People tried pitting them against each other back in the day, but musically, they’re quite different and even stylistically, personally, and their whole vibe. They can’t be compared. I was equally a fan of both groups in middle school!! Of course, it was initially Spice Girls for me, as they more or less came out first, and I’d heard of them earlier… but by early 1998 I had found All Saints' debut album after hearing "I Know Where It's At" on the radio… and what a gem of an album, from start to finish!

Gotta love how everyone's rewriting the past these days and claiming to always have been feminists. All Saints did say some nasty things about Spice Girls, just like Christina said about Britney, Paris about Lindsay, Madonna about several women etc. Tbh all of it is completely understandable considering how young people behave in general. I remember seeing pics of Mel C and Nicole (and possibly Mel Blatt) partying together in 1997 or 8 in Smash Hits and feeling so betrayed that she would talk to them after they had always appeared to be dismissive of the Spice Girls' success 🤣 And then Mel B and Shaznay both appeared on a music show hosted by Jo Wiley on Channel 4 and you could kind of tell thats was where the tension stemmed from.

yeah its true but you also gotta remember they were all in their early 20s then and All Saints got asked about the Spice Girls in like every single interview for their first album promo but i get that after saying ''They are really good at what they do but we are a different group'' for 300 times in every country of the world, some day theyd be tired and say what they said. Mel C and Natalie became friends even in the 90s though and Emma and Nicole were always friendly too. I do think Mel B admitted she had a fight with Shaznay once at a bathroom at an event or something haha

@@Marc-zi5cq All Saints said in their first interview with Music Week "we're better and prettier than them". They were haters from the get go. London Records had tried to sign the Spice Girls 2 years earlier and they went with Virgin. There was a clear decision to set them up as the anti-Spice Girls and create rivalry. Most of the comments came from Shaznay & Mel though. Nicole talks about in her book she wanted to chat with the Spice Girls at the Brits in 98 and Shaznay & Mel were not impressed.
