We Like These Gloves, But Are They Waterproof?

Leakdry sent us some waterproof gloves and socks to test, which came just in time for some rainy and wet weather riding. We've seen the ads and tests online where people walk through rivers in just their socks and come out dry on the other end. However, when we ride mountain bikes, we're out in the rain for hours and hours on end, with lots of pedalling and water flying in from all directions. Did we get wet? Sure. But do we still enjoy using them? Actually, yes!

Other than Gore socks I've never found anything that legit keeps my feet or hands "dry" but you hit the nail on the head about products that at least keep your bits "warm"

Hi Friend! It would be great for you to try mine! I don't know if we are the same size but it would be a fun test! (I promise to wash them first) ;-) - M

I tried on some waterproof gloves at bike shops and most of them had two layers, and the outer layer would move somewhat independent of the inner layer, which would feel like throttle grip without it being the grips that moved, so it was a no for me. I got 100% briskers at the recommendation of many people, as unlike their hydro version, they arent waterproof but they are super warm, one of the warmest normal gloves out there, I think make sure I've got my ancient Fox Digit gloves to swap over to when the briskers get wet either from rain or sweat, its good to just take two pair gloves anyways if you have to do alot of climbing to ride your trails, I am often climbing for several hours just to get to a trailhead for some downhill type stuff, its worth it though. As for waterproof footwear, I'm loving the 510 goretex trailcross boot, havent had a cold wet foot yet, and I love the grip so much I just got 510 freeride shoes for the upcoming summer, I'll save my Vans for riding BMX at skateparks.

Great tip! We found that, even when we get a bit wet, the Leakdry gloves and socks keep our hands and feet warm and functioning, which is the important thing. 😊

Love your vids ❤ Sealskin socks and gloves are definitely waterproof. I am riding in all weather conditions and the held up perfectly. Of course the outer layer gets soaked, but my hands and feet are dry. I really don't know, why everyone is doubting, if there are any waterproof clothing at all. There are plenty! Even in budget price range. Okay, water can get in, if it comes through the whole, where you extremities are 😱😜 Also the 100% Brisker Aquamatic or something are also waterproof and a bit warmer. Sure the also soak in even more water and feel like a sponge went clenching your hands 😅

Thanks so much! We've seen videos online with people walking through rivers with waterproof socks and coming out dry, but our experience hasn't been in the same conditions. We wonder if it's because we've been biking for hours in the rain, and water gets in the from the top? Either way, our hands and feet are warm and still function well, and that's good enough for now. 😊

I have gore-tex socks and riding shoes. My feet stayed nice and warm and dry. When I got home, I took my shoes off and there was puddle inside my shoes. The gore-tex worked!?

Thanks for the comment! Define "worked" lol. I don't think in the "Gore-Tex" way there was moisture inside my socks and gloves at the end of the ride. It's understandable given the temperature differential might not have been sufficient to wick the moisture out. Also, where would it go? Into my very unbreathable riding shoes? I used to surf and this is exactly how my wet suit worked. A thin layer of warm water kept me warm and able to keep going, expanding the rideable hours in the year in our West Coast climate, for sure. - M

@@HardtailLifeI used to surf also. Surfed once in late Feb around Tofino, the first 10 minutes was very uncomfortable. By worked I mean, my feet were kept dry. I usually wear a merino wool ankle sock with the goretex sock over it. Looking forward to seeing you ride the Big Smooth. No Pressure.
