I think the fact these five women went their own way before making it says it all. It annoys me when people discredit them as a manufactured girlband. Yes they were originally put together by a team of men however they rebelled againist that and formed the makings of the band themselves, they were never put in front of people to notice them, they put themselves out there to be seen. Even Geri was not the first choice but through guts and ambition she pushed herself to the final 5. To me, they represented Britain of the 90s and the fact that are still so relevant almost 30 years ahead says it all

Geri, Mel B and Victoria were actually in the original line up, Mel C was added when another one dropped off as she had missed dates because of tonsilitis i believe, she wrote about it in her book, she was gutted. Emma was much later added when things with Michelle who was one of the original 5 didnt work out. She didnt gel with the other girls.

Thanks for this interview. Never get tired of listening to Melanie talking. I'm in my early 60's now, but one thing that has always annoyed me since my 20's is how some people don't know the difference between Women being assertive not aggressive, whenever women have a voice to put their point across they're always told they're aggressive, when in fact it's assertiveness. Grrr. 😂😂
