Foreigners loose to Alter Egos because you can't break a mind that's already split or fragmented. Alter Egos loose to Pretenders because you can easily include false information in the broken discourse of their multiple personalities. Pretenders loose to Foreigners because you can't lie to someone that reads and breaks minds. That's how I think about it.

Berserkers succomb to their madness, Foreginers embrace that madness, which is why I see them being stronger than Berserkers Then we have the hole Triangle between Alter Egos, Foreginers and Pretenders, the thing they have in common is that they "involve more than one person" to put in some way Alter Egos are composed of several Spirits Foreginers are Lovecraftian beings influencing over an Heroic Spirit, then that are losing their sanity the more they rely on their Lovecraftian Power and Pretenders are... well, someone being a completly different Heroic Spirit from who they claim to be I don't know extactly how each one fills on being stronger than the other tho, in the end it was just to make Alter Egos not a pain in the ass to fight, as their supposed "weakness" was just the Knight Classes having resistance, but not effectiveness from Knight Classes to Alter Egos

The confusion about what they are, and how they’re currently betrayed, comes down to two things. First would be, obviously, it’s probably pretty exhausting trying to write a story about an unknowable horror and have a servant surrounding that, The second and more likely answer, if they do too many based on Lovecraft, it takes away the impact of them, they won’t seem as important as they’re made out to be, like imagine for a moment, if we had a good number of servants like the fairy knights, sure that would be cool but it would take away what made those three special. As for the alter ego question, the way i see it, they’re super effective because there essentially foreign as well, they are a hodgepodge of gods, servants and sometimes a strong-willed person, they’re mixtures of personalities, memories, clashing concepts, by their very nature, they’re a walking contradiction, so it stands to reason that a walking contradiction wouldn’t be affected by something that’s also considered a contradiction by the human mind
@ShadowkillerT132 ай бұрын
My take on the alter ego class affinity is that most alter ego's are just that. Atler(native) versions created specifficaly for fighting specific threats. Look at Okita Alter as the best example. In that way you could think of them as living excaliburs or living weapons.
@ProjectTaker2 ай бұрын
Probably no accident all Alter Egos in story are weaponised Gods or God killers (or in Xu Fu’s case, a Immortal Slayer though it didn’t quite work)
@palladin13372 ай бұрын
My take on the Foreigner affinity is this; Because they are channeling power from beings outside of the established systems on Earth, they are able to passively influence and unbalance those same systems just through the exercising of that power. For people, this means unsettling and unbalancing your sense of self and perception of reality. That means that Pretenders, because they seem to be people who've taken on the identity of others (willing or not likely doesn't matter) in order to channel their skills, are uniquely susceptible to this interference because their 'sense of self' is already less than stable because they're playing the part of a completely different person to begin with. Meanwhile, Alter Egos are likely resistant to this for reasons that vary depending on the Servant. For the Sakura Five, it's likely because their identities as individuals is hard coded into them since they were originally just programs within the Moon Cell. Kiara was someone who was capable of not only surviving possession from a Demon God Pillar but was able to turn it around and take its power for herself before killing it while she was possessed, which implies a rather strong ability to maintain herself even under those conditions. Sitonai is an amalgamation of several Norse deities inhabiting Illya as a vessel, and those beings appear to be at least partially conscious within her so anything trying to unbalance her mind is going to be squaring off with several things at once. Okita Alter is a Counter Guardian, so she's likely operating with some level of protection from the Counter Force in general. Maybe this isn't perfect, or even the logic the writers are operating under, but that's at least how I've tried to justify their relation to one another.

@gojiron2 ай бұрын
My explanation of how Foreigner affinities work: The Foreigner always choose minds that are weak or easy to manipulate but have great impact on humanity, for example Van Gogh being one of the most famous artists but at the same time being very vulnerable mentally, this with the Alter Ego could not happen as these are formed from the minds of multiple entities being perfect fusions outside of human comprehension and the understanding of the Outer Gods, so an Alter Ego has greater mental resistance because of this. And with the Pretenders the thing is the opposite, they are quite simple entities but they try to deceive everyone around them making them believe that they are something more than simple impostors, the Pretenders can deceive and attack the Alter Ego by knowing their spiritual origins as seen in LB6, instead they are weak towards the Foreigners because they are still minds of human origin.
@AnonYmous-oe7qb2 ай бұрын
Honestly, the thing that makes Foreigners the most unique and useful in my opinion is their defensive/offensive advantage over Berserkers. They are the only class that has that. It's handy because Zerkers are probably the most common enemy type in FGO. What do you think it is about Outer God's that makes Madness Enhancement not just negatable, but actually detrimental? That seems like an obvious answer, except in the Cthulhu mythos being already insane is likely second best to being illiterate- you would think they would be strong versus rational (Holmes) or author (Hans) types.
@IchigoShinagami2 ай бұрын
This is written half from my memory of someone theorizing why Foreigners are effective against Berserkers, and half of my own interpretation of things. Foreigners are effective against Berserkers specifically because Madness is their domain, but while Berserkers gain power from very understandable types of Madness, like Rage/bloodlust, or a single-minded drive to do something (that's how I interpret Nightingale), Foreigners are the much deeper kind Madness, the one you get when you see or experience things that shouldn't ever happen, that shouldn't exist in this World (so Eldritch Horror, basically). So a Berserker attacking a Foreigner is stepping into someone who beats them at their own game, it's like throwing a bucket of water into the Ocean.

