Boat specs below ⬇️
We try and plan for everything because it is our lives and boat on the line, and in remote places especially, we are constantly monitoring things like daily weather local patterns, what the seabed is like for anchor holding, and do we need to move to a new place for safety and comfort? Sailing and anchoring in strong winds can be extra stressful and when the sun goes down and its still howling, it can be hard to switch off and relax, because we can’t always assume it will be a safe harbor the entire night. The Pacific Ocean has new things to take into account. In addition to watching how much water is under our boat, and asking ourselves “would we still be floating if the wind shifts while at anchor?”, there are 10-20’ tidal changes in Panama that can fool unsuspecting sailors into thinking they’re in enough water…until the weather shifts at night, at low tide and there are coral heads around. We always try to have a plan A, B and C, because there will come a time when Plan A and B fail, and sometimes, we only gotta be lucky, but what if our luck runs out?

I’m new to this channel and don’t know how long you have been sailing or doing your cinematography. But that is absolutely outstanding really really enjoyed it. Mother nature was watching after you. Thanks again for a beautiful Vlog. Sending California vibes from LIZ.

It is said that the best indicator of how well you understand a concept is how clearly you can explain it to a novice. I learned more from that anchoring encounter than any other I've seen.

I love your introspective on your nerves and emotions. It’s very much relatable to everyone and those who don’t fear or respect Mother Nature are usually punished. You’re doing it and that’s what matters!

The ups and downs of boat life. Thanks for sharing. At the beginning of the video Katie looked like she has had enough. It was reassuring to see a smile later. People refer to living your dream as the easy life but nothing comes easy.

Very nice episode! It's great when you can learn a lesson like accounting for the tide on anchor without having an emergency in the process. I think some nerves create vigilance which adds to the safety margin. It will be interesting to see how you settle in as the Pacific journey progresses. You two are a breath of fresh air to watch!

Just adding tocomment re glue / epospxy to use on your drawer. As former shipwright joinerman I would use Titebond adhesive exterior. This works excellent in Marine appl 13:36 ications . Keep editing those great vids with your wonderful communication dialogue and smiles. By the way the First Mate is a definite keeper. Smart , quick quips , great sailor and gorgeous as well. Not too many like that around keep uo the great work and enjoy the journey

It is very underrated still to be able to just sit and be with yourself or one another, time on the water for me is as good as any mediation

I have used a way to help with the swell change in the middle of the night at anchor. I have never seen a comment to this affect anywhere. I get the vessel point into the swell that is most comfortable and turn on the auto pilot. As long as the swell has a current with it will keep the boat in the correct direction. Try it what have you got to lose. Well your batteries I guess. Great job guys keep it up.

Katy: I don't know. We'll see. -- I completely understand. Do I like the genoa or main shape? What do I do to make it better? I find it difficult to read a sail especially as the boat is building momentum. Masts that do not rotate are giving me problems as well. The mast interferes with wind over the luff. Luff telltales mounted to close to the mast don't help. I like to trim the genoa based on leach telltales because they show the flow off the sail. Heavy cruising boats don't trim like light, planing racing boats. I race on a FT 10M and offshore sail on heavy boats like a Oyster 485.

That's an interesting snubber arrangement. To me it doesn't put enough cushion betwen the anchor and the winch, but I could be wrong. Best wishes to you guys! Thanks for sharing your experiences and emotions..

Might I suggest camera mounts rigged semi permanently around different areas of the boat. That way you know your shot is lined up just how you want it, you can quickly change camera locations, and both hands can be free to tackle tasks like setting the anchor. Wireless mics like Rode or DJI would also be a great addition. Otherwise, great job!

Parker I understand your concern over the anchoring situation, but sometimes it is better to be lucky. Does your radar pick up underwater obstructions? If you had that option, I’m sure that would relieve that stress from you and Katiie.

Aren't there other serious dangers in this area? In 2023 there were 2 attacks on yachts near Isla del Rey. Are you prepared for such dangers and are you aware of them?

maybe you could make a clear bottom 5 gallon that you can put in the water over the side of the dingy so you can scan your surroundings to make sure it safe or take a swim. that would be awful if something bad happened to boundless, my god I don't even want to think about it. but the more you learn, right...... ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ

Your comment was probably meant to be funny but came across as lame. You should consider deleting or revising it. They live on a sailboat so of course clothes are kept to a minimum and the last thing they need is to be made to feel self conscious about it. They are a gorgeous couple.
