Of the Magnetrons I think the base grey version with the Rose Carbon fiber with the hand rubbed (giggity) satin blade looks the best of them all since everything flows together. BUT if WE had managed to push the price down about $50 they would be a lot more compelling to more people. And also offer a plain version with no inlays but with the same texturing/milling lines over the whole scale. I feel like WE and other OEMs have been watching people using their OEM services and see them selling their knives for $350-400. And the OEM's went "Wait people are buying these "Designer knives" that look like some of our knives we charge $250 for?", I think we can crank up the prices on our own products. And things have just kept snowballing from there. Just think of the We Kitefin (WITH THE MILLING) was about $150-$175, a year later they released the Shakan (and another similar model the name escapes me that was not a Limited edt) for $250 same size same milling pattern same build quality. The Shakan was a simple flat ground blade compared to the Kitefin Hollow ground. So one could argue the Kitefin is more expensive to make. We know Prices have jumped due to inflation etc, but some models have a reasonable $50 price increase. While other models cost $100 more than they should if not more. Here is a basic frame lock, we put some milling lines on the show scale so we would like $380 for it thank you. When in reality it should be more like a $250-280 knife. If WE (or another company) went the extra mile, to give us a better 20CV heat treat than the other companies at 61-63HRC (Ideally 62-63HRC) maybe spent some extra time to get the HRC consistency down to 1-2HRC points by doing smaller batches GREAT, then charge the extra money. Why do I always go on these rants, lol, I Blame you MC your Rants are contagious 😅😆

I love the Magnetron, but kind of only the exact version I got (in terms of looks, that is). My knife has amazing action, super snappy opening and very smooth closing. I even prefer it over my Ziffius and Exciton. That being said, I have to agree with you on the mismatching of colors and materials. And that sadly goes for several of the new models released by WE Knife Co. Oh, and I appreciate you being very honest to your audience when gifted a knife. I bet some companies will want you to only say positive things, or at the very least, not mention bad things. Keep it up!
@olddirtybooger Жыл бұрын
I was gonna ask, which version you got. Then I read your name, and relealized, your magnetron review is next in my cue. I guess everyone gets a cookie if I mention MC in my comment on your video. Honestly I was looking at the raw/blue version, I already have too many black knives. This "subdued model" feels a bit cheap-pimp-ish. Literal gold in the carbon fiber would escalate it to "makes sense for people who like that."

Surprisingly of all of We Knife's latest releases, the Magnetron was the one that most appealed to me. I suppose next would be the Exciton then the Ziffius. The aggressive wharncliff shape of the Ziffius turns me off , and the Exciton is cool but the shape is less pleasing aesthetically compared to the Magnetron. All that said, I won't be picking one of these up. I typically don't buy Chinese made knives, unless it's an incredible value. Nothing from We, Bestech or even Reate has met my standards of value for a long time, mainly because none of them achieve optimal Rockwell hardness. The day that any of these manufacturers get their blades to an adequate hardness, is the day that I consider those manufacturers products

I think SOME people have this WILDLY exaggerated misconception about how much Damasteel actually cost. The steel in itself is not a very expensive steel. It's all about how that steel is prepared (rubbed or polished etc) and etched, and most Chinese OEMs do a pretty basic job with it including WE. Damasteel can be found on knives for just over $100, and there are a lot of them In the $150-300 range Including Italian made knives. IF We are going to charge $700-800, they need to include some Timascus/ZirkuTi inlays, back spacers, clips, or something else to justify that price tag. I really do like We, but I just want them to do better and go back towards premium and value again.

I had this on pre-order, but at the last minute I cancelled. I found the Makani was just a more elegant design, so I went with that. I love the Makani, but I did have to take a dremel to the flipper tab, as the convex shape and jimping was not aggressive enough. If my hands had any moisture on them, the blade was nearly impossible to deploy. Unlike the Ziffius. I could be working at Shabazz's vaseline factory and still have no issue flipping that thing open.

Bought this knife for the copper inlays with the black, and it's a proper size knife, but it is Overpriced, especially having a colorblind designer. HATE the pivot! Just dumb, and the "loaded" versions with the kitchen sink thrown at them are EXTREMELY unattractive and ridiculously expensive for crappy steel with thrift store design. So yes, I agree with you 99%.
