The torn photo at 5:01 is in colour, colour photography did exist but was very uncommon. I was born in the 60's and some of my early photos were in black in white. And the mom really does not look like a 50's woman on it.

I was once trying to come up with absurd Lifetime movies they ought to do, and the best one I thought of was "Mommy I Can't See You", the heart-wrenching tale of a mom who can turn invisible and must choose between being a good suburban mom and the CIA's secret weapon in the war against Central American drug lords. Leave it to Fred Olen Ray to take my idea and then wreck it.

You should watch A Little Peace and Quiet from the 80s Twilight Zone revival, it's not the same story but a sort of similar tragic vibe - a tired suburban mom gains the power to stop time on the brink of nuclear war. Pretty sure that's the very first segment of the show, the second segment has Bruce Willis in it.

You're right about when the movie is supposed to take place being undistinguishable. I agree that it looks like the 40s or 50s but then you have a scene with the woman that works at the orphanage with a cell phone. Fred Olen Ray is such an enigma within the movie industry. For years he's consistently confused audiences by producing movies that range so widely in quality that it's hard to understand what his end goal is. Considering he's nearing his 70s and still pumping stuff out; I genuinely think he just loves making movies. He doesn't care about the end products quality, just the process. It's like pottery; making it is fun, whether you make anything good however is a different matter altogether.

I tend to associate him with Jim Wynorski and David DeCoteau. All of them often working for Roger Corman or Charles Band to produce low-budget B-movies, usually with an element of exploitation. The run they've all had in making generic, direct-to-video kids movies was one of the stranger turns for the industry.

A lot of times low budget films get repackaged for a franchise tie-in to help increase odds of someone actually seeing it, so I feel like that might've been what happened here - someone got a script of "siblings try to kill their relative who's the heir to the estate but he's armed with pranks to stop them" and decided to add in the invisible mom stuff so they could bill it as a sequel, except nobody saw the original Invisible Mom anyway?

I don't know whether it's a reference, a rip off, or a coincidence but the whole "piano playing to show the supposedly haunted but not haunted house is haunted" thing is straight from the Don Knott's movie The Ghost and Mr Chicken. The central location is a haunted house with ghost that plays the pipe organ (with a much, much more memorably scary song as well), the haunted house is revealed to not be haunted, and then the movie ends with a wedding scene where after the kiss the ghost takes over the organ playing us into the credits.

Holy crap, Brutalmoose's old review of Invisible Dad is one of my favorite videos he made, I had no idea the same director just kept going with the concept.

The actress who played Olivia was in an episode of Murder She Wrote too (found out when I was trying to figure out why she was familiar... didn't figure it out). The episode was "Jessica Behind Bars".

I’m crying from laughing, but also for some strange reason very attracted to Olivia. Love the Mortica Addams lighting on her face. Edit:no seriously this woman is my new favorite crush she knows exactly what movie she’s in, and is just eating it up.

Semi-annual recommendation to check out Psi Factor Chronicles of the Paranormal! I don't have a specific episode in mind, but from what I remember I'm sure any would do. Super campy 90s scifi/horror 'we have xfiles at home' energy.

For the month of October would you please review the scarecrow episode and the golem two-parter from The Haunting Hour? The latter is shockingly dark and mature even by that show's standards.

I... think I actually saw IM1 back in the day. The woman in the towel going in and out triggered a memory. I suspect I'd watched it as one of the many, many "no, anything but creepy horror, thanks" videos I watched at night while my children were feeding/keeping me up all night and my ex was working out of town (I lived in a country area which got very, very dark at night and was very, very quiet so watching daft movies kept me from imagining.... I don't know, the mothman or something). Thanks for the fun video. :D

Maybe you're too young to notice, but I think the adoption women actor is Cissy ( Kathy Garver} from Family Affair, the Dad's actor I believe is Ernie ( Barry Livingston) from My Three Son. I'm sorry for knowing this. 😁

Oh my god I thought I saw a familiar cover in that list of all those Fred Olen Ray movies -- Kurtis Conner made a video semi recently about The Kid with X-Ray Eyes, also starring that same kid (Justin Berfield), and made in the same year as this movie, as i just found out 😂

The Monkees are my all-time favorite band. I listen to their albums daily and watch the Blu-rays of the show at least twice a year. Everyone needs to check out 'The Monkees' film, 'Head'; it's one of the greatest films ever made. RIP Mike, Davy, and Peter. I miss you all every day.

Fred apparently made not three, but four invisible parent movies that I could see. One from 1998 is Mom's Outta Sight and it sounds as slapped together as Invisible Dad. Speaking of invisible dogs, I'd love to see your take on My Magic Dog since Brutalmoose had fun with it years ago and its so riffable.
