I loved Iceland. I lived there in 1967-68. I went through 5th and 6th grade at Keflavik Naval Station. It was our best overseas experience. I remember the mud pots, the geysers and the hot springs. No where in all the world are the Waterfalls as beautiful. We climbed an "Inactive Volcano" that actually blew a year or so after we left. Our car was so old that it didn't have a real floor in the back where the 3 of us kids sat. It had a board to cover the holes. One of the most memorable places we saw was Whale Bay. It was an active whaling station we were there. We got to watch them cut up the blubber from the whale. The water ran red with blood and the seagulls dove into the water to catch the excess. At night when the Aroura Borealis was visible I'd take a blanket outside lay it on the snow. Play the radio and watch the lights dance to the music. Sweet memories. (Except for the smell of the fish drying racks). We lived next to a pumas field and I often walked through there to get pieces big enough to carve. My Mom had those for years, but my nephews didn't understand their importance and played with them till they broke. I hope you loved your visit as much as I did.

When I lived there, one of the main foods was Lamb. I hate lamb. But unless I was on base, I got a lamb-burger instead of a hamburger or a lamb dog instead of a hot dog. In the '60s only the main road to Reykjavik was paved everything else was dirt rocky roads. And yes, we often had to drive through the streams. I hope you got to see the different birds around the island. The Artic turns and the Puffins. If you went to the coast, the sand is black. Thank you so much for the memories.

Hahahaaaaa standard shift dilemma. The SAME thing happened to us test driving a 6-speed 2017 Mustang. It was my husband's turn to drive her and 10 minutes later we couldn't figure out how to get her in reverse. Finally called the dealer and asked what the secret was. Yep, needed to lift the silver collar on the stick shift. I did buy the car and love driving a standard shift again.

i could not pronounced any of the words in Iceland either, don't feel bad. I did suspect that there was a lot of geothermal bodies of water. That church is amazing, and how in the world till they get those pipes for that organ up there is a mystery to me, and many others. That grocery store with the pig on it, first thing I thought of was Piggly Wiggly. They had a Piggly Wiggly Store in Mineral Wells, Texas where my mom's mom and my dad's parents lived for a long time. His parents moved there when he was in 3rd grade, and my mom her mom moved there (Mineral Wells) when she was in 8th grade. My parents met in high school and got married in a church in Mineral Wells. We visited Mineral Wells, Texas many times growing up, as our cousins, Dad's sister's kids, visited with my grandparents with us. Our grocery stores can take a lesson by widening the aisles a bit more, and stop putting stuff in the aisles, not enough room. When you rent a vehicle in Europe, it will most likely be a manual shift, and I am sure other countries have mostly manual shift cars. I have not driven one in years, and I have not missed it. I had a stick shift more than once, two different vehicles, and I was not fond of driving one. Iceland is a pretty interesting place as I can see from your video. Thank you for taking us along on your trip to Iceland.
