We also moved from NJ to Williamsburg VA. Not sure what town your in but I believe close to Williamsburg. We retired 3 yrs ago and moved here. Best decision of our life. Love your home. Love being able to walk down Colonial Williamsburg everyday and I still find something new that I never knew before.

I pray that you have lots and lots of accessable Cash. I love you enthusiasm and desire to restore your home. I too love old homes. 3 acres is enormous to care for. Perhaps, if i may suggest, taking down trees and replanting 2 trees at a time. The same thing with your garden. Add 8 feet ever two years. Congratulations on the bedroom set. Very lovely and what a fabulous price. hint: write a quick note on paper and tape it to the back of a drawer,stating the where, when and cost of every piece. Itll be a fun treat for someone someday. Best wishes on your journey.

Welcome to Virginia!! I love your new home! Congratulations!! There are so many Estate sales here in Virginia and as you said the quality of the furniture is wonderful. The house must be so happy to have a couple that wants to keep it historically accurate! Yay. I’m excited for your upcoming videos, especially your sewing room. I’ve been in the commonwealth since 2007, but I live 15 minutes from the North Carolina border. Enjoy your years ahead!! I hope you keep a diary of the things you change & keep the same. Like the colors you choose and the time it took you to clean. It will be amazing to be able to look back at all the things you do to make the house yours. And to pass down the book to your children as well!!! Good luck dear. I also kept my cabinets in my kitchen and painted them a sage green, and discovered mold too yuck.

Before you start spending time and money on all your dream reno stuff, I think it would be wise to take care of that leaky roof first! It might not be as sexy or fun as your other projects, but leaky roofs are structural problems and can really mess up your house if not fixed. Pretty stuff later, necessary stuff ASAP! Other than that, congrats on the move! I love Colonial Williamsburg & surrounding areas. It's gorgeous! All the Best in your new home!

Absolutely, that’s the first thing we did. I’m nervous that there might be mold behind the walls.

Beautiful! Congratulations on your new house! I wholeheartedly understand why you'd love an orchard, but I personally think it would be a pity to clear a large area of these (old) trees. They provide a habitat for wildlife, birds, insects, which contribute to a healthy ecosystem (garden), provide shade during the heat and keep the area cooler, the roots help prevent erosion, ... Maybe a good alternative would be the concept of a food forest? = combination of forest + orchard + edible crops :)
@CarolineElizabethMartin2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Justine! You’re right, we should really try to keep as much as the old growth as possible but we also need a good balance of sunlight. The growth is so thick the only think able to grow is moss right now which is honestly really cool! We will see what a landscape architect thinks!

Excellent advice, I can see a fruit tree In every corner of the new garden! Look around at the trees that are bare to see how many nests there are from last year too. One last thing look into having the house declared historic it may be to your advantage and look into the history of the property as well as past owners.
@sherriianiro7477 ай бұрын
I agree! Some of those trees may be old and significant to the history of the house and provides privacy too!

Gotta agree with you about the wallpaper glue. We moved into a house years ago that had wallpaper that was as visually loud as a Beethoven symphony at about 130 decibels. Removing it was very close to an exercise in futility.

Congratulations! The place is stunning. Well done. Ticks have made it all the way north to the Gatineau Hills. I hope they're working on a vaccine. At least we all are learning the signs and symptoms? Meh. _Small suggestion_ - Don't forget to keep the shade trees around the house. It makes a difference in the summer and fall for the inside temp. It looks like you'll have good cross ventilation. South facing vegetable patch - my (mostly) annual balcony victor garden faces north west. I daydream about that kind of light... - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
@CarolineElizabethMartin2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Cathy! Always nice to see your kind words. So apparently they had a vaccine in the early 2000s but it was discontinued due to low demand (this was when the anti-v*x movement really started gaining momentum). So we had a solution but we fucked it up, per usual lol. That’s a great idea, I’m sure shade trees would lower our astronomical energy bill too! Our previous backyard was north facing so I know your struggle!
@stevezytveld65852 жыл бұрын
@@CarolineElizabethMartin We had a tic vaccine... Fer &#%#... These are the same anti science people that occupied Ottawa and continually pester us ever since (they're now squatting in a deconsecrated church). Like we're living a version of Idiocracy combined with Groundhog Day... {inhale with a glance to heaven...} Yeah, trees take time. If it were me I'd wait to see how the sun interacts with them and the house. One other thing that reduces the solar load is climbing ivy. The house is stunning. The land is amazing. Hooray!!! You are back!!! Your new "old" home is gorgeous! The builder did an exceptional job with details true to the period! I apologize for forgetting his/her name but how is your Pittie enjoying the new yard? I bet he loves it! I loved the house tour and would love if you shared updates. I'm so very happy for you, your husband and, of course, the dogs! Wonderful that everything is going well and I look forward to your next video!

Thank you John! The builder indeed very much cared about historical accuracy which is amazing. We seriously couldn’t be happier. Our pitty baby is doing exceptionally well! Her name is mucca (which means cow in Italian lol). We have 3 dogs and we weren’t sure how they were going to be off leash on the property given it’s not fenced in but they know the boundaries and stick to the area around the house which is such a relief. I’m going to have to convince my husband to let us get more rescue pitbulls!
