I stumbled accross your earliest episodes of the Erie Canal and got sucked in initially for the canal. Since developing an interest in the cruising lifestylle, I had become curious the canal , the way down the east coast and the ICW. I enjoyed your early videos as much as I do your latest ones. As I aproach retirement, I shop for boats and dream about the lifestyle. I spent many years ailing boards, and now have a 13' Banshee (similar to a Laser). My goal here is to learn as much as i can from it, and to teach my daughter and two granddaughters to sail. Your videos are some of my favoties because of the detailed instructions you give. Thank you for sharing your learning experiences, wisdom and travels!

Hi guys, I have a Spectra also. While your water quality is drinkable it is on the high side. I think you should consider a new membrane, you don't need to get it from Spectra other sources are much cheaper. A new one will give you readings in the 230 range and if you treat it well it will last for years. The key with a water maker is to use it frequently, no more than 2 days between runs. And if possible avoid storing it because that requires pickling reducing the membrane life. My strainer broke also, you can replace it with more reliable alternatives not from Spectra. The boat looks and sails beautifully! Ben S/V DAWN
@Boundless_Adventure10 ай бұрын
We thought that was high as well. After it ran for a while longer, we re tested and it was at 400ppm. Ever since, it's been around 350ppm which is more acceptable I think. The water maker is from 2018 so the membrane has 5-6 years on it. I hope to have reliability out of the replacement spectra water strainer. If not we will get another brand. Thanks for the comment!

I was wondering when you mentioned in the last episode that Katie’s vacation was up what you’d be doing next. Obviously working remotely from the boat is a nice luxury. As a perspective sailor, ways to finance the lifestyle has been our biggest hold up. Although I feel there is plenty of work available (I’m a diesel mechanic), never having done it, we are a bit apprehensive to leave our lives in fate’s hands. Any insight?
@Boundless_Adventure10 ай бұрын
This lifestyle does require that "jump into the unknown" and we were fortunate that when we began, Katy already was working remotely online. The biggest question was what I (Parker) am going to do to make some money. Although we don't have some of the bills of living on land, we still have our health insurance, Starlink internet, maintaining/upgrading the boat. I left my HVAC work at home, but have fixed things for people as we've traveled. I don't advertise nor do I seek out people needing things fixed in anchorages/marinas. Enter KZbin! I started making these videos as a creative outlet and now I am able to supplement our income. I hope to continue growing this channel and supporting our life on the water more fully. Basically, I had to get creative when we left home on our adventure and if you're able to change and adapt, then you can absolutely make the lifestyle work in your own unique way! Hope this helps :)
@nutsandbolts43210 ай бұрын
@@Boundless_Adventure Thanks for the reply. KZbin is a bit of a gamble concerning income. If you do it as a creative outlet, and for fun, then great. That’s why you should make videos. I see a lot of start up sailing channels that are putting forth a lot of effort, and are missing the bullseye. Seeing that y’all are a young, attractive couple helps to get clicks and create captivating thumbnails. By no means am I downplaying the effort and work that it takes to create a successful video. You have done very well with editing and storytelling. I could go on, but I think I made my point. Concerning working abroad, I have heard stories of people being kicked out of countries for doing that under the table. Our short term goal is mainly coastal sailing in US waters until we build up the confidence to really set out. Anyway, I wish you the best in your venture and congratulations on 100 episodes. Look forward to seeing more.

Congrats on 100🥳 Feedback - I personally get bored & skip others doing touristy stuff, rather experience it myself, but I get others like it. Boat tech/maint is my jam, how I found your channel. Lost interest from 9:30, 10min vids are the sweet spot, "quality over quantity" (a 30min tv show has ~15min of commercials). If you have time to edit/release 30min vids, perhaps split your content into different categories/releases each week, could attract more/different audience, & potential sponsors. E.g. 1) Boat tech/maint only - Water maker (not in vid title) could have been a separate vid on it's own, attracting others like myself who are only interested in that type of content, vs; 2) Travel content only - "We visit ABC Island & share it's history" (Travel sponsors). 3) "We Dive with, at, or Fish", etc (Fish & Dive sponsors). 4) "Cooking Content" - Prepping/cooking on the boat or beach (maybe camping). Or, how remote islands/cultures supply & cook in their homes, etc (meet locals in their natural non-touristy environment). Anyhow, good luck with the next 100, maybe 100k+ subscribers by then. @Katy, Nice 🍑😜

Two things you need to add to your boat: a washer/dryer combo unit; and, an air conditioner, if you don’t have one.
@TonyRaincoat10 ай бұрын
A washer/dryer is an awesome addition if you have the space/resources, but the air conditioner will make you weak lol There’s never enough energy to run it all the time, so when you go a day or two using it, you have to stop. Then the heat destroys you. It’s best to just acclimate to the heat like the local population.
