I’m so glad Ernie Hudson played this part. Eddie Murphy would’ve made it a more outlandish character that probably would’ve been pretty forgettable. Hudson plays him as the normal guy in the middle of all these wild scientists, someone the audience can identify with. Even Dan Aykroyd himself has said that Winston’s calm every-man nature is super important to the group’s dynamic. And he’s funny as hell!

In explaining things to Winston, Egon and Ray explain things to the audience organically.

One of the things I have seen in many movies like this is that they have a character as part of the cast which, for a lack of a better way to put it, we the viewers can vicariously live the move through that character. We become part of the movie through that character. Winston Zeddemore is that character in Ghostbusters. He is the everyman, the mist relatable of all the Ghostbusters. Through him, we "becomes" a Ghostbuster. We can kind of live out our childhood fantasy of being a hero, fighting off Gozer and saving the world. And I appreciate that and him. Thanks, Winston.

Winston's the Ghostbuster's common sense man and someone who keeps them in the material plane. He fits right in with the original three because he can keep up with their wackiness and eccentricness, while just being an everyday guy. I've stumbled onto an inevitable, and frankly, unexpected eventuality lately, and that is that Winston Zeddemore is my favorite Ghostbuster. I think people love Bill Murray more than they love Peter Venkman. I mean, he electrocutes people. Everyone loves Ray Stanz and Dan Aykroyd pretty much equally. I think people see Egon and Winston in a similar way - being able to relate to them and being thankful that someone who resembles themselves turns out to be the good guys who become heroes. I don't even know what it is, but there's always been something about Winston that made people realize they could be part of something they didn't think they could. Without giving away any spoilers, I think it's fitting what they did with his character was totally appropriate. Also, do yourself a favor and go see the new movie. I'm so relieved it turned out good. I can't wait to own it on Blu-ray. I might even go see it again for the third time this weekend.

I'm thinking he might have meant 115,000 a year. Based on the story's setting, it be LUDICROUS to contemplate that a group of scientist san winston would entrepreneur a ghostbusting business just to make minimum wage. Especially living in New York. According to the film, they charge customers 4,000 to 5,000 for ghostbusting. Even if the guys split the profit, thats 1,000 to 1,250 for just one work job. Imaging the hours they work a day! Minimum wage dont pay the bills to make all those high tech gadgets.

Always felt it was odd how we don’t see much of him in the promotion posters etc. Ernie Hudson did an interview back in 2014 with The Guardian. “In the script that I read for the audition, Winston is in the film all the way through the movie. But they changed it just before we shot, so I had to wrap my head around that. I think the studio thought they could sell the guys as they were from Saturday Night Live, and so they wanted to include Winston marginally. But then when we came back five years later for the sequel, they did the same thing! That I didn’t understand.” - Ernie Hudson
