I saw an interview Martha Stewart did at the Metropolitan Museum. The curator said they cleaned paintings with a mild enzymatic cleaner. She said, “oh, really, what do you use.” He replied somewhat sheepishly “Saliva, yes we spit clean them, it’s the best way because it does no damage over time.”

The painting is wonderful, you should get a restoration done professionally to bring back the colour and protect it from flaking any more. Each amazing piece of history you bring into the convent will definitely add to it's value, not just monetarily but historically. I can't wait to see more of the convents new history unfold.

Posey is a brand of hospital/care home soft belts and straps used by personnel to assist disabled patients to move, walk and often humanely tied to a chair so they don't fall. Patients are deemed a "fall risk" in need of a "posey". Also have special socks with rubber tred to prevent slip and fall.

A Posey is a kind of vest restraint used on old people to keep them from wandering and hurting themselves. I get the feeling some nun with speech difficulties was not very happy about wearing it. lol That was hilarious. 🧡

A vertical flat stock bolted into the wood could act as a fulcrum. Drill a hole in the top for some rope, run through a pulley down to wherever you want to ring it from. Tie a scarf around the clapper so it doesn’t gong while you a fitting and testing. Should wait till Christmas to ring the bell. Would be special for the entire town. Beautiful painting. Worth every km driven for that!

Definitely have a conservator restore it as I can see it is in danger of paint loss in the craquelure. It is a beautiful painting. A posey is a small bouquet of flowers.

My father was an Episcopal priest for 49 years. My brother was ordained 30 years ago. To see this chapel, a blessed and sacred place, being restored; a bell placed in the belfry; and the eventual cleaning and restoration, is emotional and brings me great joy. I had that same problem with Ivy. Now, I'm big on supporting nature, but she has to do right by me too. Letting her pull my house down is a step too far. Mary Magdalene is a beautiful choice for the convent, tradition has it that she lived out the remains of her life in France and is buried there somewhere (I know - it's a big place).

NOOOOOOOO!!!! Please do not attempt to assemble the bell up In the tower, go with your first idea of assembling It, then use a winch to pull the whole thing up. The bell would be absolutely crazy hard to manhandle and bolt up while standing half on beams. If you do as you originally planned you will just have to worry about sliding one pin Into an already mounted barring and then sliding the second one on and bolting It down. Much much safer and easier. You should be able to mount both barring assemblies In advance and then just remove one for Install. Just my thoughts, be safe and can't wait to see It in. Amazing project, good luck.

“Posey” used to refer to a device that was attached to the mattress with a buckle and then around the waist of a patient with dementia from wandering around at night, possibly out the door and lost. This was in the 70s. Nursing homes and hospitals are no longer supposed to use restraints unless it is a doctors order for someone who slides out of the chair and might hurt themselves.

I thought restraints like that were banned in England, or at least their use in care homes is regarded as bad practice. France is likely to take the same view nowadays.

A posey is a bed restraint. It looks like a vest with long straps that they can tie to the bed in case they're invalid and can't get up at night

Very nice painting. Would be good to restore it soon so it doesn't flake off at bottom. If you take a hand held black light to a painting in darkness, you may be able to see previous repairs, over painting, hidden signature and other writing, and such on the painting. Sometimes called a "Woods Light," these lights are also used in Veterinary Medicine to see fungal infections such as "Ringworm" which will flouresce in darkness under said lamp. Urine marks will also flouresce, so you can in the dark see mouse trails in buildings. Just turn off the regular lights, turn on black light, and prepare to see a whole hidden world! I have used such lights in both art curation and veterinary clinic setting.

A "posey" is a soft vest restraint that is put on an elderly person or any patient in a nursing home or hospital when they are confused and their condition requires them to stay in bed so they don't hurt themselves. They call them soft restraints now.

in villages like the one in which I grew up the bell in our case of the church, plays an important role in the routine of the atmosphere of the village. Talk to them the bell is not overwhelming in it could add to the live of the place

Just an observation, but at the start of the video when the drone was flying over the chimneys, there was a glowing red flue. It was hard to see through the smoke but it appeared that there were flames up there. Might need a good chimney sweep. Stay safe - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...

Fire !!! Your work on the convent has been amazing Ryan. I want to only give you a safety tip. Go not do any welding in the roof or bell tower. Even when its raining outside. The wood is very old and dry! You talked about welding the bottom nuts on the carriage bolts. This is Dangerous. You should use a lock washer instead. I have seen what one spark can do on dry wood. This is also what may have happened at the Notre dame Cathedral..
