Today we're in Nelson to collect our campervan hire from Motorhome Republic. It's a 2018, 4-6 berth Fiat Ducato Imala and will be our home, car, kitchen and toilet for a lot of our road trip over the remaining episodes of Season 2 Reveal NZ.
When it came campervan hire in NZ we had a bit of a plan already - on our last road trip we spotted these premium looking motorhomes around the campsites and knew that we wanted to check one out the next time we picked up a rental! Beyond glad that we did, it's incredibly comfortable, handles well, has lots of space and plenty of technology as well. In the next video we upload we will take you through a detailed tour of the inside and outside to show what a $150,000 campervan looks like to go vanlife in!
Our road trip begins from Nelson, making our way out to Marlborough, parking up for a bit as we explore into the Marlborough Sounds and then cruise down the east coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

Having lived and worked in Marlborough/Nelson for over 25 years, this really is very familiar. A bit different to where I am at the moment. 2 Weeks ago yesterday, my daughter had a kidney transplant (from me) at Auckland hospital. We have to stay in Auckland until the end of this month while my daughter goes to outpatients first thing every morning for blood tests etc.

@@DanegerAndStacey Thank you. It was my daughters 31st birthday yesterday, so we joke that I gave her her present a few weeks early. And so far the kidney is working very well. She is getting better blood test results than a lot of healthy people with their own kidneys. The doctors are very happy with how she is going and how we are both recovering.

Oh my hat those mussels looked delicious - we're used to just getting black mussel off the rocks here in Cape Town and popping them straight on a braai grid, smacking of the sea! Enjoy your travels in that amazing camper van. Safe driving.

I’m so glad you stopped at Havelock. We stayed in Nelson and stopped there to try the mussels even though we had only just eaten breakfast. There was no way we were going to miss eating them. My favourite was cooked simply in wine.

Great upload guys - just watching all these again whilst having a few Waikato Draughts. Havelock (not to be confused with Havelock North in Hastings)is one of the prettiest spots in NZ - period ! (Well with an exclamation mark). It's a unique setting,so unique,being sort of inland,but with its marina and salt water, and those hills that surround it,but looking out to those sounds ! Another good reason I love the place is the Havelock Hotel sells Waikato Draught - a big win for me any day (There are a number of places around the Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough area that do,no wonder I love the place).

Great video! We are considering a camper van rental in NZ. Waiting to hear back from Motorhome Republic to see if they will rent to a 72 year old. Those mussels looked all kinds of epic, though I have no idea what what Stacey meant at 12:59 with 'extraordinarily gateway'. I did a google search for 'gateway' and Urban dictionary brought up something that I'm 100% sure was not what you guys meant 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 🤣🤣 I wont repeat it on here otherwise I'm sure this comment would get deleted by the KZbin bot!!! 🤷‍♀️ I just picked up a courtesy car (I stopped at a zebra crossing to let someone cross and the van behind me didn't stop 🤦‍♀️... so my car's in a garage being fixed) and it was so scary driving something new. I asked the car rental for something small, but was still freaking out. Meanwhile Dane takes to that gigantic campervan like a duck to water! 🤣💪

We hire from Wilderness, same level of comfort as that one you hired. Amazing huh? I was surprised that you left the gas on while you drive though? We have always been told to turn it off while driving.

We hear great things about Wilderness! You just cant beat these types of campervans, we look at the small transit vans and cant even imagine how people make that work 😂 Yeah Charlie said it was fine so we went with it and had no issues. The Maui one we hired we turned it off while we drove.
