I recently bought the 85mm f1.4 from Meike and this is a really good lens. The image quality is almost perfect. It still feels a bit plastici, but for a 3rd of Sigmas price that’s a no-brainer. With the last firmware it even supports linear focusing mode 👍

“Autofocus” sells this a bit short when really this lens is focus by wire, meaning I can focus it remotely on my gimbal. Very cool.

The point about weather sealing is crucial imho. Lenses are something that you're going to have "forever", so i'd rather save up and wait longer to get a weather sealed lens. If your body isn't weather sealed tho, then that's an awesome alternative! They seem to also have a PRO version of this lens with different build (also for l-mount), I wonder how that one compares. (340$ on Meike's website). Thanks for your honest opinion as always Dustin! :)

Christopher Frost did a review of the Nikon version on a Z7 and it held up decent, but not great at 1.4 and had some AF issues. The good news is that's a 45mp sensor, so it should be sharper on a 24mp Lumix body. If you don't have a desire for a higher MP cam (S1R or whatever its successor is), it's probably good shout.

So anybody can make L mount lenses, but when you are apart of the L mount alliance they all use the same protocols essentially meaning the lenses communicate with the cameras the same. This is why I can update the firmware on my Samyang lens directly on my LUMIX without a dock. Whereas on the MEIKE I have to connect it via a cable to my computer. It's also why he AF might be slower on 3rd party compared to any lenses apart of the alliance. Viltrox is currently in discussions to join!

Sounds like a very honest review. Lack of weather sealing is a killer these days, unless you want to do inside work. I guess I am spoiled. Glad there are cheap L-mount alternative with AF now. Thanks.

If you already have the LUMIX 85mm I'd say no but if you don't have budget for it and don't have an 85mm in your lineup definitely worth considering

@DustinArmstrongPro I found my mistake I did put the wrong firmware the 1.4 85 mm now working but anyway even before updating in this very Strange chinease web site which was really slow loading (I am bases in Switzerland) but IT works now...by the way about lens I have the Lumix 70-300 and got a strange rateling when using the Zoom ring and zooming in...still under warenty but did you got ever rateling with Lumix zoom native lenses ?

Most people would choose this kind of lens for portraits and then shoot wide open of close to it. It would have been useful to pop a few headshots in there to investigate what that would be like. This review was pretty lazy and it shows. Sorry. Hope the feedback helps.
