As a seamstress I would hem the ends of both pairs of shorts by rolling up about a 1/2 inch and sewing them with gold thread.

I agree. The cut off look could be cute, but that will only work with traditional denim. Both of theirs appeared to be a stretch denim which will not get that cut off fringe look, it will just start to roll up or fall apart. Also, they didn't reinforce the stitching on the leg seams, which means they could start to come apart there.

Denim isn't a fabric that tends to fray continuously, it forms frays which are often fashionable and desirable. We also can't be sure if it's true denim, it could be a chambray. However, I would have liked to seen some measuring, pinning, marking and accurate cutting! As cute as the embroidery patches are on Kristen's shorts, the crotch is disproportionately longer than the outer leg seam! Swiss and seamstresses everywhere, screaming!
