George Benson is an American guitarist, singer, & songwriter. He began his professional career at the age of 19 as a jazz guitarist. He covers different genres or styles such as jazz, pop, R&B & scat singing. His Breezin' album was one of the biggest selling of all time. He has such a smooth mellow voice. He has had so many great hits both singing & instrumental such as "This Masquerade", "On Broadway," "Breezin'", "The Greatest Love Of All", "Give Me The Night", "Love All The Hurt Away," "Turn Your Love Around," "Inside Love," "Lady Love Me," "20/20," "Shiver," "Kisses In The Moonlight", "Affirmation" etc.

Ain't it great, Clarence? I LOVE this music, and it is great to witness young people discovering and appreciating what gave us so much joy! It was a great time for music, optimism, and a naive materialism (foolish, but sort of fun).

God I feel old saying this, but music was so much damn better in the Eighties! I guess i'm just too old now, because old guys used to say the same thing in the Eighties, "music was so much better in the 1950s!" When they said that, I just thought to myself, "no it wasn't, old guy!" But now here I am doing the same damn thing! 😣

Mike Miller. Yes, that is the defining characteristic of his music for me. It sets him so far apart from other guitarists. His talent on the guitar is phenomenal and the singing of the licks in unison doubles the impact of the notes for me. That’s the best way I have to say it. BTW, I have that album!

Great song. George was one of the standout R&B singers of the late70's and most of the 80s. Some of his other great tunes include "Turn Your Love Around", "Inside Love", and "Lady Love Me (One More Time)". SO.... yeah, the guy sang a lot of love songs. But for your next one, I HIGHLY recommend "On Broadway". It's a classic. And, to Amber's last comment... yes. We are cool. Every one of us. :)

80's was a time before the gov't and media didn't work 24/7 to separate everyone. Well they did but they didn't have the internet and 3000 channels to blast it everyday. We definitely had our problems but we had them together. crazy hair styles, clothes and music. A lot less judgment and a lot more fun. just my opinion from someone who has been through it. Love the channel. Keep up the great work!

Totally agree, add me to the list. And we lived through tougher times than now. Our parents and Grandparents dealt with some very tough times by comparison. We were blessed and likely held together by the great music, even though we didn't realize just how good it was until, well modern music came to show us. When I'm being one of those "back in my day" kinda guys I hear a song like Give Me the Night and am clearly reminded...yes indeed, Back in My Day was something better.

I have to agree. As a kid growing up in the 70s and early 80s, our worlds were a lot smaller and our neighborhoods were a lot bigger. The conomy was tough for lots of people. Interst rates were sky high. Crime was really bad in the cities, kidnappings, serial killers, but that didn't stop us from having fun. There were definitely lots of problems but among the biggest divisive subject I remember among young adults was Disco or Rock? That was a huge division. Other than that, it seemed like everyone liked roller skates, riding bikes, cruising, hanging out in the parking lot w the car radio blasting, smokin in the boys room, playing ball or swimming at the park, having fun. The 70s and 80s were largely about having fun with other people. Outside. Nobody stayed home unless they were sick. Even older people did things like bowling, bingo night at the church, playing pool, hangin out at the neighborhood bar.

The history behind this song is so deep. So it was written by the British composer Rod Temperton who wrote, Thriller, Rock With You and many more for MJ. He also wrote Boogie Nights, Always & Forever, Gangsters of the Groove, and many more for the band he was in, Heatwave and wrote hit after hit. Sweet Freedom for Michael Mcdonald, Yah Mo Be There again, Michael Mcdonald and James Ingram. Stomp for the Brothers Johnson. The Carpenters, Klymaxx, Mica Paris, Wayne Hernandez, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Donna Summer and so many more artists. The backing singer on this track was Patti Austin (a female Friday one for you) whom he wrote Baby Come to Me for (duet with James Ingram) the following year after this. Rod Temperton was a musical genius but not many people are aware of his existance but thanks to you guys, his music lives on. x

George Benson is one of my favorite jazz guitarists. This song was written by Rod Temperton, who was the driving force behind the group Heatwave - which is a band y'all have GOT to listen to. He also wrote "Off The Wall", "Rock With You", "Thriller" for Michael Jackson, "Stomp" for Brothers Johnson, "Spice of Life" for Manhattan Transfer, and "Razzmatazz" for Quincy Jones, among many other songs. George really put soul into this recording. Y'all should also give the cover by Randy Crawford a listen.

George Benson is just seriously...one of the greatest jazz guitarists ever. If there is an Eddie Van Halen of jazz, jazz fusion, and r&B guitarists, George is it. And he is in a class all his own. As much as I love his voice...when his fingers fly up and down a fret board, he is sublime. My personal favorite Benson song..."Turn Your Love Around". But...he has so many that I am seeing other people mention. Although, I will say his rendition of "On Broadway" is also amazing, and opens one of my favorite films, Bob Fosse's 'All That Jazz'. All that happens is a dancers' cattle call audition for the chorus of a Broadway musical and how it plays out as George sings "On Broadway"...but the visuals and the song convey a magic as the film begins.

A legendary jazz guitarist genius. I had this album in the 80's and an older one called Breezin'. He's soooo good. This cool jazz tune made it on radio charts back in the day. Never gets old!

George Benson humming along with his guitar licks are his trademark. He crossed over in the mid 80s. Singing more. The album “while the City Sleeps” is my fave. Nice ballad “too many times” , a banger “teaser” with heavy bass and horns that showcases George’s considerable vocal pipes, and the more pop sounding “while the city sleeps”. Something for everyone.

I am Polyjamorous! Mostly love rock and metal but spent my childhood listening to pop and soul music. I loved George Benson his scatting and his jazz guitar! He was my first concert that i bought a gig ticket for back in the early 90s. Love his jazz soul pop and his r and b songs! The man is a genuine legend!

I’m so glad you did this. George Benson is quite amazing and is often overlooked and under appreciated. He’s an amazing guitarist with a beautiful voice. Fun fact: he was a child prodigy who played his first paid gigs at age 8!! Wonderful artist who definitely deserves more attention. 🌺✌️

This song was from the late 70’s and he was the king of R&B, Disco, jazz, dance. I was on the roller rink floor in the 80’s doing tricks to this. Miss it.

The category is " smooth jazz", when it came out in 1976 it topped the jazz, pop, and R&B charts!! It was around his 15th album!! The name of the album is " Breezin " the title song is another one worth listening to!!!

First off...I love your channel. You both have the best personalities and have the same appreciation for music that I have. George Benson is the bomb! I play the bass guitar; how about that funky bass?! Also, you two are looking good! Amber is looking fit! Peace and love to you both. 💌

That female backing vocal drives me crazy. It sounds so ecclesiastical. It reminds me of the vocals on the main theme from the UK TV show, something like "All Gates And Garters". I can't remember the actual name for some reason. Man I love this song. It takes me back to my childhood, it is so precious that I try to not listen to this too often. A perfect track in my opinion.

This was a tape that I wore out and replaced! George is the Best. You must listen to the entire album. It's full of hits! Transported back to the day when I had tons of 80s hair, wore spike heels and mini skirts! George is a jazz master. You will be hooked and will love going down this rabbit hole. I was in the Navy when this was our jam! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Happy new year and know your "family" on KZbin adores you! Next suggestion by George, "Turn your love around ". This will make you jealous of our "coolness" for sure. Love you two!

Honestly, I have never heard this song before and consider it a travesty that we didn't hear George playing hardly any guitar! Benson is a monster guitar player who started out in jazz. The GB10, George Benson Series guitar, was introduced in 1977 by Ibanez and was their first artist signature guitar model.
