Wonderful memories when I was a young lad, the bench seat, hand brake and column gear change. We had a green Consul Mk1, my Dad bought it from a neighbour for £30!! Strange how certain memories come flooding back. Totally forgot about the foot dip switch. And the ash trays..I used to regularly empty them, press the side, open it, push down the spring metal strip across the middle at the top and pull out. Had more sweet wrappers than dog ends! We stayed with the bench seat theme on buying our dark green ford zodiac MK3. That was my favourite car. Thanks for the video gentleman, always uplifting. It’s when I am reminded of such vehicles I’m glad I am of a senior age to have witnessed (though not appreciated it at the time) such wonderful British cars. Oh yes…Radio Luxembourg…modern music of an evening though sometimes faded away with whistles and morse code bleeding through. Sometimes rectified with a slight turn of the knob Wonderful times. Thank you

Bob you legend, when they said you had a 'console' , I thought they meant a PlayStation 5. This is actually less surprising. Great video.

Beautiful car. This was my Dad's last car in 1956 before he died in a flying accident. He loved and cherished it. I still remember the registration number which was PBH508. It too was in black. I remember as a very small boy riding in it with Dad and Mum and it was so comfortable with that front bench seat.

@@datbs Thank you for your kind remark. I really enjoyed your interesting video. I was only 6 years old at the time and Dad was 32 when his aircraft crashed in bad visibility at Blackbushe Airport in 1956. He was one of the crew bless him.

@@datbs It would be great to own one but unfortunately where I live in a cul de sac there just wouldn't be the room as my garage is full and my drive and front garden are occupied with two cars.

Wonderful!! Our 1955 Consul was just the same, except it had orange indicators on the rear. We let it go in 1970 as the sills had rusted. The vacuum wipers were a bit of a pain, but what a lovely car.

The second car of my dad, after my mum forced him to get rid off his first; a VERY petrol hungry Cadillac. (''This beast is eating up our children's food!) But unfortunately the Ford Consul was so rusty, that it fell through its rear axle.

My older brother’s first car was a zephyr of the same model. A nice car but we had to get out and ‘untangle’ the gear shift mechanism every ten miles or so in city driving. We had the old beast up to 85 mph on the Geelong to Bacchus Marsh road with everything shaking like crazy. We could have gone faster but were worried about bits falling off.

Sounds like the gear links & steering joints were worn out, wheels not balanced or prop gone. Nothing should shake to bits, there should be no vibrations whatever.

Really great cars, my parents had a MK 1 Consul, when I was a young man, very reliable, just had to change the clutch, they weren’t diaphragm in those days, it was used everyday, parents went to Scotland on holiday, when they returned , I took it hot of the drive with my mates straight down to Cornwall with a huge ARMY tent. It never missed a beat. A very smooth square bore engine, it revd up to valve bounce too easily with a heavy foot. Good solid cars held a straight line with total ease & very easy to drive.

don't get the fuel hose stuck in the filler neck (they are fatter now) or scratch the paintwork, easily done on these rare entry fords, my brother had a MK3 Zodiak and that had the oblong speedo and column change with bench seats, was it 3 or 4 gears, I've forgotten now, I think it was 3,
