The ratings also have to do with how the nba dostributes the games, the nfl using peacock a cheap service a lot of older ppl have was a great move, the nfl partnering with prime a service most ppl have and don’t have to get just for the games. The nba using tnt and ESPN and making it where it’s unavailable on league pass without watching weird angles so you just go to methstreams, also to many games for the common fan to care about on a day to day basis, when the average fan sees that their team isn’t playing a top team they know it’s either not that important or that they will be able to see them play that exact same team another time in the season or even another 3 times the local packages have also gon to shit price wise.

Ratings are down because basketball has been optimized and the optimized version is boring. There's no need to watch the games when you know the two teams are only going to try out-three each other. It's easier to check the boxscore later to see who won the variance race. Less optimized basketball is inferior but it's fun to watch. It's emotional, it's personal, it creates narratives and rivalries that you crave.

Just to speak on a few things: I think the internet generation is ruining rating for anything that's on TV. I legit just watch highlights of shit because it skips past a lot of the BS. Also, not everyone has cable or Hulu tv or espn+. I grew up in the 90s with NBA on NBC. I don't blame the league, even though shit do be boring sometimes. I blame the internet... but that might be the 37 in me. LOL. As far as sneakers, I think the lack of Ads/tv spots has ALOT to do with it. I have so many memories of MJ, AI, Shaq, Barkley, Lebron, Kobe commercials. The footlocker week of greatness spots. Dunkin on a Reindeer. Mars Blackmon. Kiss rapping for the Question. They don't promote shit no more. Even the Blake griffin Jordan commercials were amazing. Shits wild that I find out about sneaker releases from IG and not a ad. Imagine if they redid the banned 1 commercial for the 85s coming out with like Trae or letting spike do some ads again.
