A thoroughly enjoyable and intellectually stimulating discussion. It is quite a while since I have heard anyone speak up for Jesus with such controlled energy, calm passion and humility.

Hey Rebecca McLaughlin, I just listened to you speak at Liberty University today, and you did a beautiful speech, telling about your friend, how she had been saved from bleeding out in the street after being assulted. Thanks for that little talk on John 11 about Jesus rasing Lazris from the dead. Pardon my spelling!

Looove Reset! Thank you so much for these intellectual, fascinating discussions with various people - also not-yet-believers such as Douglas Murray (what an even greater asset he'd be as a follower of Christ🙂). This one is so interesting, too. What a treat, thank you again and may God bless your work.

I have huge respect for Douglas Murray and Jordan Peterson. Two non Christians who speak with clarity, insight and integrity on what is happening in our Western culture. I pray that both men will come to know the God who loves them and offers forgiveness, renewal and eternal life. I am sad that there are so few Christians speaking out prophetically for the Gospel. There are some great ministries, great apologists, but very few with the breadth of perspective of those two men..

@@h54h52 Made a similar note of respect regarding Douglas Murray and Tom Holland recently, regarding their intellectual honesty. Contrasted that with the intellectual vacuousness and social malevolence inspired by the "new atheist" likes of dawkins. Return comments were from a couple of new atheists were... predictable. One fellow was at least pretty witty, and I rather enjoyed the chat though. But it would seem that mockery has become a new proof of rational thinking. Perhaps Nietzsche should have been more discerning (or honest) about what was staring back from the abyss.

Rebecca's perspicacious comment on the 'horror' of Sapiens author YNH's suggestion that it's only our constructed fiction that makes us differentiated from other species... made me think of a common current trope in western liberal circles (often heard on BBC Radio 4): an unease with the 'old' idea of our specialness, a preference for 'humbly' considering ourselves just an animal like all the others... a false dichotomy that flows from having lost our confidence of being made in God's image.

The 'line' was thoroughly crossed in the 1700s, as evidenced with the French Revolution. Francis Schaffer, in The God Who is There, shows how the West crossed the 'Line of Despair' culturally at that period, and in The Great Evangelical Disaster, how this gradually translated itself into the church. We have seen various 'movements' since then amidst believers that have sought to reverse the trend, but the process has indeed continued. As Os Guiness was noting last week, the contemporary model for change has very much become the French (anarchistic) model rather than the English/American model of establishing common values from a Christian perspective. The thing which should sober us is that it's clear from the perspective of men like this that we've been able to identify this decline for most of my lifetime, but where we disconnect is in the manner we fail to identify what Rod Dreher recently examined - the cultural elites that are shaping our modernal world-view. That is imperative if we're to unpack the current changes that are now present globally.

The idea that the Samaritan woman was of ill repute is a late idea that developed as a result of the reformation. The early church (and the Orthodox Church today) saw her as the first evangelist and a woman of agency.

This was particularly helpful, especially the last part about marriage, intimacy that is not sexual and the cosmic love story. I can see now why there could be a lot of misunderstandings about the "Bride of Christ" (by imagining it like a male-female romantic story) and generally expression of fiery love ( or "falling in love") towards Jesus either by men or women. A strange alarm bell goes off in my mind and yet I know the kind of love/dedication etc.... they are describing. So thank you for clarifying something very important here!

26:17 People have a tendency to shout when they can't defend their belief foundations. Spot on. That explains a lot why secular people have been getting more loud lately (and perhaps why us Christians don't always shout back in return). I enjoyed this video commentary.
@boozecruiser
@boozecruiser Жыл бұрын
Are you sure about that? Christians have been loud for centuries about their desire to oppress and silence others. They still are, though many are afraid to speak their mind because we thankfully have a society that stands against fascism and theocracy

It's interesting that Rebecca predicts such large growth in the Muslim faith, the main Muslim apologists online are all concerned about the growing apostasy rate in young Muslims (some estimating up to 75% leaving their faith).

