Probably promoting and using class consciousness is the best attack there could ever be on MAGA. A non-attack, don't mention red or blue, Trump vs whomever, the two-party system, etc. Remind people who their own people actually are, and who they are not. The corporations on welfare, the strategic bankruptcies and bailouts, who it actually is that stuff helps and who it hurts - perhaps the scales will fall from their eyes if people realize they have more in common with the homeless population than they could ever wish to have in common with a billionaire.

I am a federal employee. I hesitate to give any other details about my agency, because in addition to all of the other chaos, we have been advised to keep our social media presence ‘neutral’ or nonexistent. You CANNOT believe the absolute chaos we are now dealing with daily. And I’m not just speaking in terms of our job security, but also the exclusion of specific groups. We are literally now having calls on a daily basis to interpret how the exe orders will be implemented. Today we were informed that they are awaiting guidance on whether our agency is ‘allowed’ to have BHM programs. Most of this will likely not impact my specific position, but it is still imposing an eery air of uncertainty, panic, grief, anger, sadness and anxiety throughout. For starters, she didn't have a whole Project 2025 behind her. She didn't have open plans for dismantling the federal government. She didn't have an assortment of downright lunatics lined up to occupy the most important positions in the country. What really sucks is that it's so complicated to vote in the US, and so many people are disenfranchised. I cannot overstate how important participating in LOCAL politics matters in the US. There is so much you can change at the local much faster than the federal: - Housing & rent - Minimum wages - School funding & education. - Policing (funding and policy) - Judges and Sheriffs (underrated) - Addressing the unhoused/homeless etc - District Attorney - Environmental - Healthcare Changes locally, bubble up to the federal. This is by design, so use it. Do not wait for your perfect presidential candidate. The far right have leveraged this for years. The left and progressives need to catch up and take the levers of power back. These are far easier to win than the presidential, and longer lasting.

I liken it to a person's job resumé. You usually get better jobs the more you've worked and proven yourself at prior jobs. Politicians are (generally) elected to higher offices after proving themselves at lower ones. We ARE the hiring manager, we have the power to decide if we like a candidate for a particular job or not. Now, the scary part that I've seen is when positions run uncontested. And this is also why getting interested in local politics is important, because then you start to notice those gaps. People might want things to change but if no one steps up to contend the person in office, nothing will change.

@@localgoodscompanyI would say part of that is just new technologies and business models emerging that are crushing the old models. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with being rich. I'm part of the problem is is the way our system is set up since the '80s to where rich people and corporations have no boundaries because they were removed and if you don't push the boundaries then some other corporation or capital manager will buy influence of your competitors and push the boundaries hurting you. People think the economy is just some amorphous thing. Not realizing that the government has the ability to define the rules. That would help check some of the worst behavior. Reagan removed regulation, Milton Friedman promoted monetarism and transformed company responsibility to generating profits. Companies prove to be very good at generating profits, starting to buy up competition, haven't we watched various sectors begin to consolidate with the victors at the helm. You began to see more jobs get offshored, entire industries shift labor models to high dependence on undocumented immigrants through intermediaries which assume the liability. I remember back in the '90s watching some of these people that would manage the undocumented workers which often were legal immigrants exploit those workers further enhancing profits in the race to the bottom. Increasingly they got hostile towards labor and we watched the middle class fall behind and increasingly begin to take on more and more debt to maintain the lifestyle. Now the country Increasingly feels hostile towards consumers. At this point the American populace is just any other resource waiting to be extracted. There are a lot more toys and gadgets for the middle class to be more tolerant, but at the same time they're losing security and autonomy. Data acquisition and scraping seems to be almost as much as what the market will tolerate rather than what it will support. If you have an influx of higher paid workers then it seems like these companies working off I think that they're entitled to a percentage and because they shared the database, the private landlords can elevate an area in sync and as a renter you have little recourse. There was that program by Amazon that would begin to bump prices to test brick and mortar's monitoring and see how their system would match and find the thresholds which would effectively raise the prices that we see in brick and mortar. The amount of data and connectivity that strangely we were so optimistic about is also showing itself to be unsurprisingly behaving the way that the legacy corporations did. I think there is an issue with the middle class with each passing generation not realizing how much they're getting slow boiled because they just don't have a previous point of reference. It's kind of like how a lot of us took out student loans for college and because we were all doing it, we thought we were doing the right thing because there's no way the adults would allow us to take out a loan without making sure that we had an objective that would make the loan the least risky. We've watched tires go from $250 a set till now. I'm seeing people rolling around on $1,300 worth of tires. $15 oil changes have transformed into $100 oil changes. I mean some of it is progress and safety. Tail lights have gone from maybe 75 bucks to now hundreds of dollars if not a thousand. I see more of the middle class utilizing cleaning services when all those services have increased along with landscaping. It's fine if you have the disposable income, but sometimes it just seems so normalized and people partake these things because the people they know partake in them. Watching middle class people doordash a Starbucks and are "struggling" is absolutely stupid.

