, so I have often wondered if he had Anti Submarine Warfare duties on Nab Tower. What's the evidence for an ASW role for Nab Tower between 1920 and when Trinity House took it on? It is difficult to imagine the RN passing up a good opportunity for a listening post at a strategic location.

In November 1999, the merchant freighter , carrying a cargo of bananas and pineapples, hit the Nab. The ship was badly damaged and only avoided sinking by being run aground. The base of the tower suffered superficial and internal damage. The damage was repaired in 2001

Always have back ups such as torches food water. Also a power bank with usb cable always handy for your phone. A phone is no good without power for emergencies. Also matt is well equipped with a marine wireless radio. Boating takes time and practice maneuvering boat etc currants tide times etc. Excellent video matt 👍⚓⛴ happy sailing the monpon.
