Sri Rahayu is making sure that Nyaru Mentengs 80 orangutanbabies are having a good life and that they take their first steps towards becomming released at Nyaru Mentengs forest school. Sri, you so clearly love those orangutans, and they so clearly love you back. If only I can get a 30-day reprieve from aches and pains, and come to where you are to cuddle with and love them, too. if you against about "cage", you need to learn orangutan first before you against it., put orang utan outside cage when in quarantine area, same with put your dog in the forest alone or put the fish outside the aquarium., orang utan is not monkey, we even never call them animal, cause the name is "orangutan=people in forest", when they're in quarantine, they need to be safe, even if you open the cage, they will back to the cage at the night, just like humans baby, they can't learn by their own self when they lose their mother since child, i have one solution for you, if you don't like they put orangutan in cage, so give them a hotel to put orangutan there, they lose habitat cause arrogance peoples entire the world need palm oil (for your food, make-up, soap, chocolate, etc, etc), this foundation is charity foundation, at least they already do something to help, how bout you??

Exactly. Also people need to understand that these are young orangutans. Mother orangutans take care of their young and teach them the ways of the forest all the way up until around 4-5 years of age. Without their mothers they are helpless. By keeping them in the cage at night they are keeping them safe.

H Rop,Yes exactly mother Orangutans keep the baby/child with them until about the average age of 7/8ish some go at 6 some at 8. By which time the juvenile has learned everything she or he needs to know to survive on thier own from mom . But the mother let's the child stay close for upto a year. Usually by this time mom has a new baby and puts all her time into caring for the young one. Keeping the babies( not real young babies they are just as helpless as young human babies( baby orangutans are totally helpless to about 7 months old at about this age they can climb awkwardly but they have a vice like grip and are reasonably strong. They know how to chew and eat hard foods) And infants in the cages overnight is the only feasible option for the carer's. The cages are relatively easy to build and don't cost a lot to buy( building a full sanctuary and hiring the staff needed to run the facilities would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds/dollars) The carer's probably stay in the same building as all the things that the orangutans need. Like food preparation area,the medical area, nursery etc. The cages will also help with the rehabilitation of the babies and infants. They are not indoors (so they don't become acclimatised to sleeping and being safe indoors) which would freak them out when left outside alone ( the carer's slowly acclimatise the babies to the outside cages by putting them in cages with about 3 to a cage having them close to the other orangutans. They do this slowly leaving them alone a little everyday until they become comfortable to being left alone with the others overnight). The carer's are doing all they can. But it costs a lot to take care and rehabilitate the orangutans, so they need all the financial help they can get.
