This video we found ourselves in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert, gearing up for a 6.5 miles hike through rattlesnake country….barefoot. Why you might ask? Is it because…
It's fun! And we’ve been really bored in the van the last few weeks?
We think we’re really tough and we just want to prove it to all the haters out there?
Reli and Rocky do it all the time so we thought it can't be that hard?
Some mysterious reason you’ll just have to watch to find out:)
We did some prep to toughen up our soft squishy feet, practiced proper rattlesnake protocol in the desert, and set out on our journey.
It was a piece of cake and we accomplished exactly what we set out to…..Or did we?

I walk barefoot everywhere, including the desert. But you have to condition your feet to walk on rough terrain. I applaud you for trying it out. Keep walking barefoot and your souls will toughen up. BTW, people around the world, who walk, barefoot don’t need shoes. Shoes are actually unhealthy. Let people live their lives, barefoot wherever they may be.

You guys, this was excellent! Kudos to Julie for making it that far! I managed to make it about 2 miles on a fairly soft trail in Oregon, hoping my hiking boots would dry a bit from the day before. I put them on wet becaue my feet just weren't up for the challenge. 🤣🤣🤣 I enjoyed this! It brought back those memories and was also just fun to watch. Back in the day in the UK at least they used to use witch hazel to toughen feet that may just be an old wives tale though, I do remember using it or something to prevent blisters on heel when at school

I walk barefoot whenever I can and that includes hiking too. But starting off with such a rocky trail is crazy guys :P That would require a lot of training first. Walking barefoot isn't just about making the skin tougher, but an equally important part is building up stronger muscles in your feet, muscles we don't normally use that much when wearing shoes. They help with better control of weight and pressure distribution while you walk, with keeping balance and can provide better grasp on the surface. Which translates into a much more pleasant barefoot experience overall.

Could you not carry a tourniquet for a bite? I hardly ever wear socks, even used to be barefoot whilst ankle grinding. But the older I get the safer I feel with a little fabric over my tootsie's lol Skating barefoot 😮

Applying a tourniquet actually restricts bloodflow to the bite area, which leads to the tissues dying faster. You can actually get gangrene and nerve damage! We learned that before our hike

Myself as a "barefooter" this vid came up. Some things: Kids have more "fat" under their soles than older adults. It actually diminishes as we age. A big reason why old people have trouble walking barefoot even in their homes. As kids have more fat on their soles- they can go barefoot easier, but (in USA) as they become teenagers and older, they become more self conscious of their wardrobe, and tend not to go barefoot for feeling "weird". Other cultures don't have that problem, and some US teens don't either (beach communities, etc). Then, as (US) people age into their 20's + 30's, they realize they can do whatever they f- the want and may start going barefoot. By 40+ people stop caring what strangers think of them going barefoot, but due to fat loss in their soles, it becomes more difficult to traipse around barefoot. By 50+ people **really** don't care what anyone thinks about them going barefoot, but due to fat loss, it really is difficult to walk barefoot on rough surfaces. Also, age tends to make the feet look more aged and more "distasteful" to look at. Basically, the prime barefooting happens (in the USA) from age 1-13 and again from age 28-40. (my opinion).
