Driven very rough erroding and also very muddy terrain daily for 20 years in the most remote places and never had the differential lock to rely on. I think it a good option, but I never used it.

This is the reason why We've always owned Toyota 4runners(About 10 of them. As God is my witness, I am not bragging. I remember my first few rounds, at Rear E-locker were when we purchased our '00 Tacoma TRD, as well as our '00 4Runner Limited with the rare E-Locker(Yes, in a Limited). Ahh!! Those were the days..

Just ordered the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro in electric lime metallic! It looks so much better in person. Only issue is head room with the moon roof. Fixing that with the 949 steering wheel extension adds 2.1in to overall length. Note to Toyota, give it just 2in more of telescope ability from the factory.

Watching from Rhode Island. We have a 21 black 4Runner limited. I know it’s not a TRD pro but most of our driving in on the road or sand beaches.. We mainly purchased the 4Runner for winter driving and towing a boat. We really like the all-time four-wheel-drive feature. When my lease is up I would love to get a TRD pro. Dealers around here are asking 15-20k above sticker. Crazy

That Atrac is no good in heavy mud uphill. The fronts dont even turn when loaded up with weight dry. Need a front locker as well for serious off roading

That’s the great thing about these vehicles, there’s a bunch of different options for various situations. in my opinion CRAW is the one you use as a last resort. It’s gotten me out of impossible situations (multiple people approached me and asked me if I needed help but I told em I’m good cause I knew crawl would get me out)

I think you answered my question regarding the rear locker. I wanted to know if you are supposed to use the rear locker at the same time as one of the MTS settings. Looks to me like you use one or the other, but not both at the same time. Going to play Saturday, I want to test it out a little.

You should be able to have the dif locked,no matter if youre in 2wd,4 high or 4 low. Kinda pointless in 4low only. Most of this video couldve been done in 2wd with the dif locked

I still don’t understand while in 4 low the front wheels can’t pull you out without use of locker. I understand if you had slippage with front tires it comes in handy but it looked like they always had contact with solid ground in front unless camera view just didn’t show front spinning also. PS: I have an FJ and 23 trail team Tacoma. I’ve never needed Atrac or rear locker with the FJ.

I rarely use the locker. MTS in rock mode, when that fails I use the locker

@@steve9348 no you don't have to choose any MTS when in 4x4. You have to press the MTS button to select any modes. And yes just press the locker button on and off, it'll show up on your dash.

I own a 4Runner, and I do in fact love it. But my Jeep is way more capable than my 4Runner. Honestly, one could do all that driving backwards drinking a beer in a Jeep. In addition: Altho the locker in 4Runner is a welcomed addition to have. But sadly, the fact you can’t use it the same as a Jeep Rubicon locker or an aftermarket locker (ex. ARB). Makes me a little fearful to use it. 🤷I don’t know- Am I wrong? About the 4Runner rear locker vs Jeep & aftermarket comparison.
