We love Efteling! In this video, we talk all about our first trip to Efteling Theme Park back in 2019. We watch back footage we recorded on our little camera and share our favourite moments and rides from this incredible Theme Park located in Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands.
We talk about food, Symbolica, Baron 1898, Joris en de Draak, The Flying Dutchman, Vogel Rok, Droomvlucht and more.

I live a 15 minute drive from this theme park. My girl, my children and I have an annual subscription to “De Efteling”. It’s quite expensive but man, do they love it 😊. And sometimes my girl and I do together for a few hours for some rounds in “de baron”. With a subscription you can go without spending all day. Awesome, nice and clean theme park 👍

It sure is good. But the composer of most of the music had to go to court and only won a lawsuite last year to get his rightfull money on playing the music, which is for me the one and only time the Efteling failed to show good manners.

I've been growing up with Efteling. I remember still the time when it started mostly as a fairy tales park. From the start there was the magic mostly introduced by the Dutch artist Anton Pieck. This man's printed artwork shows the same detailing you two spoke about. I believe the special feel of Efteling is kept by staying true to the original work of Anton Pieck while turning the park into a bunch of modern attractions. I still recognize and feel the amazement I felt 55 years ago. I've been raised with it and so have my now adult daughters. I've relived my childhood memories of Efteling through there eyes. It makes me feel warm and exited even now. You've started building your memories with Efteling. I hope you will feel the same as I do, having reached my age. Thanks for this vlog!

Fully agree......If you just "google" Anton Pieck and view the images, you will definitely recognize how Efteling has adopted his work and applied it all the way throughout the park.... Obviously he story about Anton Pieck will provide more context...... :-)

Ever since I was a kid (grew up in the 80's) I've been to The Efteling many, many times. With family, school trips, friends and even colleagues from work. Still I go there almost once every one or two years with my little niece and nephew and almost every time there is something new. It's so hart warming to see them excited about some of the older sights and attractions I used to be amazed about when I was a kid myself. The Efteling will always have a special place in my heart!

Thanks for the nice video! I enjoyed watching it. I live nearby the Efteling and go every month. Almost every time I get there , I see something I don't think I've seen before. There are so many details that your eyes and ears are lacking, it's great! It motivates to search for the hidden figures. That's why it makes me happy to hear that you want to go every year. You will always come across something new that surprises you time and time again. Maybe we will meet in the park, otherwise I am looking forward to the next Efteling vlog ;) Goodbye! So cool that you guys are so enthusiastic. As other responders here, I too have been going to Efteling since I was a little girl. In the seventies, almost every wednesday afternoon I rode on my bicycle to the Efteling. Within 20 minutes I was there. Always loved it. Have even worked there one season, wheb they still had opening seasons from april till september (I believe). Working there took the magic away for me for a couple of years, I must admit. But now I'm almost 50 and get a warm heart when I think about it. My heart starts jumping.. The Aquanura watershow is beautiful. I get emotional watching it. It's a beautiful ending to a beautiful day there. Can't wait to see your next Efteling video. Take care!

I grew up with Efteling and as a result when I see things about Disneyland it just looks so plastic and fake. At Efteling things are build from real stone and it has so much detail in every corner. You can see it was build by people who love their job and know it may be discovered by people for decades. Also I never had to wait long for rides while in Disney you may wait for hours for one ride, I think that will reduce your enjoyment a lot.

@marchel9322
@marchel9322 3 жыл бұрын
Iflie you claim you never had to wait in Efteling. Well, everybody has to wait. Ofcourse when you are able to visit outside peek times you won’t, but that is the same in every other park and most people don’t have that option. Efteling is the same as every other park, you just have to wait.
@Iflie
@Iflie 3 жыл бұрын
@@marchel9322 It's not, it's rarely that busy which is what you see if you compare Efteling videos right here on youtube. Then compare it with stories of Disneyland/world. They always have to wait for hours for every ride, unavoidable. It's also not that hard to go outside of peek days, especially as an adult you just have to pay a little attention.

So glad you liked it!! I love the whole European nostalgic atmosphering the Efteling has. If you look up Anton Pieck, he’s one of the groundlayers of the park, you can recognize sooo much of his work from the park! I love that too. I’m also glad that you guys looked up a few things beforehand. Like the carrousel, most people skip it because they think bleh just a boring carrousel. But if you think about how old it actually is... that just makes it so amazing. Another simple fact that most people that are visiting from outside the Netherlands dont see is that everything (well, a lot) written in dutch, is written in rhymes and old Dutch language. That just makes it extra nostalgic. Loved to watch the review!

