This is the sort of home I love seeing because it's simply impossible to replicate. The history, the art, the grounds, the lifetimes it takes to build up a castle like this, it requires so much more than money. You can't hire a firm to make this. This isn't the next mega mansion made of glass. I love it

False, with enough money you could build the exact same house, fill it with the same stuff and have the same yard anywhere with a similar climate. It was built once it could be built again.

An english viscount once spoke of these estates as being communities, not just a house with rich and their servants. Everyone was considered and cared for down to the lowest maid, if the estate was well managed by a good lord. Homeless were given a room. Unwanted children and orphans were given opportunities usually by the lady of the house. No one was neglected. We forget that these estates were surrounded by miles of forest and wilderness well into the 18th century. They served as places of protection and safety and fun social events, even weddings and funerals. His comments changed my opinion of the aristocracy. as far as the english were concerned, their attitude to their commoners helped preserve social cohesion, stave off revolution and build a happy and powerful nation. Too many believe they were mean and cruel overlords, ruling with an iron fist. If this were the case then the british empire would have died out years ago.

As they say in France, “ Incroyable!” I can’t imagine how someone would have the resources to repair this treasure, much less furnish it (if you can call it furnishing). And then, I look at what it must take to maintain it and clean it. The crystal chandeliers, alone, would take an army. Now I have to look up the history of this place. I was a foreign exchange college student in Normandy; so I am particularly curious.

My first thought as well. To be honest, and that is my opinion, I don't see how it is worth that much. The gardens look exquisite and well kept, but the house itself looks rather dull and old-fashioned. I guess that is the fascination with these types of buildings (castle or medieval structures), they are just not for me, I find them rather boring, and to an extent, creepy.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.” (2:136 / Translated by Community) Salam (Peace) -------

I've been to many house/castle museums, and none have been as decorated, or looked as lived-in. Many museums look like representations of an era, whereas this chateau looks like it teleported from the era. Amazing! It depends on the heirs of Jacques Garcia. I don't think this will become a private estate for a billionaire but stay a museum, either run publically or privately, as it's a monument historique and protected from basically any changes made to basically anything there.

That place isn't owned by anyone; it owns anyone on it. Estimated maintenance?? Amazon sells dust cloths in bulk .... Didn't watch past 10 minutes, but a small problem is, that depending on where you are on the property, it could take you a couple of hours to get to the bathroom, if you don't get lost on the way. Signs would sort of ruin the atmosphere. Does it have a swimming pool? Jacuzzi? Range hood in the kitchen? Which dining room do you want this evening? It's a monument, like someone else here said, a museum.

I hope this place remains the exact same for hundreds of years. I usually don't like the old, traditional interiors of such places but this place just contains too much history and has been so carefully put together that it should remain like a time capsule. Parts of this should be used for films and TV, that grotto would be suitable for crazy things like secret society meetings and parties.

Lovely Château, I love the secret door. I wonder who really owns Château du Champ de Bataille, I don't think an architect, even someone as renowned as Jacques Garcia, could afford to pay for and maintain such an expensive property. Only a multi-billionaire would have enough passive income to purchase, upgrade and maintain this Château. So either Jacques inherited billions from his ancestors or someone incredibly rich is behind the scenes, employing Jacques. From a financial perspective, Château du Champ de Bataille must be a massive financial liability. It would be interesting to know the real story.

ngl I initially rolled my eyes at how absurdly vast and lifeless this property looked at a glance. Then I softened to it after learning someone was keeping it open to the public as a time-capsule / museum of sorts. Then I saw that greenhouse and I wish I could buy the whole damn property right now.😂

The first $100k was the toughest, and I didn't really start seriously investing until I was 30 back in 1998. Today, I'm 55 and have a decent $3.2M nest egg, thanks to the careful supervision of my CFP. After learning all of this, my only regret is not starting earlier when I was 25. It may not seem like much but those extra 5 years are the most important.

This makes 550 S. Mapleton look restrained by comparison. :) You have 40 bedrooms so you need another 10 in the Indian palace... It was very interesting to see, the grounds especially and knowing it dates back to 1651 is the most impressive feature to me - I don't know what changes he's made to it, but it would take an hour just to go over the pieces in the main salon, ballroom, and dining room alone.

Places like this I believe are so unbelievably grand that we can’t really truly wrap our heads around it. Fortunately most of the owners have similiar appreciation for these properties. They spend crazy amounts of money too keep them in a perfect condition, even adding original furniture and decorations from the era. Considering how many of them you can find around Europe, better let them stay private as the combined cost for renovations and maintenance would be staggering even for national budget. Not to mention that many historical sites owned by the country are totally ruined and forgotten, sometimes even intentionally destroyed because of the location.

@@MariachiMak Totally agree. In Spain we lost a ton of monasteries thanks to the "desamortización" (the state confiscated and sold church properties) And the ones that survived intact to this day are precisely the ones that were bought by wealthy individuals as a secondary home. It is truly a sad affair.
