About 50 years ago in the month of June, I was lucky to visit with my uncle in Juneau Alaska for an entire month. What an experience! He was in the Coast Guard’s. It was so different and before all the tourists. I was even lucky to go fishing 2 days seeing whales and beautiful eagles. I will never forget the beauty.

Alaska is a completely different experience to Norway, so if you're like earlier Ben and David thinking it's just an American version of a scenic cruise, think again. One of my favorite destinations.

I am a travel nurse and spent 6 months working as the hospital nursing supervisor in Ketchikan. It was amazing. The town looked very similar to the town you showed in this video. The port of Ketchikan is an actual rain forest and on the cruise ship route either the first or last stop from Seattle. That's still 2+ days on the Alaskan Marine Highway Ferry. Saw a lot of patients from the cruise ships. Loved my time there and got to do so many things in those 6 months. I think salmon fishing was my favorite. If Alaska is on your bucket list, I highly recommend it!

Your reaction to the doughboy is hilarious. It's just "Indian fry bread." It's simple to make and soooo good. I've eaten it across Oklahoma, Kansas, and the Dakotas, where its an everyday staple of Native American life.

Took an Alaska cruise in June 2013 on Celebrity. We stopped at Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. When you get home, research the Yukon Gold Rush and the role of the North West Mounted Police in monitoring the gold fields and protecting the miners. Skagway was the starting point of the White Pass climb into Canada. It is an interesting story. Glad you had a good time. Cheers.

there is a big difference when you get to have a beautiful sunny day like this versus a cloudy, gloomy, possibly rainy or snowy day on the train. You were right to take that back compartment. When we went on the train, we were just in the middle, and the views were not as spectacular. We've also taken the bus to Emerald Lake twice from a private company, which is a lot cheaper and has a guide who will tell you all about what you were seeing. apparently there are problems with the train, and it might become unavailable for a while., if so, take the bus to Emerald Lake.

You're absolutely right! The weather can make a big difference in the experience and views during the train ride. We were fortunate to have a beautiful sunny day, which enhanced the spectacular scenery. Thank you for sharing your insights about taking the bus to Emerald Lake as an alternative. It's great to have different options to explore and appreciate the stunning landscapes of Alaska. We appreciate your input and hope others find it helpful as well. Happy Cruising!

We loved Alaska, it was our first cruise. We were supposed to do this trip but it broke down part way and people had to be rescued! I’ve never been so glad as I know I would have been scared when we saw the track. We had a replacement coach trip and part refund instead which was also fun. It went to the border of Canada and how people navigated across that land years ago was unbelievable, it was bleak and we were there in good September weather not winter. Lovely seeing Skagway again

We went to Skagway twenty years ago viaAlaskan Ferries where we slept on deck some people erected their tents to sleep in . The graveyard in Skagway is very interesting, we walked the chilkoot trail into Whitehorse Canada, where we had to present our passport. We walked along the railway track you have just been on. The trail we walked is an open air museum with all the equipment used in the Goldrush. We walked over the border following the ski poles marking the route set out by the Canadian Mounties, it was recommended to only walk in the morning due to the chances of avalanche in the afternoon due to the heat.

There were so many things to look at, think I may actually missed some! We also visited Glacier Bay and luckily had fantastic weather. I love your channel. Your videos are hysterical. I have been to AK several times visiting family living in Juneau where everything is super expensive as you mentioned in one of your AK videos. We took the Alaska Marine Highway AKA the Ferry AKA the Poor Man's Cruise to Skagway to take that train up to the Yukon. The ferry is a lot of fun, but the food isn't so great. We purchased AMH blankets and camped out on the deck. The mountains were greener with less snow when we went in late summer. but it was still beautiful. Whale watching is always hit or miss because the whales decide when and where they'll emerge from the depths. We got lucky on our tour and saw a couple of orcas jump up pretty high. I popped into the comments to tell you that my favorite thing about Skagway is that it's a fake town. It was real town at one point, mostly inhabited by the miners and businesses that served the mining community, but now it's pretty much fake and exists almost solely for the tourists. If you stay overnight, you notice that the town clears out and it's almost empty. If you eat late, you have the Red Onion basically to yourself. My cousins walked around at night in their pajamas. Being from the lower 48, I re-dressed when we decided to go out again, but to my surprise the PJ walking tour wasn't considered strange. Walking around at night, you meet the handful of people left in town after the cruise patrons leave, mostly the young people who run the adventure and fishing tours. A group of the tour kids invited us to their bonfire party and we had a great time visiting with them. We stayed at the Sergeant Preston Lodge which is now closed but reopening this fall. I hope to go back. It was odd, but a blast. I loved that t-shirt you showed with tiny Texas inside huge Alaska calling Texas cute. I hope to find that somewhere. Alaska will never be a mini Norway because Alaska is vast. It's hard to wrap one's mind around how huge it is. But the population is tiny in comparison and there are very few roads. If you ever go back to Alaska, I'd recommend not to take a cruise, but to go up to Denali National Park and sleep in a train car hotel room and see the bears. I panned for gold like you did, but in Fairbanks. I didn't do too well gold mining but we enjoyed a gold miner's lunch. I'd also recommend meeting the Iditarod sled dogs. Then go up to Utqiagvik sometimes also called Barrow and see how the Iñupiat people live.

