Joan Crawford is judged unfairly largely on the basis of two media: "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane," and "Mommie Dearest." Her entire canon features a woman of immense drive and talent, and it is telling that her biggest rival, Bette Davis, spoke up for her after that one-sided book was published. Joan's legacy is deserving of a much more informed reading than what she has been given.

You know how people spoke about her even her friends I think basically they were jealous that she got what she got on her own it was her looks her body and she didn't care

Joan Crawford was BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED, COURAGEOUS (when she left MGM after 18 years) and a very shrewd business woman at PEPSI !! She was loyal and very kind to close friends - for example William Haines when MGM canceled his contract. She helped him establish his interior decorating business. That's many hats to wear, and she wore them proudly !! Bravo Joan !!!!

So what if nothing has been proved? Are you serious with that comment? So what if a person has been accused of abusing her own children by the public, without any proof. My God, what a statement to make. So what if someone has been put on public trial without any real formal evidence. Joans adopted daughter knew her mother would sue her and take her to court if she had released that book before her death, it took no "courage" at all, it just took greed and jealousy envy of her mothers fame.

FromA2mee You clearly haven't heard what Christina Crawford said about the film. A) She said the movie was mostly fiction and that the script writters added A LOT of things in that never happened B) She said she never actually got beaten with wire hangers...If the daughter that Joan "beat up" as you say, say's the above about the film, then you clearly haven't learnt that you shouldnt believe everything you see in movies..Her other two daughter's say her mother was wonderful too then, and close friends, co workers, and husbands of Joan say Christina is a liar. You really need to reasearch and look at both sides before you open your mouth. But judging by your photo, you seem very young, and have time to learn this things are you mature...hopefully.
@FromA2mee11 жыл бұрын
Ok, just cause' she wasn't beat with wired hangers doesn't mean she wasn't beat or that the other things didn't happen to her. Ok, not everything happened from the movie, but the woman seemed like a real nut.
@665kk11 жыл бұрын
It was common practice for parents in the 1940s to slap their children as a way to discipline btw so it's likely her kids were spanked once in a while...I was spanked too as a kid but I wouldn't call that abuse. And she didn't seem like a nut at all by reading biographies or reading what friends had to say.
@FromA2mee11 жыл бұрын
Friends don't always know what goes on behind closed doors..and if she was just spanked and nothing else, they wouldn't have made a movie...even if some of it is fiction.
@665kk11 жыл бұрын
FromA2mee Those who were behind those closed doors with Joan knew like her husbands and secretaries, etc. Well of course, that's why Christina added more to the book. Her husband helped Tina get the film deal, and was very supportive of the whole thing and helped Tina when she got her bad stroke soon after (karma?) but later asked for a divorce because he began to question Christina's credibility and didn't want to live with the lies anymore..I know this because my uncle was friends with him.
@FromA2mee11 жыл бұрын
When I say behind closed doors, I mean when friends are not around. let's just agree to disagree.
@FromA2mee12 жыл бұрын
So what if nothing has been proved as far as abuse claims, she told everyone "herself" what her mom was like, so what if it was after she died, maybe she loved her mom even though she had issues and didn't want to say anything about her while she was alive, because she didn't want to hurt her. She was tortured that little girl, she finally had the courage to tell people what her mom did as far as I'm concerned.
@paulo3966713 жыл бұрын
Mommie Dearest...........despites being a diva, the insanity was shown.
@FromA2mee12 жыл бұрын
you also said something stupid if that's what you're going to say about what i said. You said that if she released the book when her mother was alive, that her mother would sue her. That doesn't mean that she was "lying" about anything, it means she couldn't tell the truth until that shameful woman was dead or she'd be sued. And do you really think the daughter would win? I don't think so unfortunately
@juicyfruit3827 жыл бұрын
Yes we all loved and knew her in front of the camera. But did anyone know her behind closed doors living with her like Christina did? We will never know. But I think Christina opening up about her side of the events brings to light a very real problem. Her being an advocate against child abuse is always going to be a good thing in my eyes!
