He did that til I was about 15, and then became a rules examiner. As a close to lifetime long skier i have made it up to LakeTahoe/Reno area for many many 3-4 day to a week long trips from home in the Bay Area...While there i have made many a trip to Virginia City and Carson City...Have been to Virginia City for the couple of the city celebrations like the camel races, outhouse races, Mountain oyster cookoff, chilli cookoff, hippie days etc...I love the Red Dog Saloon as they often have entertainment there...Even saw Janis Joplins old band Big Brother and the Holding Co. there...Have seen the place look like a ghost town and have seen it so crowded i didnt want to be there...When Reno has the street vibrations, Virginia city is a popular go to for all the bikers...My favorite thing there is the store that has all the many many barrels of salt water taffy and nostalgic soft drinks and signs....Have spent a fortune in that store LOL....The old firehouse restaurant at the end of town is a good place to eat...Love the million dollar saloon there also because most people dont know about it other than the locals...Love hangin out there in the winter time....In the old days Virginia City used to be the place to go if your into Black Hills Gold jewelry....It gone now but it used to be everywhere there....Have yet to stay in the RV park though....You did go to one place i havent been to there though, the Cider Factory....I doubt you folks are still in the area but if you get the chance you should also check out the little town of Genoa not far from Minden NV ...Pretty kewl place.....Travel safe, be well...

What a fantastic video and if we ever get that far across the Pond, Virginia City is a must! We live in Penzance, Cornwall, UK and there is a lot of mining history here. The mines were slightly different as some would stretch up to a mile out under the sea! Tin was mined along with copper and in some places uranium. The mining industry eventually died out due to cheaper ore being imported from other countries from Asia and the Far East, which made Cornish mines commercially no longer viable with being too expensive to run. There is some talk of possibly opening up some of the mines but that's yet to happen. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

"Switching" is when trains change tracks. The antique tracks have to be done manually, so the train slows down and someone hops off, turns the switch, allowing the train to transfer to another set of tracks, then after the train passes, the person turns the switch back again and hops back on the train. I don't know, but it would seem to me Amtrak and modern cargo trains and the rails they use would have a more convenient system operated from inside the engine car.

Hi Tanya and Dave! Virginia City is a very interesting place with a lot of history! That food that y'all had looked scrumptious. A self flying camera? It sounds like something you would see circling the streets of Salem, MA by its "previous" inhabitants. What is a switching maneuver? Answer: It's when one or more train cars are disconnected from a moving locomotive and as the moving locomotive pulls away, the train cars are immediately switched from their current track to another track to roll to a desired position by themselves. I hope this explanation helps. That school house was something else. As for that place with the ghost, I digress. 🤣 I really enjoyed this Virginia City excursion! Y'all continue to be and stay safe out there. GOD bless!