I went to Alaska in 2019 and it was one of my favorite places it was so beautiful and different I loved that train ride in Skagway so pretty. We also did a land portion after the 7 day cruise that took us to Anchorage, Denali , and Fairbanks it was worth every penny and would not hesitate to go back at all.We have been on 26 and counting two more coming up a cruise with our grandkids on the Fantasy in August and then in October another one on the Diamond Princess with a 5 day land portion in Japan with Canadian friends.Always enjoy watching your reviews very much!

We just got back and we rented a Jeep in Skagway and followed the similar route into the Yukon Territory but went a little farther north. Everything you have said is absolutely true; words or pictures cannot adequately describe the grandeur and beauty of Alaska.

Just wanted to add my few thoughts on your experiences in Skagway, Alaska. It's so good that you tried some of the food there, and did the train trip. You take amazing videos, and it's also amazing that you can use a drone to get those overhead shots. Well done. We hope you continue to enjoy your time in Alaska, and we look forward to your continuing vlogs. We have been to Alaska 3 times now, and still enjoy it and its diversification, every time. We hope to go again in the future. Keep up the good work and enjoy the rest of your travels.

Omg you guys. I'll be on the Spirit and riding this train. Your video is the beat I've seen about this train. Your scenic shots are exactly the kind of videos I try to capture on Amtrak adventures. I can not wait to start this Alaska adventure in 28 days. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Thank you! ❤😊 #noziplineformethough

I personally always have a fry bread when I'm in skagway. Next time try it with honey on one side only..yummm also sail in September to Alaska good chance you'll see the Northern lights! Awesome, unforgettable!!❤❤

We went to Skagway in August 2019 on a Royal Caribbean cruise. We did the same train ride (except we rode the train back down as well). In August there is a lot less snow, much greener up near the top of the line. We also couldn't get too close to the glaciers in Glacier Bay because so much had melted/fallen kff that the ship couldn't get much closer, so I do recommend going on an Alaskan cruise early in the season like you two did (May, June)

How amazing! Really stunning and brilliant. I had the same thought as you. Norway was for Europeans and Alaska for Americans. I thought they would be similar but the inside passage looks so unique.

First time commenter here. I did the Yukon Train ride last year in July. Y’all are super lucky to have gone in May. The ride for us was completely breathtaking, however we did not have any snow. If y’all go back, I highly recommend any restaurant that serves crab. Thank you for sharing your travels.

I had been to Alaska 5 times when I talked my fiancé into a 2 1/2 week land and sea visit (Jim’s first cruise was Alaska!) Finally on the cruise he decided to cancel our honeymoon in Italy the following year. He wanted to come back to Alaska. We were married onboard the Radiance of the Seas in Juneau. We managed 3 more trips to Alaska. Each moment we didn’t want to sleep, afraid to miss something

Love the video guys! ❤ We did this Alaska trip in 2016 and absolutely loved Skagway! And the rail tour but we also did dog sledding. And you sat at our exact table in the Red Onion. And even though we did virtually the same things we were still jealous and wished we were back there enjoying it with you two! Keep up the great work!!!

“Let it rip Rudolph” 😂 I so needed that laugh today! It’s been a bit of a rough week for me as an uncle passed away on Monday and both having to process that, along with making arrangements for him and having to deal with all the practical stuff as well (like canceling subscriptions, starting to go through stuff to empty the apartment etc) So yeah, definitely needed this video today!

@Cruisewith Thank you! Just keep doing what you're doing guys, your videos always give so much joy and a lot of laughs, along with getting to see all the wonderful places you visit! I think i can speak for a large portion of your viewerbase there when saying how much joy you bring :) Just watching KZbin videos from you guys and other content creators is helping me a lot at the moment (and helps me relax unser normal circumstances as well) Also always fun to compare different cruise lines on videos and see which one could be a good fit for me and my boyfriend (if we can get over our fear of open sea and deep water) This far I think Viking would be a very good fit, looks so peaceful, NCL is growing a bit on me as well though
