I remember Murambatsvina so vividly. I was just angry and confused, watching my dad have to tear down the cottage with my cousin (I think) because it was said they'd just bulldoze right through the main house if you didn't comply. It was horrific. I heard one of the neighbours had a stroke because his house was damaged. We have so much trauma due to these people

I love your show, man it brings so much awareness to topics that are not discussed typically on any news or comedic platform as well, You should do a lot more videos like a yesterday today, last week tonight, some shorter videos as well as something mirroring the daily show but with your own style. Being a large consumer of content from John Oliver, Trever Noah and Jimmy Kimmel I can tell your show has massive amounts of potential and it will succeed regardless. I do believe however it could improve a little more with more content per day and more inspiration from these shows that I have listed

These evictions have far reaching consequences because you cannot build and better one's life uchirara wakvhura ziso one. The sad thing is when all the development is happening, city fathers let it. Facts, I agree that greed on the part of landlords, land barons, and the government is at the core of that crisis, however it is an oversimplification to sum up the housing crisis as purely a political issue, that only "Zimbabwe" is seized with. We have "perfect" democratic governments today (UK, USA, - navigating through similar crises and in both cases the theme is not Zanu Pf/Republicans/The Conservative Party or labour but greed as you rightly note and self serving leadership. Thats where the solution is, but theres is no silver bullet. Housing is a complex issue.
@kingkandoro2 жыл бұрын
I just had to reread this, and I’m not sure where I implied that Zimbabwe is the only country that is having this issue. 😅 But even if we were to go down that route, show me instances in any of those countries were citizens “homes” have been reportedly demolished without alternative accomodation being provided. Instances were a government has actively and repeatedly contributed to citizens homelessness?
@kudakwashemasango29492 жыл бұрын
@@kingkandoro Well maybe not directly, but I noticed you made a lot of references to “our government” as you were discussing the negatives. As if to imply that maybe other governments are handling housing better. But that was just my way of illustrating the complexity. That you can have a different system/regime party and still grapple with the same issue in some way, because it’s much more than a political/policy issue. It’s economics/welfare etc. Yes other governments won’t implement draconian programs like we did with Murambatsvina. But in the UK for example, the government is actively scaling down on social housing and implementing policies that profit corporations and big businesses. The government has been on an austerity drive for the past decade, has cut local government spending incapacitating local councils ability to respond to issues such as homelessness. Some obstacles are planning zoning laws/ red tape. That normally appear to be easy/quick fixes.

Victoria Falls can be our new city. build big business there like cape town and major centers that attract commerce, give it pseudo autonomy to enact business friendly laws applicable only in the province or city. make sure that there is zero tolerance for corruption. build casinos, hotels, educational centers for highly sought after skills like computer science and medicines, give pseudo passports [Victoria falls and Zimbabwe E-passport] to foreign nationals with interest scores that attracts commerce, like a mini Switzerland i.e. if they bank with a Zimbabwean bank and have an account that holds more than 200k usd at any given moment or assets in country above 5mill usd they get a passport and are regarded a national and have their interests protected like state secrets- there will be a need for background checks of course. enact privacy laws that are super difficult to void. have a judicial system that is business friendly and state that no political party can run the city for more than 4 consecutive years. allow directors of the top 5 performing [judged on a social economic and environmental scale ] businesses in different industries to have council seats
