Surprisingly the Haunted House isn't a filler episode! It was one of the first Detective Conan chapters I ever read. Also I can't believe those kids called Conan an NPC 😭

the 80s and 90s in japan and other east asian countries were different, and so was the U.S, personally it felt it was much safer, walking alone day and night for miles to play with friends, party, and do what ever was pretty normal for a child. now days you can still do it in china, there's pretty much no crimes in the cities, so much camras, if any thing happen to you, police can instantly track down the criminal and make an arrest in hrs, most crimes in this show would be impossible to pull off lol. japan is still relatively safe and you can walk alone even as a women most pretty much most areas.

Japan is a lot safer than the US, with really harsh punishments for serious crimes, so it is apparently common to have kids running around unsuprevised. This is probably the reason why the mother has her son locked up. She do not want to risk her son to be sentenced to death instead of prison... Ran's father is called Mori Kogoro in Eastern name order or Kogoro Mori in Western name order. Kogoro is the Given name and Mori the Surname.

edit; because i'm commenting while watching...are you talking about Redd Fox from Sanford and Son? During the finale he did his famous heart attack thing, and no one realized he was really having a heart attack until after they were done filming? Oh did my original comment get taken down?
