Today we're night fishing from the Texas City Dike Rocks. The Black Drum bite has been turning on right at sundown. So we're setting up our lights so y'all can see the action.

I don't know how many remember the "old days" when the Texas City Dike had no entry or use fee and at the end was the lighted pier. That pier is where my grandfather taught me how to fish for the big black drum. Also, they had GREAT cheeseburgers, cooked to order! I think Hurricane Ike finally did it in. There was an event every year called the Texas City Dike drum run. I'm not sure if this event is still happening but my grandfather loved to enter it. Great memories made with him!! I'm glad to see that the dike is sill being taken care of. It looks like the entry fees now charged are being put in to helping to maintain it. As always, a BIG shout out to Mark (MDLR Fishing) for always doing his part to pick up after the nasty people! Tight lines to you too Mark!

I remember the incessant crabs when trying to fish and lost $ bait. Also lost a tackle shop's worth of tackle trying to fish the bottom. All this during the 80's post Alicia.

I’m 77 years old, the first time fishing my dad said that I was about six years old… I think I remember but not really. When I became hooked on fishing, I was about eight years old…. I remember vividly. It was a Highpoint of 77 years because it was a first time. Three walleyes between 4 pounds and 10 pounds each. I consider it respectable. I had no help catching them or netting them. My course was set. I even took a job as a mate on a boat at one point, the best job I ever had. The one thing I learned over my life…. It is actually a question that needs to be answered. “ Can the fish read? Are they aware that they’re supposed to be?” I have cooked fish today that only bite at night. I’ve caught red snappers off the beach. Hi caught a shark on a bear hook (not unusual). I’ve landed fish that were supposed to be horrendous fighters, but they acted like they were out for a walk on a leash. This is always a dilemma when you go to netball them or Gaff them. Sometimes they explode the ferocity you could be caught off guard. I’ve gone fishing when the forecast for fishing was next to zero, and I have filled my limit. Then I’ve been out when when, according to the forecast, there should be almost jumping into my boat, or onto the shore. And I don’t catch even one. I even caught a mango snapper, approximately 6 miles from shore. I also learned over my 70 years that men in general do not like to be out fished. Very few men likely with them when they’re fishing… jealousy. Then you have people like my late husband, who is thrilled that I catch fish. we are always in competition against each other, we do not take it personally. My husband told me, that a bystander asked him about the fish that I have just caught. Thinking that he would be jealous in someway. Apparently his reply was, ‘ It looks like a great fish, and plenty for us to eat tonight. We can just fish for fun.’

Great video Marc!! Just an idea for you fishing at night, get some silver reflective tape and wrap around rod every foot or so, this allows you to see every movement of the rod. Any other color of tape won't work as good. Just a thought from a old salt.

curious question for you... a fresh water drum has rockes in its head... they clap them together when mating to call in the females.... and they are pretty, like a pearl when used to make a belt buckle.... anyway the question is do the salt water drums have the same rocks in their heads... I all ways thought thats the reason they are called drums as they clap those rocks like a drum calling the females to breed with....

Caught quite a few that size an some larger. But when I fileted a couple sizes that big. They all had lots of strange looking worms but ONLY near the tails. It was freaky. So I throw large ones back every time. Has anyone else had that problem? Is this because of their size?

One of the easiest signs that they need to be vented is a protruding anus. The next one is an inflated belly. Looks like they have a football inside them.

It id weird to me that sll of your reels are set up for left handed people??? Is that true you are all left handed? I didn't pay attention when you cast????v or were you guys just taught to fish that way? My father-in-law was left handed and so my wife would reel, with everything up side down???? Same with her twin and their brother !!!
