With how much Tumblr girls were actually obsessed with him, I can understand and appreciate the distance from fans. I hate the idea of celebrity worship and parasocial relationships, and the crowd surrounding sad boy pop punk pretty much survived off parasocial relationships people felt they could form due to the raw emotion of the genre. Good on him for keeping that distance instead of feeding into the toxocity of said parasocial relationships.

My band got to play a festival with TSSF last summer and i went backstage before their set to try and say hi. Parker was happy to meet and even snap a photo together with the band. He even suggested I join them for a beer after the set (but I didn't want to push my luck). I never thought I'd get the chance to meet my heroes as a "co-artist", I'm thankful that they were so cool to a stranger. As a long time fan I wish them every success.

I’m just watching this video now because it popped up in my recommendations and it’s literally spot on! I feel like his drug addiction also contributed to the way he acted a lot. He got sober between the self titled and proper dose releases, and you could immediately see the change in his whole entire demeanour. I honestly have never felt prouder of a person than when he came clean about his addiction and new found sobriety. Makes me wonder just how long he was really an addict. Once I had this info and took a step back and looked at all of the controversies surrounding him, it seemed like I understood better. There’s also an interview he did with Kerrang around the PD release, he kinda lets you in on what was going down with the band and himself before they began writing. He really seems like a genuine guy aside from all the bullshit. People just seem to forget that band members and celebrities deserve happiness too. They aren’t fucking gods. They’re people like the rest of us. Treat them that way.

I love Parker. Even beyond just being the singer in my favorite band I really respect how out of the limelight he's decided to stay while being one of the biggest names in the pop punk scene. Parker is a super nice dude, just very recluse. I met him backstage at a show as my band was a support act, I knocked on their door and asked if they could sign my tssf skateboard. also his stage presence is a lot like that of Liam Gallagher from Oasis, especially from more recent gigs, the baggy shirts and rectangle Ray Bans with the high mic position and hands behind his back thing is so reminiscent of him
@JaclynJenson

@wehtegg
@wehtegg 4 жыл бұрын
Jaclyn Jenson I think TSSF takes a lot of musical inspiration from Oasis too, a lot of their drum rhythms and solos sound very similar, tale TSSFs song the glass and Oasis’s song supersonic, they might sound the exact same but they share a similar ride and style
@_NPJ
@_NPJ 3 жыл бұрын
Can we talk about how Parker is a trend setter? He started the vocal style of shouting and rhyming simple melodies a lot and TSSF under soil and dirt birthed soooo many bands that had decent success (namely neck deep… without that album you don’t get neck deep). When TSSF went a bit more soft then all the other bands followed suit.

somehow stumbled here in 2023, and I cant help but wonder in reference to "Daughters" how anyone could say an artist is "wrong". Plenty of other Pop-emo and sad-boi pop punk bands have similar lyrics. Parker seems like one of the most genuine guys. Dude gave me a shirt bc I mentioned his show seemed low-energy. He admitted he wasn't feeling well but did not want to cancel so he performed anyway. Artist are allowed feelings and emotions too, even if the words aren't ones people like.

I've met him a few times and he's a really good guy. They played Ali in London after I asked him, they really didn't have to do that. I think the combination of the obsessive types, entitled fans lingering on stage and the overblown criticism for lyrics on made him want to stand back. I'm glad he seems to have found his love for music again.

"Taking the pressure off".. hence, No Pressure! What I enjoy about tssf is that they are talented but regular & genuine people who just want to share true emotion via music. They're a league of their own and no strict label really fits them as a band. just fun & unique with upbeat / honest music. They don't try to do what others are currently, while still embodying inspiration from classic acts

As shitty as 2020 has been generally speaking, it's been such a good year for music for me. So many of my favorite bands/people have released amazing material this year. The future is definitely bright for punk.

Totally agree with you, we can’t blame Parker because we don’t know even half of the mental illness he’s going through. I know people with severe anxiety that would never be able to do meet and greets. But agree it makes you want to know more about him the less you get lol. Tssf are one of the few bands I enjoy every single song and can play their first releases all the way through their new ones and love it.

I just found No Pressure last night and I completely agree that it's his best work since "What You Don't See". That style of his work is my favorite: the fast, biting lyrics on the backdrop of a super catchy song. I noticed how TSSF got progressively slower and more ballad-like over the years and didn't care for it, but they've remained my favorite pop-punk band since NFG, still. I was flipping out last night when I listened to No Pressure. I hope they make a full-length!

It's kinda shitty how everyone who wasn't at that Houston TX show tried saying he was kicking and pushing women... Without mentioning the fact that a girl rushed Parker on stage, grabbing Parker by the face, trying to kiss (SEXUALLY ASSUALT!!!) him. The other guy (yes this happened with a girl in a different state), hopped on stage, at a separate show, and tried to take a selfie on stage... I don't think anyone here needs an explanation on why both of these things are wrong. After the show where he shoved the girl, he said "I hope this provides a little insight onto why I am so stand-offish sometimes" .... A little perspective on double standards, and double-sided stories. Bottom line, IT'S THEIR STAGE. THEY WORKED TO GET THERE, they did their time. Anyone hopping onstage for a kiss, or a selfie, hasn't. And it's bullshit.

Curious what your beef is with the song daughters, he calls a chick out for being an often drunk floosy. Didn’t name drop or say “fuck you” So whats your deal?

The reason "the drop kick" incident rubbed me the wrong way is that you just should never kick someone in the spine. Thankfully it didn't paralyse her or anything serious like that, but every small little incident like that brings you closer to dealing with constant back pain as you grow older.

Another g8 vid m8! No Pressure is "the old story so far" and my goodness it is crazy good! TSSF seem to be going a certain direction contra to their prior discography, and Parker desires to make the sound we all fell in love with. No Pressure is the EP I didn't know I needed. For me it is the best EP of the year!

I met Parker in a pretty strange way (Atleast for him) I passed by the merch tent during warped ‘16 and he was just standing there alone so I went up and just said hey man can I get a pic? And he seemed pretty chill about it, he even autographed my friends arm. Pretty sure he was toasted asf tho. Still a pretty rad experience.

I saw them for the second time at the rockstar fest in Houston. The venue is this huge stage with rows of seats (not the ideal venue for a band like this) especially as most people were there to see the bigger bands in the line up. during their set I was one of the only ones dancing and singing along in my seated section and Parker looked at me and gave me one of these 👊🏻 from the stage and a head nod. While I’ve never had the chance to meet him I’ll never forget that.

You know from what I’ve seen and the music I listen to, it’s interesting to see Parker emulate Liam Gallagher. I really dig the direction it’s taken them. Like, he really likes Liam(and Oasis) I can’t wait to hear what the have for us next.