Sefar was a special case cause of the magic immunity it had so a physical threat is required to deal with it, that's why in one timeline the olympian gods who merged their mechs could defeat it and excalibur that generates pure heat to attack could defeat Sefar.

theory: since one of the olgas apparently says that the pretender class was created inside chaldeas, which was hypothetically raided and wiped by the foreign god, it could be that pretenders are weak to foreigners because the foreign god, who is from outside the planet, was the one who created them, giving some control over them and as for foreigners having advantage over berserkers, i've always interpreted it as the representation of how otherworldly and incomprehensible they are, they break a fundamental rule of the class affinity that berserkers are both strong and weak to almost every class

One of the details I like about Koyan Dark's final ascension is that during her NP you can see extra eyes open on her tails --- the kind of thing you would expect beings of a Lovecraftian flavor to have. I think she's an interesting inversion on what Foreigners usually are. If normally they're incomprehensible beings from space reaching into our world, Koyanskaya is trying to reach out and ascend to a similar level. And her chosen form, a terrestrial animal instead of the usual aquatic-inspired forms we usually see, reflects her different origins, being born here on Earth.

I’ve always gotten the idea that for Voyager’s reason for being a Foreigner isn’t that he’s from outside of Earth but rather he was sent out to watch those who aren’t more closely. And over time as he’s gotten farther away he’s become foreign to Earth. Still, his job is to continue to watch and monitor those of the Foreigner class and relay the information back to Earth should something catastrophic be approaching. I’d love an alter version of him where having been away for so long he becomes corrupted by one of these foreign entities and takes on the look of Foreigner servants that allow outer gods to reside in them. After all, when one stares into the abyss the abyss shall stare back.

I honestly love the concept of the Foreigner class. The idea of Cthulhu mythos being in FGO is a cool concept, especially with many of the servants having different Outer Gods. It’s cool that there are two types of Foreigners: those with Outer Gods and those without. But it makes sense why they’re in the class. The definition of the word Foreigner is someone or thing coming from somewhere else. With servants like Oei, Molay, and Abigail, they house beings outside our comprehension from another planet of existence. Then you have Mysterious Heroine XX(also Alter), they’re from the Servantverse, a place different from our own. Even Voyager makes sense since as a space probe, he would be a foreigner to other solar systems and galaxies. It’s the reason why whenever I think of my SI OC being a servant, the class I see him as the most is Foreigner or Grand Foreigner because he constantly travels worlds as a Drifter. So above being a swordsman, a gunslinger, spearman, or a man or gave in to madness, he’s a foreigner to all the worlds he’s traveled to.

The Foreigners are just that. Foreigners. They are beings that originated from outside of Earth. That means SOME are Eldritch in nature, but not all. After all, within the wider Nasuverse, the rules of the universe are based upon the rules of Earth itself. A foreigner is a being that doesn't follow these rules as they have arrived from somewhere else with their own set of rules. As a fun side note, Voyager is techincally a foreigner in that he is foreign to the wider universe, and like the other foreigners, he is implementing the rules of his origin on where he goes (ie. He is essentially a God of humanity's own making.)

Ar end of the day, Foreigner class servants are still figures of human history, myth, or fiction. I feel like it is not impossible to summon them but that also has its ramifications. If the summoning system was a gacha, then having Foreigners in the mix means that there is always a chance that a Master ends up summoning a servant who turns out to have a Lovecraftian pact. At the same time, they may not even know that it is possible to begin with, making the situation even worse.
@ProjectTaker2 ай бұрын
Though it makes up the majority, Foreigner ≠ Eldritch gods. They are, as their name implies, entities foreign to the planet Earth. Voyager and Koyanskaya of Darkness are more “normal” examples by virtue of literally originating from outer space. The various Mysterious Heroines are from another universe. Aoko’s really complicated to explain but it’s due to Fifth Magic being recognised like a foreign entity of the planet (The Counter Force itself even directly intervenes to suppress her whenever she casts Fifth Magic). Also, the Cthulhu Mythos has been canon in the Nasuverse since Fate/Zero. Gilles De Rais grimoire, Prelati’s Spellbook, is the R’lyeh Text. He even chants “Ph'nglui mglw'nafh wgah'nagl fhtagn” when summoning the giant monster at the bridge.

