We have no idea how to punish crimes

Have you ever wondered how lawmakers decide punishments for different crimes? On what basis do they prescribe minimum and maximum periods of imprisonment and amounts of fine? How do judges decide sentencing for each criminal? Does it seem arbitrary to you? Senior Advocate Rebecca John and Nyaaya.in CEO Srijoni Sen say you might not be too far from the truth.

Wonderful! Thanks for giving an insight about a very fundamental subject which often escape our attention. This is a subject of larger debate and intense research. I would be delighted to have it as a part of my research. Just a suggestion → It would be great if you would have also shown the countries having such 'Sentencing Policy'.
