The " bulldog " name, came from the britts during the first war. The Mack Trucks were beating all the other trucks so the brits said the american trucks were tough as bulldogs. The Mack dog on the hood hasnt changed from the first dog that was on there. One of the Mack Brothers was in the hospital, injuried in the war I think. Anyways, with nothing to do " because they didnt have youtube, tiktok or facebook in the early 1900s ", he carved a bulldog from a bar of soap with his pocket knife and thats where the dog itself came from and why the dog has flat edges instead of being round and smooth.

So Dougo and boys you have finally got a proper truck in the fleet, it will out last all of those other toys you have. The 350 cool power motor would have to be one of the best motors ever built. In OZ we used them for year's pulling 2-3 trailer road trains with them 50 / 80 ton payloads. They weren't fast but they are reliable and will get the job done for you for many years.
@johnwallis89402 жыл бұрын
The mack should be called the mousetrap good work all round good purchase
@edselcross95362 жыл бұрын
Y'all stepped into it now. The Mack R model is a classic vocational fleet truck that won wars and built nations. I drove the piss outta mine and we made a lot of $$$. Keep a few treats in the cab and she'll go up a wall for ya. An R will go 50mph backwards. 6 speeds of reverse! You have a silver dog. If the bulldog was gold-plated, it came out of the Allentown factory with 100% Mack components. It should go without saying that a genuine gold dog is akin to a "numbers matching" car. But... they are a different beast. 1. They are weak in the axle shaft. Granted, you have to pull hard and rough to do it but they do shatter and send metal throughout the read-end. Standard procedure for a hard pull is to engage the lockers and never shift under that load. A broke axle can ruin the housing and/or the carrier if it is moved without recovering all the metal (mechanics repair it as it sits, or pull ALL the axle shafts and drive lines before towing... you don't want anything inside the pumpkins spinning that will turn a minor failure into a major. 2. The tranny is HUGE (and spendy). The 12-speed doesn't shift like a eaton/fuller/roadranger. She needs to go to neutral every shift whether a main or a split... or double clutch. You don't ever want to spend the dough to rebuild that gearbox. It is far more precious than the E-6 or 7. 3. This is the truck you want to check ride a new driver with!

Thanks for another great video Chet. It was interesting and enjoyable. Nice old Mack truck there. Believe it is a R model. They are tough. They will go forever. Looks to be in decent shape, just needs some good maintenance. Some suggestions on the nice. Get some coffee grounds and put the can in the cab. It will help kill the smell. Also another good one is put vinegar in an open top container and that kills the smell. Some companies make stuff you can put in the cab to keep the mice out. Check around, all kinds of stuff you can get to take care of the mice smell and keep them out. You will have to have the sign on the door taken off or just put a Larson sign over it. Quick fix. Good nice old Mack yet. The bulldog emblem comes from the WWII days if I understand right. Nice looking truck. The dump box seems in good shape also. For what you need it for, will do a great job for you. Good teamwork from all of you getting the maintenance up to speed. My compliments to Chet and Eric and Brody. Good workers. About it for now. Even here just outside Seattle, we have had deaths from this virus - if you are exposed to it, you have a 33% chance of dying. I have a new-to-me 2006 F350 that came from a farm, complete with a live Mr. Mouse who made a nest inside the HVAC system. So similar to this dump truck, I now have to take it apart and clean it all out. Best approach is to wet everything down with bleach water - you don't want to breathe the dust.
