Nothing more frustrating than having to adjust what was thought to be the correct install. Very impressed by your positive demeanour and let's get it done attitude. I would also like to note how much your wife has matured in front of the camera. She used to be so shy back in the days on your old property. You would move snow, clean and warm her car and off to work she would go. Now she does just about anything you can do too. Good for her, it is a tribute to her tenacity and desire to be able to do anything you can do too. Gina has my total respect and admiration. Plus keeping the wife happy is vital lol.

There’s something inherently satisfying and soothing about both your tones of voice and attitude. I don’t care if you’re building a space rocket or making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. When you hit a snag it’s just a small bump and not a catastrophe. I love the juxtaposition of him working like an animal and her playing with the animals. 😂 Those barn cats are so adorable. The seal point is a purr machine! You guys are a ton of fun to watch. Thanks for a great channel.

Awesome sink for sure. Suggestion: put a sheet of stainless steel on the wall the width of your sink area and about two feet high (or higher) and caulk across the sink where it joins the stainless steel in order to save your painted wall and make it easier to clean the wall??? Fantastic job on your plumbing retrofits what a nightmare that turned out to be for sure. Al you need to stop laying down on the job LOLOL Joking here. God's Blessings to you ALL.

Now that the pvc wall is all cut up... I would have gone in through the other side. When you have access to the other side, you have choices! Also, I really prefer to use drop-ear elbows, with a nipple going through the wall. That way the valves and escutcheon can be easily removed and replaced.

For my birthday my wife bought me the DeWalt oscillating tool (affectionately named "the Buzz-Buzz" -or- "the Artist's Tool") Things I learned: 1. Wear hearing protection. 2. I should have probably paid better attention in art class. 3. Keep your eye on the ball, you are rolling free-hand here.

I think those water hoses connect to standard 1/2 inch pipe, so extending the original hoses is simple: You get a a couple of 1/2 inch close nipples and two 1/2 inch to 1/2 inch hoses as long as you need. Connect the original hose end fitting to the nipple, and then run the extension hose to the wall shut-off. Very cheap and easy, and all the Big Box stores have the parts you need. You also get to use the original tight els, so the sink fits up against the wall.

The connector on the end host that goes to the wall shut-off is actually a 3/8 inch compression fitting with straight threads. A close nipple has tapered pipe threads not straight compression threads. To join two female ends of 3/8 supply hoses you need to use a male-male 3/8 inch coupler (not a 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch pipe nipple).
@StoneKathryn

@Conn653 Жыл бұрын
Instead of all the extra work for the hoses, I would have opted for a 3/8" diameter, 10-12" long add-on hose with male fitting on one end and female fitting on the other. Then connected these add-ons to the original hoses. You would be able to keep the original fittings and get the sink closer to the wall. The add-ons would cost less, too.

All I wanted to do was fit a replacement drinking water tap, seven hours later it was done. Plumbing has to work round everything else, in your case a change of plans to add a complication. At least you can adapt the plans when the needs change and can sort out the spares to get it done the way that is wanted, so well done for winning through.

I see at 25:23 that you added an Air Admittance Valve (AAV) to vent that drain. But the AAV one you installed is for installation in unsealed locations like under a kitchen counter. Your Zip walls are so well sealed, that air is going to have a hard time getting to the AAV. The AAV will create a vacuum inside that wall cavity and the drain will still drain slowly. You need to add a vent grill to the wall so it's not sealed up. They make an AAV combined with a mounting box and a grill for installations where the AAV is sealed inside a wall.

Al: I have had many decades of living with drain lines in various properties we have livedin and rented out. I foree potential problems with animal and plant residue going into your septic tank. In order to have a chance for this stuff to ferment ,you have to have very fine particles, (high surface area to mass ratio). I would add a heacy duty, multi stage garbage grinder. Secondly , your sharp 90 elbows are build up points for clogging. Sweeps lower your risks. They also allow a cleanout snake to easily advance. Lou Messer, retired engineer.
@StoneKathryn
@StoneKathryn Жыл бұрын
Good points. When we had to put a septic in our installer had to put two tanks because we had a garbage disposal already that we never use. I think he said that the first tank was to catch the garbage disposal particles and the second tank would stay free of them that way.

Good morning guys! Haven’t moved from New Hampshire to Carolina two years ago I’m not gonna say I miss the snow but it is very pretty the first snowfall especially! We got a dust in last year and everything shut down and it just made me smile to know that all those years I drove in New Hampshire didn’t really like it that much but you had to do what you had to do!Those kittens are so adorable I don’t know how you can’t just sit with them all day long❤

commercial sinks used for food prep never have the drains of the 2 sides connected. the T and trap is at the wall and the drains from the sink are not physically connected but sit just above a 3" coupling that acts as a funnel. this is so any drain backup spills on the floor and doesn't ruin your food.

Al, you have SO MUCH patience. Amazing fix. I would have given up and throwed that beautiful sink outside!!! Not really. I would have at first had a big cry though.

Watching the vlog as I type, we had the same issue at our farm shop kitchen... The builders did the same as you and we had the exact same issue! None of us wanted to rip out the wall so a frame was built the size if the sink to bring the wall out further and made space between the back of the sink etc... Once the plumbing was all in place a cabinet was built around with shelving either side and it looked great as though it was meant to be lol

Maybe I have a warped sense of humor but when Al said he’d get a bucket because there was water in the pipes, I was drinking my coffee. When he unscrewed the fitting and water shot up, I almost spit my coffee out 😂

I could write a book about the times that jobs done by professionals had to be revisited so you are in good company. In fact, most of the jobs I've hired done I regret that I didn't just take the time and do it myself.

Hi Al, just a small tip. When using your PVC cutters on different types of pipes, once the cutter starts to dig in, just twist the pipe and it will slice through without damaging the pipe

Hi guys, love your videos, glad to see that you are doing well. love the cats. The water line for the sink all you need is a 6" extension it has a female and a male end, just screw the male end on to the one you have and that's it.
@57firetruck
@57firetruck Жыл бұрын
Al, each sink should have it's own P-trap, not one common for both. The way you plumbed it in when you fill one sink full of water and then pull the drain plug the water will run over into the empty sink and fill it before doing down the drain.

Good morning Lumnahs! Good idea bringing the sink in before the install commences, like wood things can shrink whilst they are cold & expand back again when warmed up, hence installing it at room temps... Nothing beats sharp kitchen knifes Al & Gina, on occasion I sharpen my kitchen knives down in the workshop using a 4000/6000 Japanese stone, same stones I use on my planer blades & chisels as in cutting through thin paper with barely any pressure, just the weight of the blades themselves, done, time to slice some veggies, with ease, lol! Bill... :~)

Good morning Lumnahs and all my fellow Lumnah Acres viewers! Oh no, snow! Our snow is melting here in Minnesota. Did you see all the ash chunks that Mark got put of Justin Rhode's wood boiler? I hope yours isn't crudding up like Justin's did. Yay! I like that sink and how you got Gina to approve it. When there is a gap in a drain pipe I just get another tail piece and cut it down to fit. Nice faucet! They didn't have a stiffener plate for the supply taps? So sad that you have to re-do the plumbing for the commercial sink install. Yay, no leaks! Too bad the flex hoses aren't long enough. The paint makes the wall look perfect again! Thanks for this Lumnahs! It's looking like it'll be soon that you'll be moving in. So exciting!

Good Morning y'all, I know you didn't want to tear out your wall, for that new sink. It's good you was able to retro fit it & the job didn't look bad in the end. The cabinet you you going build around will definitely hide it.
