We just drove two hours to check out this 1950 Ford Consul that's priced fairly reasonable. The ad says it's stripped to bare metal, no rust, ready to restore, excellent motor, needs interior.

You took that very well Chad, very professional......its mind boggling to experience that. Just like when you see something is advertised 'mint' haha. Noticed you doing the backyard scan as you drove , I always do that when in unfamiliar territory, trying to catch a glimpse of that tailfin or chrome tucked in the yard. Moss in and out of her ! The fellow was so upset that I didn't buy it as he said I told him it was a done deal ,lol and said he drove 5 hrs from the other way as it was his grandpa's and hadn't seen it for awhile , ya I was pissed too .

I recently was looking at a 53 consul runner/driver. It really was relatively "rust free". It was a cool little car for a vintage 4 banger, and the fact that it had "trafficators" was way cool. I ended up walking away from it though because of parts availability. Because when you need say a wiper motor or a wheel cylinder you need it not o crap lets go see if someone happens to have one . Any way cool video I like your "on the hunt" video's just as much as your "in the shop" video's looking forward to your next one.

Man a 53 Consul would be like finding parts for a 66 Mustang compared to the Consul Capri i've got! Even simple stuff like weatherstripping isn't available.. The 50 in the video looks pretty decent to me.Certainly fixable.

@@tomp1612 yea it really didn't look too bad from our angle and the price didn't seem to bad especially doing the canadian to u.s. dollar conversion ( yea i'm in the u.s.) and i guess by going custom and "making things work or creating one's own parts" it was "very dooable." but I was wanting to go with a traditional resto. I would have liked to see that 50 turned into a 2 door though. I think the owner was kinda offended when the 2 door conversion was mentioned lol

Thanks for showing (even the not-so-good), at least we get to see your process. If it's hard for you to see it thru, it would be a hell-of-a-challenge for someone that's not into it 100% It's certainly not rude to lay down, ask for a flash light, and check it out before you get it home.

OK off topic Chad. I keep thinking about that shaker scoop on ol Elvis. I really like the look of it coming up thru the louvered panel with the 1/4 or so gap better then having weilded on it. But it's a lot of time and trial and error to get it spaced right, then hope the engine movement does not cause it to rub at times. Since you cant see the engine anyway, I think if a man was to mount the front to the cross brace with a bolted bracket and pin the back the firewall on both sides it would match the rest of the build, be off the engine, yet look like it was separate, coming thru and part of it. OR put some brackets on each side and front down under and weild them to the louvered pannel underneath which would do the same thing. Either would give the appearance of it coming off the engine, simplifying the build and keeping the spacing around the edge perfect. I've changed from, setting it on the panel, attaching to the engine and now attaching it to the panel with the same look as attached to the engine. Cant wait to see how you do it either way! 😁

So many times with the classic cars people like to misrepresent them. Then when you show up they act like they had no idea. Like they aren’t the one who owns it and never saw the rust or holes or license plates glued over the holes. And they always have a buyer that is ready to pay more than what you are. But they will come down a couple bucks for you. Interesting game we play with the cars!!!

Those old two-door Fords are not that expensive in the states. I've got a pretty decent customline V8 automatic or all original. Not ever repaint it even. He knows what the floorboards look like after setting for years. I know where their peers be even nicer body one only missing the backup lights. It's not that far south of the Canadian border and if you want to use the original paint it's good enough. I don't remember the interior. I can always tell you more information if you happen to read this and you're interested. There's a video that you can view and this one isn't mine. Happy hunting.

Not rust-free, but really not bad, especially for a 72-year-old car in Nova Scotia. It’s LHD - how many were imported into Canada? I’ve always liked the styling of those. Very modern, especially for a 1950 car in the UK. Compare it to a Prefect. I’d restomod it - keep it looking stock on the outside, drop a 2.3 EcoBoost four in it, a six-speed, and coilovers all the way around. Either that or restore it.

My advice from 50 years of buying and selling vehicles. You want to sell a car to get the best price and the most buyers - this is how you do it: take lots of pictures, show the best and the worst. This builds buyer confidence. When the buyer comes and looks, they should not be surprised but impressed with how the vehicle matches the add. If you are a buyer, be prepared to walk away. If you feel something isn't right, walk away. It's your intuition and experience that has picked up on something that your conscious hasn't yet. Could be the buyer's story, strange details on the car, anything.

I’m a bit confused as I have no experience with old cars and metal work. I’ve seen you look at several cars that appeared in decent shape and you turned them down as you said there was just too much work to be done that you weren’t interested in doing. You appear to me to be a master fabricator and I’ve seen you completely transform cars in a very short period of time. I would think that repairing the sills for someone with your skill would be relatively quick and easy. Could you explain in more detail exactly what you look for in a car? Was it just the price and the fact that buddy was misleading with the condition. If buddy accepted your $1000 offer would you have taken it?

I looked at so many cars in my life , they say, ran great, but quit, probably a spark plug, runs fantastic , needs cosmetic tlc. You get there and the frames shot, you can tell the car hasn't moved in years , and the transmission is gone. It won't start because the head is cracked and theres no compression. and water in the oil . A couple were rare enough I said I'll give you x and they go, oh no , my brother in law offered me double that, I say , I would call him immediately, while he is still in love with it. !