Did God say let us make man in his image or did God say I will make man in my image? It would appear that He specifically said "us" since Christ was part of the trinity from the beginning????

and that is at the core of the difference between islam and christianity....in christianity humans are created in Gods image...in islam this is not the case....in christianity God takes on humanity and sanctifies us...in islam humans are a creature to allah....and this is why christianity is true and islam is false...

It's highly interesting.Thank you.However, i'd like to point out that all translations of the Koran include terrible mistakes -such condition would not help any non Arabic speaking scholar to understand the text of the Koran as the basis of Islam.(Ex : No polygamy in Islam, No sharia law, No call for killing ,Jesus christ is a muslim).

Totally implausible to suggest that the koran is untranslatable and that foundational ideas that millions of muslims hold are somehow due to mistranslations from arabic. Please come up with a serious argument

@@Mateo-et3wl I did not say that the Koran is untranslatable but i pointed out that the whole readable translations now include terrible mistakes that affect meaning .Ex ( 'Nissa' is the plural of two words: 1-woman 2-the innovated and most theologians have excluded the context and stuck to the first meaning basing their reading on synonymy.As a result, women in (Anaam Surat ) come to be as objects of possession /assets along with gold, cattle, furniture .However the context shows well that God talks to whole humanity as lovers of the innovated /the new in social life.That's why in most Korans read , it is translated as ( women) and not( the innovated)- Such translations are misleading as they neglect the context which decides meaning.Thx

@@solank7620 Mohamed though prophet and messenger IS NOT Islam.I'm here advancing a pure linguistic issue related specifically to the text of the Koran.Also, if Mohamed had many wives , i guess, he was not the first to do that if you try to think with a brain getting back to 14 centuries before ( read Romans, Greeks, Babylonians...) .Polygamy was accepted and not even discussed along with slavery.As to Mohamed the prophet , it is said clear cut that God allowed him to do so but he did not legislate it.And back to the Koran, there's no polygamy at all if you allow yourself to read the text.Thx
@ahmeddourid4293
@ahmeddourid4293 4 жыл бұрын
@Tinu Adenegha You expose many points of importance and i'm aware why you are advancing these arguments , simply because you know or read or heard about an Islam as coined by islamic theology and has nothing to do with the text of the Koran.i 'm here humbly discussing with you under a great respect of the academic truth.First of all there is no allowing for 4 wives in the Koran and this shows that you did not read it and just depending on the propaganda of islamic theology.Second , the verse you gave should start with "Retaliate " not ''fight" and this verse makes part in the koranic stories not the book of legislation which is the core of what God want from us.Third, God in the text of the Koran gives the reader the way to read the Koran and how to understand it as God assures us that it's a holy all inclusive divine book.Interpretation as you montioned has totally different meaning in the text of the Koran, which means the concretisation of God information in the concrete world that is what interpretation within the linguistic frame of the Koran is.Also, to your knowledge , Jesus is regarded a muslim along with Moses down to Abraham.Christians , jews, buddhists are regarded muslims in the text of the Koran.it might seem weird to hear this but this is the Koran.What you know is a distorted version of Islam mingled with erroneous history and here you are .I do agree with you that millions of muslims in the west are false muslims as they read books of theology full of ideology and dogmatism.Most muslims regard Mohamed as the centre of the Koran(Islam) not God!! .This is why i do understand your position.You as is the case of millions are victims of a wrong version of Islam made by theologians of the state.There are many concepts made to propagate which have no utter basis in the text of the Koran ( Jihad is abnegation and force to tame the desire of the self) ( no sharia law) (No polygamy /in the Koran) ( No killing , just retaliating and defending) ( No stoning) ( No Hijab) , yet there's a great amount of calling for RESPECT for the non believers and the atheists) (unrelentless Call for FREEDOM of faith ) (Call for HUMAN VALUES which constitute the 15 commandements of God ( ex: Do not Kill, do help parents, ..).I'm really sorry because your knowledge of Islam is totally victimised by islamic theology which has presented a fully DISTORTED version of Islam .Any word i advanced here is accountable for academically by reading the text of the Koran ONLY and no other book of history or theology.
