WE LOVE ISLAND DRIVES - JOIN US IN THE AZORES - Pico Island - Portugal's dramatic scenery Episode 33

Hi Guys!
On this episode we take you with us on a drive along the dramatic coast of beautiful Pico Island; one of the 9 island of the Azores, Portugal. We will experience winding roads, higher altitude, coastal villages, blue ocean, abundant green flora: all on this magical drive.
We also cut through the island's higher plateau on the way back to home base located in the seaside village of Lajes. At the end of our drive we stop for a late lunch at a cool restaurant called Sal E Brasa; located just outside of the village. While at the restaurant we had the pleasure of meeting the local talking parrot Jasmine. She would not stop talking; very funny.

Carlos, Thanks for the video, I too left Pico in 1974 (January) for California, so I must have also been on the boat “Espalamac” because my Mother said the seas where very rough on the voyage to Faial for our flight to the states.

Nice drive, the little towns are so clean , no junk , so nice to see. Loved the talkative loud bird at the last . It reminded me of a Cockatoo my grand mother owned . It used to scream like a women in distress and people would actually stop their cars to investigate.

If you don’t like the colour green ... don’t go to Acores ... but if you do, it’s a wonderland of green eye candy. One of my favourites when I go to the islands is the clean fresh air which make the environment smell great ( cow dung exception fields exemption ) . I hope in future you do more road trips, miradouros, restaurant food, and places and things of interest.

Me and my family went to Magma twice when we were on vacation there in 2019. My grandpa owns a house just east of Santo Amaro that you can see form the restaurant. Hopefully we will be there again this summer.

I loved the views. Laura, in your short rendition of Country Roads you sounded like Shania, with just a bit of Celine. Good job. Laura, you said "here's the other side of Santa Cruz", as you were looking down from a viewpoint. I tried to find Santa Cruz on Google Maps but I was sent to Ribeiras. I gather that you started in Madalena and followed the ER1 on the south side of the island. Did you take the EN2 crossing the island when you left the coast? That must be interesting as it looks like it passes near the volcano. Finally, this video was fantastic. It is just what I wanted to see. Good job guys.

This drive started from Lajes; same main road that comes from Madalena ER1. Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara are part of Ribeiras. Laura can sing various types of songs; including songs from the ones you mentioned. Take care! Ray

nice trip. just outside of Sao Roque, try adega A Barca. Its a museum of old time items and they have great liquor. and you can make arraignment an old time dinner. that Pool, They were just finishing it as I was leaving in 2016, You passed very close to my house in Sao Roque.

@@mrluckyuncle It all comes down to supply, demand and the value someone gives to the specific property, area, island etc. There is still affordable Real estate on all 9 islands. One thing I have noticed in the last 10 years; if it wasn't for foreigners or immigrants coming back, half of the homes would be in ruins. I am also sure that the locals that sell there home for a good price don't mind it. You can never make everyone happy! Just my observation. Take care David!