Thanks so much for this lovely comment! Since we got back from Efteling I've been looking up Anton Pieck's artwork, it's so beautiful and I'm really glad they stayed true to his vision even up to this day. We're big fans of heritage rides and the history of parks in general, so seeing that carrousel really blew us away. So cool about how everything is written in rhymes and old dutch, really shows you how they think of every little thing. I had the most fun at the Efteling when there was a storm forecasted and everybody was asked to leave the park. First thing we did was running to the far end of the park and then slowly moved to the entrance/exit, but not before we had a final ride in every attraction haha we saw 😂

I live in Belgium, it's a 2 hour drive to the the Efteling from where I live, but it is totally worth it! I try to go twice a year because the park looks totally different in winter time and in summertime. It's been my favorite park since I was about 11 years old. And now, since I have my drivers licence I try to share the magic of the Efteling by taking my friends and family on a daytrip or a weekend. Also the accomodations (hotels, little houses) are wonderfull to try out!

So much fun to see how people enjoy Efteling. We live really close to the park and go at least once a month just to enjoy the ambiance, always doing a few rides and a bit of strolling through the park. When I'm in my backyard I can hear the steam train whistle and sometimes even the music from Aquanura and the big bell from the Baron. Love this park!

Efteling is my favourite theme park, it's great to see that you had such a lovely time there. It's a bit strange to hear it pronounced without "The" though. In Dutch we say "De Efteling", apparently the English name drops the The? "Special" frites is a Dutch thing, not just an Efteling thing. And you can have special sauce (mayo / curry / onions) with other snacks as well. A classic one, and my favourite is the frikandel speciaal :). On George and the Dragon: I heard that Efteling went to great lengths to ensure both lines have approximately equal chance of winning, and I have seen both sides win. It all depends on the loadout and distribution of passengers. My favourite is Water as it seems a bit more intense than Fire. It's a shame that you did not have a chance to go on Fata Morgana when you were there. Although quite old it is still a very good, very well-themed darkride. It won prizes for the quality of its animatronics back when it was built in 1985 or thereabouts. Did you know that Gondoletta (the boat ride briefly visible at 11:45) is the prototype for the boats in Fata Morgana? They built it to test the cable system that is used to propel the boats through the water and decided to keep it as it turned out to be quite popular.

Very nice video and story! Glad you enjoyed our national pride parc and got enchanted by it. Here's some local footage you may be interested in: The fairy tail section was designed on commission by Anton Pieck, a dutch painter famous for his nostalgic fantasy drawings of Holland. Additional attractions for older children came later and were mostly not by Anton Pieck but, as you noticed, they were and every attraction still is, kept in a similar style and mood. Nice to know: The fairy story of the water lilies, that is the story itself, was written by the then queen of Belgium, queen Fabiola. What is nice about it, imo, it that initially it tends to be somewhat scary to the little children with the witch and all, but then as the elves start dancing there is beautiful happy music uplifting all the little children's hearts. In winter Efteling is open, and all the figures are dressed differently with shawls and caps for the cold. Frequently, not every year but every few years, there is a new attraction. Your video lists a few I haven't seen yet! Most of the trees you see from the air is land that is owned by the Efteling, and can be used either for vacation houses or future attractions or otherwise. Thanks for the video and hope you get a chance to return there, maybe in another season. When corona is over, it is advised to check their website first for days that have the fewest visitors to shorten your waiting list!

Been at the Efteling at least 10 times. As a kid with my parents, with friends, with school (as a teacher) and the most beautiful time of all: when the supermarket brand that I worked for at that time (during my studying years) celebrated its 50th anniversary we had a Saturday evening in the Efteling only for the people that worked for that supermarket. So it was really quiet that evening, could go into every attraction very quickly. And: all the food was for free... :)

We have also been to Euro Disney and we also love that a lot, and there are definite similarities between the two, but I think if there would exist a person that never knew Disneys work and never knew either of the parks and then compared them, I'm afraid Efteling would be in favour. I think what you were calling 'the law behind efteling' which makes everything look so authentic and cohesive is because of the influence of Anton Pieck. He was the first designer of the park and you can see his style everywhere around you, the buildings, the restaurtants, the playgrounds for the kids, the decoration, everything. Though they have other designers now, they really try to stay true to that romantic fairytale style. I think that's indeed what makes Efteling so special, that they carry this theming throughout the whole park. And btw, as a Dutch kid I really knew almost all of those classic fairy tales. I was brought up with the classics more than with Disney. I was so excited when they added the 'little match girl' because that was one of my favourites as a kid (don't ask me why). I've seen Americans calling some aspects of the park quite dark because of these classic fairytales, I guess they compare it with Disney or aren't used to it. But I was glad you guys pointed out how cute the figures are and that the fairytale forest is an absolute dream for children all around the world.

`Fairytail Forest is based on the drawings of Anton Pieck. He was a famous Dutch illustrator. We stil have at home a big fairytail book with his drawings. It's so gret to see those pictures come to life in that forest. Throughout life shows and themes appear and dissapear. Land of Laaf, last time I've visited the Efteling, there was hardly anything left of it. I still have their peculuar drink glasses. To use them correctly, you actually have to have small holes in your table. They sometimes also reuse old buildings that used to house a different show. It gets redone inside to serve for a different show or get a new function all together.

People who worked with him for long years and his own diaries make no mention of it. Much more important though, glad you enjoyed your time at the Efteling! :D