I believe that the Advantage Alter Egos have over Foreigners is multi-faceted. For one, as many-made-one, Alter Egos are conceptually opposed to Foreigners whose patrons as One-who-are-many as practically all Outer Gods and Great Old Ones have many manifestations. Furthermore, the different essences mixed into the Alter Ego makes it difficult to corrupt them by Foreign influence. More pertinently, Alter Egos originated within the Moon Cell. Thus while their components are of Earth, their birthplace is somewhere beyond it. Luna has long sheltered Earth from meteor strikes and is the nearest celestial body to Terra. In other words, Alter Egos represent a Foreign but allied power to the deities of Earth and therefore have power over beings from even further into the cosmos.

Apologies in advance about to go theory on ya. So the skin color tone to purple I'm pretty sure is a reference to The Colour Out of Space. Also I'm going to go into a theory related to all the more recent foreigners and why I think they are more than they appear to be. Theory time do not continue without having read Traum. Sherlock Holmes is the reason we've been able to identify foreigners in the game and once he's gone we no longer have that ability to see the truth behind them. We know from his explanations how to categorize them but without Sherlock we can't actually see who they really are. First: Look at Sherlock Holmes third ascension both art and in game model. Second: Look at the Foreigner Card. Third: Look back at Holmes Fourth: It's the same picture. After the events of Traum Sherlock leaves Chaldea. He was who helped us first recognize the foreigner class and I do not believe we had the class until Sherlock did something to the Chaldean Summon System. His interlude, intro story, and anytime he appears is always sus and then we have Moriarty who has been against him most of the game predicting that the was going to be revealed to be a foreigner so he created Mecha Eli's to fight him off when he eventually changed since Alter-Egos are strong against foreigners. It's not a coincidence that the Salem epic of remnant happened shortly after Sherlock did something. He either opened the door to let them in or he did something to help Chaldea recognize them for what they are. The reason Sherlock can recognize the foreigner class is because he is one. Specifically he is the foreigner Daoloth. If you look up Daoloth you can see a very real similarity to Sherlock's noble phantasm and the depiction of this entity falls in line with what Sherlock represents. Daoloth's priests are said to be able to see the past and the future and even how objects extend into and travel between different dimensions. Daoloth is also capable of allowing others to view things as they really are, not as our veiled senses perceive them. Daoloth will play a role in the end of days when he pulls back the veil and reveals the true dimensions of reality. So my theory is that there is something more to all of the Foreigners who have joined since Sherlock's disappearance and we can't actually tell what they are due to the absence of Daoloth. This means that we have a few foreigners in the game hiding in plain sight and at least one that isn't. Subterfuge is something foreigner servants like to do as we've seen with Imaginary Scramble. I think this is a more advanced adaptation of this plan. Imaginary Scramble was likely a test run. In reference to the non-outer god servants from when Sherlock was still with us I think we have a pretty good reason for why Daoloth believes them to be foreigners; Voyager for example is an actual foreigner to the Outer Gods as he is encroaching more and more on their territory by the day. It makes sense that Voyager would be classified as a foreigner by an actual foreigner. Mysterious Heroine XX on the other hand is literally an enemy of Outer Gods and also has with her the weapon of Ado Edem from Notes which was used to fight off Types. I believe Foreigners can be classified as two categories. Inner Gods & Outer Gods. Inner Gods are entities originating from within the solar system of Earth while Outer Gods are entities from outside of it.3 I think the Alter Ego theory is also spot on. They can't be corrupted due to either being programs or having higher mental protections due to having three entities inside a single being. Moriarty was creating a bunch of mecha eli's specifically for this reason. Lovecraft mythos the heroes often go mad so having protection against this is probably why Alter-Egos are more effective against foreigners. I think it might also be why Beserskers are a class foreigners are strong against because their insanity effects drive berserkers even more mad. The only thing I'm not currently sure on is why foreigners are strong against pretenders but that's something we will probably have a better idea on as time continues. Anyway this is just a theory. I have a few ideas who some of the hiding foreigners might be as well as who the third aspect of Sherlock might be but those theories need to be fleshed out a bit more.

the answer is really the most boring one. the class affinity rock-paper-scissors system is just there for an extra gameplay mechanic and has no logical basis sword has no advantage over a polearm, and a polearm has no advantage over a bow likewise how would an assassin have advantage over the hardest to catch target, and how does rider advantage over caster would work? it's just a rudimentary mechanic to "deepen" the gameplay so just because one servant is strong you still need like ten others of different classes for full coverage of situations Avenger was added to counter Ruler's really broken all resist moon cancer was added to counter avenger's lack of weakness and their weakness to rulers closes the triangle foreigner was added to counter the berserker omni-advantage alter ego was added to counter foreigner's all neutral resistance pretender was added to counter alter ego's lack of weakness, and closing another triangle
