We Got TRAPPED In Death Valley In the Middle of Summer!
On this episode, we're traveling home from a 7 day Utah road trip, 6 hours across the Mojave desert, when a big-rig carrying lithium-ion batteries overturned on Interstate 15, catching fire near Baker, California, closing north and southbound lanes. Rather than endure traffic in 116º weather, we attempt a detour (fail), eat dinner at The Mad Greek in Baker, admire the World's Largest Thermometer, and drive through the surreal Death Valley Road to stay the night at the Shoshone Inn in Death Valley.

You guys can make the best of any situation 🌵 I was just in the area, stayed at Delights Hot Springs in Tecopa and then on to Shoshone for breakfast at the Crowbar which was pretty good. 👊🏻 Possibly a return trip in Oct... That's if i can manage some time off from the mines ⛏ (just kidding) I'm too soft for manual labor 😹

Another trip to the area to see more of Tecopa is definitely on my travel list. If you make it back and stay at the Inn, the hot spring fed pool is pretty remarkable-especially on a cold fall night. Did you make it out to China Ranch Date Farm?

@@artistic-off-road China Ranch is on the to-do list for the next trip ... I did go to the DV Oasis which was an outstanding experience 👊 So much to see in the area 🌵

There is a cool place to check out on the outskirts of Shoshone (pronounced by many, including us, as "Shoshonie") called Dublin Gulch where miners carved houses into the hillsides and many of them are still there. Too bad you didn't know about that when you were there I guess. That traffic jam made national news, by the way.

The name sounds familiar, but has never been on my radar ...until now. Looking forward to a future visit.
