It's been a while since it's been just the boys, so with the boss gone, it was time for the bachelor boys to enjoy a little adventure. We ended up buying the most expensive old monk, climbing to the highest temple in the Girnar Hills and exploring the city of Junaghad. Continuing our journey across India till mum gets back.
Located at the foot of Girnar hills, It is nestled against some of the most impressive topography in Gujarat, It’s an ancient fortified city with 2300 years of history called Junaghad. Most Hindu pilgrims stay here before they set out on their journey to the ancient sacred Girnar hills which is of great significance as they scale 9999 stone steps to the peak. Now this can also be done by a Gandola Ride (Cable car - Rope way). The originally 5 hour long journey can now be cut short by taking a cable car which reaches in 9 min costing Rs 630/- for a return trip.
They saw volcanic eruption caused the creation of these 5 peaks and temple has been built on them. the Amba Mata temple, Guru Goraknath temple, Dattatrey temple, Oghad peak and Kalika temple, each dedicated to some God and Goddess, the climb to these summits is exhaustive, but there are porters who carry you on the dholis who cannot face the walk, charging you some fee. There is an abundance of food and refreshment stalls along the way and entertainment at the summit. The place is picturesque and you can take photographs everywhere along the trail, but not inside the sacred temples. The ancient Uparkot fort located in the east side of the city was built during the reign of Maurya emperor, but the fort was abandoned from the 7th to 10th century as it was completely overgrown by jungle until it was rediscovered again. The Mahabat Maqbara Palace is a stunning place having an entry fee of just Rs 20/- is a fusion of Euro-Indo-Islamic architecture and was built by the Diwan of Junagadh, the central dome is surrounded by a variety of smaller domes, the tall windows with french design represents the influence of western culture, the doors and windows reflect the Gothic European style, there are great carvings on the inside and outside of the Maqbara.
The Willingdon Dam at the foothills of Girnar was constructed in 1933 as a reservoir for fresh drinking water for the people of Junagadh, the dam was named after Lord Willingdon, the then Governor of India.
We enjoy our stay at the fern, got some spa time, swam a little and got some rest. Before buying the most expensive Rum, Rs 1500 plus 275 licence fee[ 65% vat ] legally in Gujarat (once a dry state) .
