This is another great British group from the 60's during the Merseybeat scene. They had a lot in common with The Beatles as they both came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein, and were recorded by George Martin. They had a lot of great hits such as "How Do You Do It?", "I Like It", You'll Never Walk Alone", "Ferry Cross the Mersey" & "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying". Sadly the lead singer Gerry Marsden died this year.

Pronounced like Jerry & the pacemakers-their other huge ballad-Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying is also worth a listen as is their uptempo tune I Like It and How do You do It. Another huge British band-the Dave Clark five-has a deep rabbit hole-a group that rivaled the Beatles in 1964. Hits of theirs include Glad all Over, bits and Pieces, Because, any Way You Want It, Come Home, I like It Like That,Over And Over, reelin And Rockin, At the Scene and You Got What It Takes-they had the most appearances on the Ed sullivan show which launched the Beatles in the US.

I was 5 yes old when this song was realised. It another great song from the Merseybeat and along with the Beatles, Cilla Black etc. It is another song from the iconic sixties. It is about his love of Liverpool and the River Mersey in NW England. It brings back such good memories for me, as a child. Things were so much simpler back then. I am now 63 and brings a tear to my eye.

The Mersey beat, emanating from Liverpool, England, was the foundation for the British Invasion of the American music scene, beginning with the Beatles in 1964. Goodbye to innocence and conformity - hello to change. The 1960s were all about change (Vietnam, Civil Rights, Hippies, Drugs, Feminism, loud colors, etc., etc.)

Don't let the sun catch you cryin'. I'm just sayin' Also Rickie Lee Jones' cover of it. Both are what a love song should be. Ever since it came out, this sound has had a haunting quality to it. They were the first Liverpool group to hit number 1 in the UK with their first record How Do You Do It. The Beatles didn’t get to the top spot until their second record. When I saw them headline at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, there was a relatively unknown support band that closed the first half called The Rolling Stones.
