Thank you for helping a neighbor out. This looks like Westwood. I'm the next subdivision over in Highland park and lost my home to that fire and my dog was home alone at the time and we were not able to come back to him in time. I got help to cut most of my trees down, 2 weeks ago. The hardwood unfortunately doesn't look like they will come back. Looks like I'll be cutting them all down this summer before the fall storms knock them down.

I grew up in Southern Oregon, and my first tree was an 18 inch DF at 9 yrs old, fell it and my Grandfather played the forest against me, he told me of every danger that he could see, it sank in, and I was hooked, and I made few mistakes with his tooling of my now near forgotten talents. I was petrified to say the least at some of the situations he set up in the trees. There was a massive snow in 79 and we couldn't even open the door at first. Grandfather went to work and we had a trail to the truck but we weren't going any farther. Trees were breaking and slamming the ground. I was indeed scared early before I seen Grampa grab his Pro 125 Mick~! Bad Ass Saw~! He went out the door and slaughtered trees into each other and created the biggest (to this day) mess of trees falling into each other. I didnt understand it until I understood what he was doing. He was directing the fall of snow hell that would crush the Log Home we lived in, he hit the tree of my Tree Fort, (Tree House) and I knew he was saving us. As ordered I went to the basement and he came in an hour later and said we need you, I sprang to the pulling of branches and bucked fire wood jack and Jill or axe. Years later Im setting Jacks for L-Jacks like Buckins with a logging company part time in the Redwoods in West Cave Junction Oregon while I was in HS of my Senior. It was an adventure to say the least and ive been hooked from day one.

Lol, This video made me smile. I seen Buckin using that short handle axe and remembered him saying " I want a big long handled axe to hit the wedge harder with" I know, I know, "Right tool for the job" as they say. Sometimes I will use a American splitting maul. But for little "pecker-poles" Like this, in a lot of brush and downed trees. I still like my short handles. Bukin always makes me smile, Because I understand him and what he is trying saying, Even if he does not have time for all the words, AKA write a book for one answer.

I must say that the burnt trees have a sad ending... but clearing out an area and starting fresh is a glorious day. I have a tulip poplar beside my house i swear it wants to grow 4 ft every growing season, i keep it pruned every year so it doesn't grow into an uncontrollable monster. They grow fast and tall, then fall over. 🌲

The greeniacs have come back to love the loggers again, they know they can't getter thinned without us,to much for them, not enough agency in the world to cover what needs done, mill are retooling to take the smaller.trees that have taken over for the last 5o years, the thinned projects are tried and true, when the blaze get to them the fire stops!!!!so Hallaluya brother here we come, the greeniacs want to narrow the loggers now,go figure,if they would have left us alone and just offered a little direction where they wanted us we would never ever been having these giant fires!!!So took.a while but common sense finally showed up!!!! They meant good but didn't know anything about the woods, were back and look out we can fix it get the f^#%%^# out the way and help where the can,all foe one now!!!! Good stuff here as always pleasure!!! Sierra John ❤
