Thanks! Not bad for a 35 year old boat, eh?!?

Yes! Thank you! I’ve been hoping you’d do some accessibility stuff for pontoons Tom. I’ve gone so far as looking at the installation of a 12v wheelchair lift.

We could have done something quite extravagant with a flip down ramp or something built into the boat. However, these folks wanted to keep it fully removable and simple. This will only take a moment to use and can be set in the dock box out of the way when not in use. If it were something being used every day or someone was on a lake with gas docks and restaurants I could see them needing something that stays on the boat and can be deployed at any dock. Luckily these folks are on a small inland lake and will only use it on their own dock for boarding and unboarding.

Great job Tom! Those Luxury seats and the teak floor are premo!

I really do love these beige seats...hoping my next tritoon build we do for ourselves will have those seats...I'm thinking with blue railings and the tan woven floor!!
@diablofocker18 ай бұрын
How much does something like this typically cost? New deck/railings/seats covers etc. This looks nicer than the pontoons people want 20k for.
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
Even with all the customizations and accessories this boat came in under $20K. Most of our projects with new everything (other than the toons and motor) come in around $16K to $20K. A new motor takes the total up very quickly, as does custom welding or other accessories. When folks are shopping for 10 to 15 year old boats they're typically going to need some updating or restoring within a few years anyway...so taking an old worn out boat and making everything new is a solid investment if you plan to keep the boat and enjoy it for years to come.

Nice work, especially on that wheelchair ramp. One thing I would have liked to have seen is those cleats up front is pop-up cleats instead of those fixed ones. Just a better way to get rid of a trip hazard.
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, it was a neat project with the customizations. We haven't added pop-up cleats on a pontoon yet. The nice ones can be a bit pricey, and the cheap ones tend to be a pain to use as they won't pop up easily or they won't stay locked down. I do love them though especially in spots where you know folks will be walking through regularly. I do try to place them the best I can out of the way when a customer tells me they use the front deck for boarding regularly.

@@tomspontoons I'm actually about to go through your videos again to see if there are any boats with beige fence but with the black and grey luxury seats, I already have the tan flooring and that goes with the beige fence, but I just don't think I want the beige seats, I'm horrible with colors, ugg...
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
@@skylark4901 I haven't done that color scheme yet. I think most folks stick with beige and tan, or go gray/charcoal with blue or black. I will say, my next boat I build for us will be tan floors, blue railings, and the beige luxury seats!!

Awesome work, love your channel it’s been extremely helpful! Do you know if pontoon stuff has replacement or new pop up changing rooms coming built into the seats or railing kits?
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words. We saw lots of channels showing boats being restored, but none teaching how to do the tasks associated. We're a few years in now and have no plans of stopping!! I don't believe they have any immediate plans to do a changing room. There's not really a good way to tie one in that I can think of either. I hope that they come out with a flip out changing room option in their lean back seat, that's a popular design on new pontoons. Otherwise they have a quick attaching changing room that hooks on the bimini frame. I haven't installed one yet, but it always caught my eye as a good idea considering most changing rooms are used seldomly, but are great to have if you NEED one.

Got Damn Tom! Love the channel. Hope it explodes. Would love to see you swap out carpet from say an older 2004'ish model with non-wood floors, all aluminum to the newer vinyl type. I heard you need to heat it while scraping? Also what about an electric anchor for a large pontoon? Maybe one in the front and back? Best way to anchor a large pontoon? Thank you! Great channel!
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words! I have avoided working on aluminum decked boats because they end up just as expensive as redecking a plywood boat, and a lot bigger mess and tedious work. One of these days (maybe as the channel grows and can help pay for it) I am going to buy an aluminum decked Tracker or Fisher pontoon and tackle the project simply for the sake of making a video showing how to do it properly. The best way I've heard to get the aluminum fully cleaned off is using a heated power washer, working it off one inch at a time. Then the proper ahesive to use is a solvent based adhesive as the aluminum doesn't allow typical glues to cure because it's not porous. A bit of a different process all in all, but a lot of work regardless!

Awesome job! My Dad is in a wheelchair and I've been thinking of different things for a small ramp at the dock for him. Looks like you custom welded this from aluminum sheeting and added grip tape?
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, this was built from 3/16" flat stock for the sides, cut down and bent to make boarding easier and safer. then it has 1/8" thick 1.25"x1.25" tube covered by 1/8" sheet, and the grip tape. It ended up nice and lightweight, while being wide enough for the cambered style chair to fit with ease. The big part that made it possible was getting a 30" wide door and the double hinge. Most typical pontoon boats don't have wide enough doors for a ramp to work and chair to fit through. Hope it gives you some ideas to help get your Dad on the boat easy and safely!
@fieldsbazen5438 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply! I got lucky and the stock railing on my 96 StarCraft I rebuilt has a 30” and 33” door. Look forward to all the upcoming content!
@tomspontoons8 ай бұрын
@@fieldsbazen543 That's the perfect setup if you're able to use the 33" door for a ramp. I think most standard wheelchairs would fit with a 30" door and slightly narrower ramp, but we built it for a cambered wheel style chair which is about 29" wide.
