The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity in the 1970s. They have been called the "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh" and are one of many acts heralded as the "biggest group since the Beatles"

Omigoodness, hearing this after so long of not brings back memories. Years back when going through a rough time, I'd listen to "Saturday Night" and Toni Basil's "Mickey" back to back to lift my spirits. Yep, still works! 😊

This is my teenage years. I literally had 10,000 pictures of the BCR on my bedroom walls...from inch by inch pictures to full sized posters. I know the number, because my best friend and I counted them one night on a sleep over. We wrote a number on each one. They were a sensation...before their time. They even outsold The Beatles....and lost millions when their manager did them dirty. Sad... Les (the lead singer) and Alan (the bass player and brother to the drummer, Derek) have both passed away. EDIT: In THIS video LES is playing the drums, Derek was out with the flu when they filmed this show.

I just mentioned Les on drums. I never knew that.. found out some 50 years later lol

@@Deniselynn1959 LOL... If I can recall correctly... Derek had gotten the flu that was going around when they were filming for the TV show... in order to make it look like they played live (instead of lip synched playback, like they did for TV; which all bands did)... They told Les to sit at the drums and pretend to play. I think he did a fairly good job for the most part.

Wow, I forgot about this song. Thank you for reacting to it and to whoever recommended it. I was 8 years old when it was released and hearing it again instantly made me remember the old roller skating rink in my city because this was one the most played songs there. It makes sense too since at that age, with far more limited options than today's kids have, the roller rink on a Saturday was THE perfect place to have a kids birthday party. So most of the parents could dump their kids off at the birthday party and enjoy at least a few hours of alone time or intimacy together. I honestly think that's the only time I ever went to the roller rink back then, for birthday parties. It was always a great time though.

These were the biggest band since The Beatles at the time. Between 71 & 77, they had many hits here in the UK, but no success in America. Strangely though, this song wasn't a hit here in the UK, but made Number 1 in America 😊

@RobPresq17176 ай бұрын
Haha, that's fantastic. My older sister and of course her friends were always in her room obsessed with those teen magazines. I always remember them loving Leif Garrett and he seemed to be on every cover back then. So of course, I had to dislike him and make fun of him to try to get their attention. You know us younger brothers, it's what we did.

The Bay City Rollers were successful worldwide in the mid-1970s, including in the US, and were the UK rivals to the Osmonds and the Jacksons. They were the most internationally successful UK boyband since the "British invasion" of the 1960s and held records that were only broken in the past decade by One Direction. Mind you, One Direction even broke some Beatles records! This was the song that broke them in the US. Lead singer, Les McKeown (12 November 1955 - 20 April 2021) was usually up front and all over the stage and very much the frontman (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZuUpGmjpt6VsJY) but the band's drummer, Derek Longmuir, was not available for this performance so Les, who had learnt to play the drums as a teenager but never played them regularly in performances, played the drums while singing in this one.
