I think a good way to expand on bully is setting it in a college. You get more content with no issue while also avoiding guns.

My dream Sequel to Bully would be to age it up to being a College Campus in the 80s. You would have all of iconic symbols of that era to choose. The Jocks/nerds/cheerleaders and Outcasts,the big Football Game,the Halloween Pranks,the Romantic Interests,throwing the biggest parties,the Hot teacher or the Mean Principal,the Big Bully you fight,the Different Cliques and Factions,the Gossip and Drama, and finally the big End of the year Dance where every plot point and action you took leads up to this moment.

One reason that I love the Yakuza series so much is because it reminds me of childhood memories playing Bully. The emphasis on hand-to-hand, the small but lively map, the humor, and the plethora of minigames. Bully is the closest Western example I can think of to RGG’s games.
@wuebboltc2 жыл бұрын
This actually reminds me a lot of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor -- which just so happens to be (A) one of MY favourite games, and (B) is something I've been replaying recently. It's an open-world game, but it adds a unique twist: the sub-bosses you fight are all unique, meaning that not only do they all have different names, but they also require different methods to kill. In addition, the standard enemies you fight can become bosses simply by killing you, and every time you die, the bosses get stronger. A shame that WB patented the game's system....

I *love* insightful videos like this. It isn't a boring straight review where you just recount the plot of the game like so many videos. And I've said the same about Billy for YEARS. The specificity of its settings and how the game mechanics are filtered through it is just a joy. I cannot believe we've still not had a proper sandbox set in a suburban neighborhood where you play as a teen doing teen shit. It's a similar idea to school setting. BTW the part about how the weapons are changed to suit the more juvenile setting made me think of the Kids Next Door cartoon.

A game that I dream of is a combination between this game and a survival horror called Obscure. It would be like a bully but more simple on some mechanics and missions. Toward a week, you go revealing a mystery about students disappearing from the school. That would follow to introduce monsters in the night. You would have real guns and maybe homemade weapons, but you would use them only on monsters at night. Someone opinion?

For some reason I prefer games with small changing world. Having the huge worlds where everything feels same just doesn't cut the attachment to your "hometown", especially if it has unique atmosphere. Many JRPGs achieve it, unfortunately AAA games don't follow the suit. Ps.: If you want to try another open world game that does something unique, try Gravity Rush. Second game is not so great but I fell in love with the first game.

You can’t just boil games down into your 4 categories. although the gaming market today is oversaturated to a high degree, which I believe has a lot to do with how hard it is to find unique games bc there’s 25x the amount of games that come out at a rapid pace, especially indie games, then even 8 years ago. But, at the same time there are more unique games out there today then there ever was before, you just have to look for them. Seems to me you’re sort of pigeon holed to games of specific genres that you like in particular, so yes maybe the sandbox genre might have tons of samey games but there’s plenty of unique ones that shine way past games u are pointing out like RDR2. With the budget Rockstar has and the already great IP of RDR they better have made a good game, there was no excuse not to, and yet besides it’s great story, epic cinematics and scale etc. a lot of RDR2 is extremely repetitive such as the incredibly annoying filler content like discovering 50 dinosaur bones around the map and a bunch of side quests exactly like that lol, and the actual combat which is so basic for a game of it’s stature… You need to try some different games besides Rockstar and Zelda lol, like Ghost of Tsushima for instance is a great example of taking the sandbox formula and really making it very unique in almost every way, to me making it one of the best open world games in the last 10 years, better than RDR2 in many ways and yet most ppl don’t realize this… In terms of other genres, seems as though you never played many puzzle games or survival horror, and yes many are being remade these days as we look to be heading to a big resurgence of the survival horror genre, but many of these remakes like Resident Evil 2 and 3 (RE1 being my favorite game ever created) didn’t just remake the game copy/paste, they rebuilt them for modern times and RE2 remake is a modern classic bc of it… There’s plenty of other examples of high quality unique games and unique genres out there, especially on PC, you just need to look for them and maybe try out some different genres of games that u didn’t or don’t particularly like, maybe you’ll enjoy some of them now.