Spending my dollars as much as possible at individually owned business. Thrifting. Growing much of my own food. I can’t do it perfectly, this is the system we live in, but collectively WE could do a lot. We could choose to make some sacrifices now, or we WILL have more extreme circumstances to deal with in the, not that distant, future. The only way to change a system ruled by the rich, is to not participate by supporting them willingly with or hard earned dollars. I’m opting out,

Some European politicians has warned that Europe shouldn't let itself be infected by toxic online American political discourse, and actually concentrate in the biggest source of inequality and injustice, economic inequality. And let's not pretend European are perfect, their soft foreign policy, specially towards Russia and China, has been a total disaster. They empowered their enemies and competitors. We need to move beyond this stupid Left/Right algorithm-driven echo chamber false binary anyway. While, yes, MAGA and its Euro counterparts ARE fascists and MUST be 100% opposed full stop, we need to stop thinking of Left/Right, Red/Blue as a binary but as a SPECTRUM. And that spectrum looks different in different states...simply shouting for the Leftiest of Left progressives (even if some would like that) WILL NOT win elections, that's just not how some states are demographically or culturally. I'm sorry, to win a coalition, we need BOTH Centre-Left and Progressive Dems. You can say, like Chelsea, that you want more Progressives and a more Progressive voice (that itself is, again, a spectrum, there are certain things I as a lifelong Dem like about Progressives and certain things I cannot stand) BUT the fact remains that, unless you're just gonna cause 20-30 million new Progressives to pop up out of the ground like carrots to beat BOTH the Dems and MAGA GOP, mathematically in different states we will need BOTH. Coalition, not conflict, between the two halves of the party. And that itself means moving past fighting over who is Leftier Than Thou...the ONLY group that benefits from that kind of infighting is, ya know, Trump/MAGA fascists.

As a poor 29-yr-old who’s watched your videos for years for ethical commentary on economics and finances, you’re spot on about building community connections being a top priority for the poor. I’ve had several years where I would have gotten evicted, gone hungry, etc if not for my community not only raising funds for me, but also letting me stay with them, bringing me meals, and even job opportunities that were created for me. I’m part of multiple organizing communities and folks know who I am and that I’ve got big ideas, I’m compassionate, and I stand up for more marginalized members ferociously, and that has earned me material support that I couldn’t do without. Something I would add to that that has been an important part of my survival and will be especially important if federal programs are cut is to find community organizations that provide similar services from private philanthropy. For example, two major grocers donate $125 gift cards to multiple organizations in my city, and I have a social worker with one of those organizations that’s catered to the LGBTQ+ community. This organization prioritizes private philanthropic support and programs, so my social worker lines me up with a grocery gift card, helps me find local churches that provide rent aid, etc. I know these organizations will be hit by cuts in federal spending, but there remains a strong philanthropic donor base for services for the poor, and knowing which organizations are supported by them and can get you no-strings-attached food aid, rent aid, etc if your public benefits are taken away is a lifesaver.

As a European I was shocked, what’s happening in my country (Austria) but honestly we are small… have nothing to say in a global context. But the elections in the US might initiate a global shift, that partially already started. Democracy is dying and we got to fight for it. I really had to cry, when I read the comments. It’s heartbreaking that a government chooses its own wealth and interests over the people they’re meant to care for and keep taking from the poor and the middle class and take away even basic human rights especially for women.

Regarding LA wildfires: Fossil fuel companies have convinced the LA mayor to loosen construction laws pertaining to reducing gas hookups for new construction, because rebuilding with gas appliances will be "cheaper" than rebuilding the DESTROYED houses completely electric. Fossil fuel companies are literally gazillionaires and they can afford to lower their prices to just below the electric/renewable energy appliances on buildings. They see this as an opportunity. They literally don't care about anyone. The justification that the Mayor is using to loosen these restrictions on gas hookups for new builds? "they've gotten more efficient!" Fact check: How much more efficient? 1-2%. These gas appliances have gotten 1-2% more efficient. We need to reduce our emissions down to ZERO, not reduce by 2%.

As always and I'm not the first to say, scrolling and posting isn't action. Action is action (and there's a lot of resources to step into and get going on and none of it requires a big march). It's a difficult time not to overweight "intake," but for ourselves and our broader work, it's necessary. Yes stay informed, no don't let it crush you or steal all your energy. It's as important to be aware of what's going on and willing to act as it is to share laughter and food and empowerment through community. So very much thank you for taking your own over-intake anxieties and turning that into knowledge shared, and for being outspoken on your platform -- not always the easiest in darkening times like these.
