I'm 55 in Australia, was a huge Bay City Rollers fan in the 70s! Thanks for the memory. They were pretty squeaky clean. The members that I remember were: Alan Longmuir - backing and occasional lead vocals, bass, rhythm guitar, piano, accordion (1964-1976, 1978-1981, 1982-1983, 1990, 1996, 1999-2000, 2015-2016; died 2018) Derek Longmuir - drums, percussion (1964-1981, 1982-1983, 1996) Eric Faulkner - backing and occasional lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, violin, mandolin, bass (1972-1981, 1982-1985, 1990, 1996, 1999-2000) Les McKeown - lead vocals, occasional guitar (1973-1978, 1982-1985, 1996, 1999-2000, 2015-2016; died 2021) Stuart "Woody" Wood - backing and occasional lead vocals, rhythm and lead guitars, keyboards, bass, mandolin (1974-1981, 1982-1985, 1990, 1996, 1999-2000, 2015-2016, 2018-present).

The Bay City Rollers were a great pop band. I learned how to spell Saturday from this song. I actually still have my 45 of this song. They even had a Saturday Morning TV show.

WOW! The Rollers were my early teens. I wore tartan trews, carried tartan scarves and was absolutely in love with Eric 'Faulkner' ( he's at the back) My friends and I would rush home from school to watch 'Shang-a-Lang' their afternoon TV show, and we would sit in front of the TV screaming and crying. Eric is now 68 and still performing, and I think still very hot for a man of roughly my age... I'm 61, he's 68. 😍💕♥

you guys are hilarious. this is baked into my brain to this day because it was such a huge hit when it came out and my sister got the record and played it over and over and over again. but somehow I don't mind it. it's simple and catchy and they were from Scotland which kind of makes it cool. but I know what you mean, I've listened to a lot of music from before my time so early 60s on back. I've listened to a lot of music from the '20s 30s and 40s and I know a lot of history about it and I talked to a lot of relatives. but I'm pretty sure I will never fully know what it was like to experience those things for the first time like they did. and just the subtle ways that Society was different than values were a little different. so I understand completely what you mean. but I do think there is a lot more media and content around now from say the 70s and the more of it you watch and listen to and read comments about and look things up, the closer you will get to having a real feel for it I think.

This was such a fun song and we loved it. yes this was more for us innocent kids who just loved dancing and hanging out, its a feel good song I can tell you 70s were so fun , and you both would have loved it for it was about just feeling naturally good and music , and hanging out with friends, skating, movies, and getting into a little mischief , you know sneaking out to a ball game or something, Sunny days , moonlite nights and cruising and buying newest recort or teen beat magazine. My mom grew up listening to The Bay City Rollers to the point where she made her own tartan trimmed clothing. She passed that love to me when I was really young, and then I turned it up to eleven over the last fifteen years by introducing her to around thirty other Scottish, and Irish groups, though these groups are a bit more traditional in their music styles.

These guys had a string of catchy songs in the 70s that are worth checking out .. "Bye Bye Baby" was probably their biggest hit and is excellent .. They did a good version too of the Dusty Springfield song "I Only Want To Be With You" .. "Money Honey" was one of their songs with a raunchier style .. Definitely had a feel good vibe about them !

Omg, BCR! Teen and tween girls in several countries rode hormonal waves of Rollermania in the 70s, had all the records, the teeny bopper mags, and the Rollers' faces stuck all over their walls and notebooks. Their Scottish accents thrilled us, and the tartan was beloved. I started 6th grade in 1976. Within the first week, all of us girls knew who loved which Roller. Omg! This was my older sisters favorite band! I was 11 and went with her and her friend to the concert and it was so funny watching them chase the limo as the band left the arena. My sister and her friend were hanging on to the bumper along with other screaming teenage girls and my sister let go and was rolling on the gravel road! 😂 😂😂 They also wore plaid everything! If you've watched the scenes at airports when The Beatles arrived anywhere, it was almost identical for a time when these guys were huge in many countries. Tartan exploded as a fashion statement everywhere, and the whole thing rather bemused those of us who grew up on The Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd or whatever. Not my scene at all but millions loved them, so we have to be thankful it didn't last like those others I mentioned 😂

Bay City Rollers are Scottish pop rock band. They also were known as The Saxons, The Rollers, The New Rollers. They were active 1964-1981, 1982-1987, 1990, 1996, 1999-2000 (Genres: Rock, Pop music, Pop rock, Glam rock, Power rock, Bubblegum rock) Had worldwide popularity was among teens in the 70s. On stage they wore some tartan(plaid) on their clothes. In reference to them being from Scotland. Band members Alan Longmuir died in 2018, ( Alan did 300 hours of community service after admitting to possessing child pornography). Ian Mitchell & Les McKeon died in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Les McKeon said in October 2019 that the band did not actually play on many of their hits. Because the producers would not spend more time than they needed in those days to get the sound they wanted. So they hired session musicians who could do it faster. The Les McKeon was the only one from the band who was allowed in recording sessions. This caused animosity with him and the band. The band broke up in 1987. They sold 120 million records worldwide. They got name Bay City Rollers. First it The Rollers. They wanted a more powerful American name. Derek Longmuir threw a dart on a US map. It landed on Arkansas, didn't like threw again, it landed on Bay City, Michigan. They were called the "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh" and " biggest group since the Beatles"

This song is also featured on one of my favorite time travel movies, a spoof of the 1970s called "The Spirit of '76". It featured David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, Rob Reiner, DEVO, and many other 1970s celebrities in the cast. In the movie, a group of time travellers from 2176 try to go back to 1776, to search for the Constitution. Their time machine malfunctions, however, and they wind up in 1976, during the Bicentennial.

The Bay City Rollers were Scotland's answer to the Beatles, they had just as many fans world wide as the Beatles. I saw footage from the 70's of them being mobbed by screaming girls, teenagers in Japan walked around wearing tartan as well as many other teenagers in countries all over the world. The 1970's was basically the decade of the tartan.

My family lived in England, 1975 into 1976-when I was 12-13. I was a huge Elton John and Stevie Wonder fan upon arrival. Every single one of the friends I made was a Bay City Rollers fanatic.
