I really appreciate the discussion from a Christian point of view as I too am Christian. . I was born in 1960 and went to a Texas public school for all 12 years where I was a minority as a white student, who never really thought of myself that way. My classmates were white, black and Mexican. In general as we moved through the 70’s most of us got along well. However, as the only white female basketball player on the high school basketball team I experienced racism from a very small number of players. One in particular threatened to physically harm me. When I stood up to her she backed off. When I later asked her why she disliked me, she told me because of slavery. She just didn’t want a white girl playing basketball. My response to her was that she nor her parents, grandparents, great grandparents were slaves and we were all going to the same school, same teachers ( black and white) etc. Later I had an opportunity to be part of a discussion with she and other teammates who were discussing whether one of the players should sleep with her boyfriend. I turned to her and said are you a Christian to which she quickly replied yes. So I said the Bible says we are not to sleep with someone who we aren’t married to. One black girl said in our culture it’s different. I replied, are you telling me there is one Bible for white folks and another for black? The entire group was silent until one gal spoke up and said, y’all she is right. That was the end of the discussion and we all parted quietly. I am not denying there was real wrongs that black people suffered in the past but my experience as an adult has been some black people have walked through life angry and bitter feeling as though preference should be given to them because of their race for a lifetime. Since I have a number of black adult friends who don’t act this way I think we have to be careful in coddling people who seemingly feel justified in always being the victim. It isn’t healthy spiritually or physically.

Rebecca's reason for staying in higher education reminds me of estuary (Paul Vanderklay's project) has been great in facilitating open and honest dialogue between Christians and non-Christians "truth seekers". We have 2 estuaries started in the UK and hopefully more to come.

"The 60's was when blacks got any measure of justice." Not true! When the British amd Americans shed their blood to free the slaves was justice! Repentance and faith for the individual is essential. Do you recommend repentance to the generations that never endured slavery for the wrongs our fathers did in the past? I have no problem with saying sorry and even begging forgiveness. Sadly the people screaming for justice and reparations are not interested in forgiveness. The Bible says to forgive 70x7 not to apologize 70x7 , not to throw pearls to swine. Also while Zaccias pride back 4 fold. That obligation was on Him who committed the theft not his later generations. I believe we need to speak the truth, the bad AND GOOD. so many are just focused on the wrongs of certian people and not how they have been trying to mend that ever since! Yes, racism still exists in individual situations and that needs to be addressed!!!!!!!

"... we are the people of love". She didn't say "we are a people of love", but Christians are THE people of love and therefore others aren't. This is simply sinful pride.
