I think Sniper wants to return to where his grandparents came from it's a lot warmer there. Blue Healers were first bred here in Australia, the say that the yellow spots in the corner of their eyebrow is a throwback to their Dingo heritage. Many years ago we bred Blue Healers to work our cattle but now we have Red Kelpies as they are better travellers. The Blue Healer is a good yard up dog when you might have some stubborn cattle, my daughter in law has Snipers twin brother, he is her guard dog and playmate won't leave her side. Interesting what you mentioned about the calving temperature where -12 is better than above zero. We have finally received some welcome rain, not enough to fill dams but good grass rain. Hope you have a safe winter coming into you calving time, from memory your stud cows should be soon followed by you commercial cows. I see a few sleepless nights for you with little help since the boys are away. Stay safe and here is to a good successful calving.

Sniper doesn't mind the cold, at -40 he would probably wouldn't mind a vacation. The first blue heelers in Canada came to my home town when a Veterinarian imported them after spending his winter bronc riding in Australia. I'll sleep when I'm dead so I don't need it now. lol

Well if or when it comes down to it, it's better to have a calf that's chilly then having a calf that's freezing, but that's my opinion. Not trying to sound nosey, but do you feed just plain dry green hay? Cuz us framers usually don't give our cows grain they just have good quality hay and they still get content, sometimes fat depends on how much you give then...lol but inerways I was just asking. So good video. Last but not least sorry to hear about your dad hope he's doing well.

Right now everything is eating corn silage, when more cows are calved out I will start feeding some hay everyday.

With the amount of straw your using for bedding alone I think you could make a payment on a nice bale shedder?

Maybe but you have to have money to make the payments and I don't

Was it that heifer that had the twin bull calves?
@AndersonCattleCo4 жыл бұрын
nope Wyatt had a purebred cow have the twins but first she stole the heifers calf. Locked the cow up down at the steel corral and she was doing ok with her calves then Tuesday morning I found she had killed them both.

Have you ever had to put a cow down? I had too the other day felt bad cause she had a 2 month old calf. The cow was 14+ years of age. She was from 3 bulls ago. Not my cow. and when she was in better condition I tried telling grandma to sell her but noooo "she can have calfs 2x a year" I said "bull sh*t" Sure enough. 12/11/19 she had her 2nd calf for 2019 sadly saturday she was dying. Couldnt get her to lift head. The prior 3 weeks she was on alfalfa hay. I think that's why she lasted 3 more weeks.

Tbh it's what ever. It happens once a blue moon. Hopefully grandma will hear me out next sale day and I see an old cow with not to good looking of a bag and body condition.
